FLG is a practical joke. Do you believe aliens occupying the earth and gay people and hybrid-blooded people (which is pretty much half of Americans) are sinners and should go through a slow and painful death? Do you believe all computers were invented by aliens who went into the human scientists bodies? Please do not spread rumors you have no knowledge of.

Democracy will not make a stronger China. I hope my view is respected.
Hu Jintao wrote:
I totally agree with the writer.
This "people war" is the ultimate communist tool to crush popular dissent. Remember Tiannamen and remember the Falun Gong. It is time the Chinese intellects make their point and let the govt. realize, their time is up.
A popular Govt. should listen to its people, not imposed their will.
Otherwise our country would be just beautiful from outside but rotten deep inside.
Communist must leave and make way for democracy.

Well, do you? The american election will only result in one of the two parties. Maybe you have a little more alternative than the Chinese, but eventually the same. The government is controlled by few capitalism shareholders, who struggling for their own benefit. If Americans want to talk about human right, maybe you have to withdraw your troop in Iraq at the first place. You have a saying that "agree to disagree" so why every western is still thinking in 50s' cold-war style. Comments like communists are evil still root deep in your western point of view and I see no reason to debat. What happens here is a good translation of the word prejudgement. The only reason why I am still bothering to write a reply is simply becasue that most western people show too much hypocrispy on other country. If Chinese government is realy that corrupted as you described, there would be nothing to stop 1.3 billion people to bring it down. The Chinese amry (3 million in total) will not be able to do anything about it (for your mathematics, that is 130:1).

America was founded 300 years ago and now reaches a GDP of 13000 billions. PR China was founded 50 years ago and now reaches a GDP of 3000 billions. The annual increase of US is 2.3% and China is 8.9%. In less than 30 years, the GDP of China will overrun the US. In addition, for each year, the trading imbalance between US and China is -260 billion (US in debt). I said the Chinese government did make a economic mircle. That is enough for me as a commoner.

Huang: Your article failed to provide in-depth analysis of the ordinary Chinese' reactions to the negative views of China presented by the Western media to the public. The term patritism is more appropriate than nationalism to describe the ordinary Chinese' reactions. To say that the Chinese and Chinese Americans were manipulated by the Chinese government is far from truth. The Chinese Americans are not that naive to be manipulated by any government.

[QUOTE who="Dan"
How convenient that you forgot to mention the western media’s reporting right after March 14th. But without the biased media reporting and the false accusation, I am not so sure whether those torch events would have the same effect.[/QUOTE]
DON'T confuse the "talking heads" w/ responsible journalism.
Papers like the LA Times did give out BOTH sides of the story in Tibet - something we CAN'T say happened in the PRC.
And oh, btw, where was the coverage by the CCP controlled-media about the violent Chinese protesters in SKorea?

Mr. Huang,
You say without rights pride is empty. Now try telling that to the unemployed people living in the inner cities or the rust belt of America. Better yet I suggest you try spending a day in the other America and get to know how the other half. Maybe you'll rephrase your statement to: without economic empowerment, pride is empty. Freedom is important, but it needs to go in hand in hand with a good economy and good government otherwise it's all academic and empty talk.

Do you seriously believe that the only reason the Chinese people are showing pride for their country is because of the Olympics in Beijing? There's really more to that. When was the last time you've been to China? For your information, the country hasn't suffered any famine or social upheaval in the last 20 years. It has secured its borders from foreign aggression and hasn't been bogged down in wars. The left wing policies of Chairman Mao have been abandoned in favor of the market. It has the fastest economy in the world and now has the largest foreign exchange reserves in the world. The U.S. is in its debt. It is expected to replace the U.S. as the world's largest economy by the end of this century. It has lifted 300 million of its people out of poverty. In the last Olympics, it was second only to the U.S. in the gold medals count. It wants to take the number 1 spot away from the U.S. in this coming Olympics although I doubt that will happen. In light of all this, are you going tell us the Chinese people have no valid reasons to be proud of their country?

Sure, it will be nice if the Chinese government offers its people basic human rights. Mr. Huang would like us to believe that democracy grows on a tree, but it's not that simple. Let me put this whole thing into perspective. The People's Republic was founded in 1949. The U.S. was founded in 1776. Back in those days, the basic freedom that Mr. Huang had spoken passionately about applied only to American citizens of European descent particulary those of the male gender. Slavery was still practiced until the end of the Civil War in 1865. Even though the slavery was abolished, blacks weren't treated as equals until the civil rights movement of the 1960s. Now if it took the U.S. 200 years to achieve this level of democracy, isn't it unrealistic to expect China to achieve the same in less than half that time?

