Summer arts camp students create mosaics for Vallejo waterfront are...

Full story: Vallejo Times-Herald

What do you get when you cross children, art and a poorly appointed stretch of Vallejo waterfront? Hopefully a spruced-up area and a bunch of children with a sense of pride in their work and their city, said Adrienne Waterman, Vallejo school board member and head of the Vallejo Community Arts Foundation's Summer Arts Camp project.

Art? Great! Why not teach these youngsters how to maintain a family budget! Balance a check book. Proper use of credit cards. The need for various insurances. Care of major purchases such as an automobile or house. How to successfully raise your children not to be Liberals or if you should really have a child. You get my drift!

If worse comes to worse, how to file claims for unemployment, under the Obama(D) Administration or social service benefits! Later, Obama(D) Care. Maybe even how to qualify for advanced educational funding or grants!

This is a wonderful thing. I think I will come through town to see their work! I also like Tucker tire for oil changes. Just hope someone doesn't put a cap in my dome for leaving town! No disrespect dawgs.

Give it a rest; they're kids! Let them be creative and have fun.

The "artwork" mosaics look like crapola. More crapola for the waterfront. The planters looked better without all the mirrors and crap all over them.

All of the 5 comments about this project are from people who live outside Vallejo. I think it is easy to criticize the efforts of others who are trying to bring change and a sense of pride. Art is important all forms of it, fosters creative, intellect, motivates and stimulates.
What have you done for your community?

I think if you look into it a little bit, you'll find most of the campers are on scholarships, meaning they pay nothing. Hardly over-charging. And what do you mean she stole the mural project? Who did she steal in from?

I hope the kids dont read these chity comments. Vallejo should be open ground to any local artists willing to give thier time and resources. EVERY filthy wall downtown should have a beautifull mural. The ONLY thing thats going to make this city liveable is its citizens. I hope the materials used on these mosaics is of a quality that will hold up. When the kids see thier works of art years down the road they will be able to say "I did that!" They will remember the fun time they had helping to make somthing better. More of these projects in the future please!! Have an artist chalk out some murals downtown. Invite the people to come paint in the colors, it gets folks together for a common purpose, it will stenghthen the neiborhoods, and its fun. Local paint stores have pallets of remnant paint. In all kinds of colors. These kinds of projects dont have to cost much at all. That is Unless the city council get there hands on it.

I don't know whether to criticize your comment, or give you a round of applause. LOL. Unfortunately, I dont think ANY of these subjects would be of interest to a young child.:)

Waterman stole credit for the Florida Street mural from Derek O'Keefe, the artist who created and painted it.

has there been any murals lately? Why? Why did she have to leave Vallejo's art foundation? did she pay back the grant money to code enforcement b/c she didn't pay the muralist for his work?

Waterman stole credit for the Florida Street mural from Derek O'Keefe, the artist who created and painted it.
He reported her lack of payment to fighting back partnership and Code Enforcement but they said they had nothing to do with murals and the grant money. But they sure signed the murals.

the people who painted the waterfront murals are on the side of the wall. If you google one artist name; you will see he designed Carlos Santana's CD covers and creates art for clients such as Actoer Kelsey Grammer. Harold Beaulau among Vallejo locals also painted those murals. O'Keefe paid for the murals out of his pockete.

Daily Horoscope for February 13

Leo

Something will surface that either allows you to go forward or blocks your progress. Whichever way things go, take action to bring about change. If there's a blockage, then investigate the true cause as to why things are stuck. If things are unfolding well then make sure you act with clarity and determination. You can build something for the future now if you make a decisive move.