Mr. Huang, next time you write about China and its people, I suggest you brush up on its history and not based everything on your personal observation.

Good job Mr.Huang! At least some Chinese with guts and heart voice out different opinion. Freedom and democracy is the very basic and most divine human rights and can not be denied by any force. For Tibetan people, their religion quest plays an important part in their life which atheist Han may find hard to understand. But respect and willingness to understand should apply here instead of suppression of any form. Have compassion not only to Tibetan people but also to those Chinese who earn their meager living with sweat and blood and are powerless to utter their opinion from any forum.

Would a few million deaths mean anything to you when you enjoy your perfect sociopolitical system? Are Iraqis less of human being than you are?

Pul-eeze. If OUR party was tied to OUR state... Iraq would surely continue for much longer than it will. Why? Because there would be no opposition party calling for withdrawal... and no incentive for the ruling party to make a similar plan... and thus no way to arrest this train wreck.

In Tibet, people are arrested and, presumably, thrown in jail for possessing a photograph of the Dalai Lama. In the West, people can possess photos of Stalin, Hitler, Mao, or any of a multitude of documented murderers at no hazard to their personal freedom.

Also, if the Chinese government would simply allow journalists free access to the region, all of this could be put to rest. Especially if all is as the pro-government people feel it is.

Why should we or anyone trust the Chinese government? We do not even trust our own?

There is such a profound dysfunction in many of the rantings of the Chinese posters. They WANT to believe so much that they willingly accept censorship and the crudest manipulation possible. There must be a deep fear of humiliation here that the world will simply see their government and way of life for what it is.

I wonder how the Chinese government would react if thousands of American or European students were to act like bullies in the streets of Beijing or Shanghai, as Chinese students have been doing in western cities.

These so-called Chinese patriots are the worst possible ambassadors for the country. They indeed deserve the label ¨thugs¨.

I have lived in the US for decades and visited China several times. I think the Chinese government made huge progress in improving the lives of their people. In cities like Shanghai and Beijing, you see people everywhere enjoying their new-found prosperity. But since there are 1.3 billion people competing for resources, there are still some living in poverty. I think the Chinese goverment must first help those who are still impoverished and illiterate before they can truly think about political reforms. Right now China needs a stable government to continue the economic development, that is why many overseas Chinese showed their support for the Chinese government when Western media try to demonize it. Also, the news of Han Chinese being killed in Lhasa was downplayed and distorted, which makes the Chinese feel that the Western media is being unfair.

If Mr. Huang was here in San Francisco and saw the "terrorists" lying in the street in front of the bus determined to stop the torch relay at all cost, perhaps he would not be a victim of the media paid by the Tibetan lobbyists.
I'm proud to be one of the tens of thousands of supporters waving the Chinese flag peacefully standing BEHIND the police barricades hoping to see the torch relay pass by unlike the "terrorists" who would not obey the police demands to get off the street and remain behind the barricades. The protestors were ONLY interested in stopping the relay at all cost of life and limb and visibly demonstrated their SOLE intent even though they were outnumbered 100 to 1. Mayor Newsom & Chief Fong wisely resorted to plan 2 or there would have been much blood on the street of San Francisco which is what the "terrorists" wanted.
Like Mr. Huang, I too am an American by Choice and not by birth having lived in America for over 67 years.

There goes Mfinn, Hempstead, NY, again spreading stories she gets from the Tibetan paid lobbyists, that Tibetans are arrested and thrown in jail or shot for displaying a picture of Dali Lama.

The truth which I saw with mu own eyes is that all the cabs I rode in in Tibet had a picture of the Dali Lama hanging from the rear view mirror and all the houses I visited at the invitation of the "free former serfs" had pictures of the Dali Lama mounted on their walls.

Before you start mouthing and perpetuating these falsehoods of Chinese persecution of Tibetans for merely having pictures of the Dali Lama, why don't you ACT LIKE YOU'RE FROM MISSOURI, the "SHOW ME STATE". Go to Tibet and see for yourself as I did.

Or at least go to http://www.YouTube.com/watch... and http://www.YouTube.com/watch... and take it from two Whiteys both of whom were in Tibet and saw for themselves.
