My dachshund Molly has been sick for over a month, throwing up and retching. They thought kennel cough, then pnemonia. Two rounds of antibiotics, chest x-ray, heart ekg and ultrasound. Fluid in her lungs.

She was much better these last few days, not retching at all, and last night I gave her her favorite treat - Wagon Train Chicken Jerky. Today she is right back to retching as bad as before - every hour or so.

Before tossing out the treat she lives for, I googled and found this discussion. I want to add that Molly is 13, and Jake is only 4. Jake has diarhea and upset stomach most days evidenced by eating grass, though he doesn't ever vomit.

I believe that in older dogs, these treats could possibly be deadly if they are the culpret. I just can't take that chance, no matter how much she loves them.

I have two dachshunds that had very similar reactions to the treats. My dogs were only 2.5 and 3 years old at the time. My youngest had the same reaction as Jake. My oldest threw up every 45 minutes until we got him to the vet. Please report your experience to the FDA. I hope your dogs are well.

I have yorkie/pom and 7 maltese (haven't been able to sale). But I have been feeding all my dogs including white german shephard and chow mix the Wagon Train Chicken Tenders. It's the main treat that is a must to keep to get them to settle down when I get company. I'd toss a handful to the gang and off they go to gobble them down. Shortly be back for more. Some are much quicker than others so most would get an avg of 3 each. At 16.99 per bag now 18.99 per bag at Walmart I'd get 2 bags per week. $10 at Walgreens if they are not out. When my some of my dogs threw up I thought they just ate too much. The last few litter of pups I have had a total of 5 pups died. Vet said parvo. I live in the country away from other dogs and never had any problems with any of my grandpups. Looked on line to see how to buy per case and found this site. Not only am I out of money to buy the expensive treats my dogs loves so much, but I've lost 5 of my precious darlings. Could this product be linked to the deaths. Chloe' has been spayed so no more pups. But no more Chicken Tenders since I found this site. I started having to watch them till they finished the treats due to some of my dogs started choking on this product. Figured they were eating to fast. Now I not sure, but can't take the risk of losing anymore pieces of my heart. Same symptoms as parvo what I've been reading.

The other day my Mom wanted to give my dog your treats. I read the label that you are in Reno Nevada, and since I try to by only AMERICAN MADE, I was about to give the treat to my dog until I read the ingredients. It reads Chicken breast fillet, and natural flavoring. Since China seems to be getting rid of all its toxic waste through the products they export, what assurance do you give us that this is not the case with your product? Every day we hear Chinese products being recalled. Why do you put "natural flavorings", if your product doesn't contain this toxic waste? Why don't you list ALL of the ingredients? I know the government has allowed you to lump all the bad stuff under "flavoring", stuff like MSG, Polyethylene gylcol (antifreeze), BHT or any other waste. The side effects for Polyethylene glycol are nausea, abdominal cramping, gas, diarrhea, rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. I'm sure this sounds familiar to some of those who have lost their pets. I for one will not let my pets be guinea pigs for those Chinese or for our government, who lets this waste be fed to our dogs and to us. I choose not to use your product.

I recently purchased, in our neighbourhood COSTCO, a ceramic "bone container" filled with dog treats marked "made in China". They are called "Beefeaters", "Peanut Butter Biscuits for Dogs". They are made by Petrapport, N. Bergan NJ. The item number is 163111 and the Lot# is EFB3C52. I cannot find anywhere on line that can give me any other information on these treats except sales information. Has anyone come across this product? I am concerned about Melamine/gluten involvement.
Any information will be appreciated.

Hello, I have been feeding my 3 adult Shih-tzus these jerky tenders for a couple of years now and recently have given them to our pups now 6 months. All of my dogs love these treats and none of them have had a single problem. All dogs vomit every now and then,(once in a blue moon) but I saw no correlation to vommiting after the chicken treats. They each get one every morning after going outside and they really look forward to them. This site makes me nervous!!! How do we get answers to our questions about safe products in these tenders??? Thanks!

Unfortunately, determining a toxin in treats/food can be as challenging as finding a needle in a haystack. Many dogs will become very ill and even die before it's identified. Keep your beloved pets safe, stop feeding them overseas food and treats. Below is an FDA caution and an article that was posted today about melamine.

my folks are feeding their dog these treats. I see on the waggin train website their main defense is that people are feeding their dogs far too many of these, so people posting should put the size of their dog and the number their feeding per day. The serving size is really low, 1/2 to 1 treat per day for a small dog. My parents' dog is small medium and the serving size is 1 to 2 treats. The dog isn't sick yet that I know of though she seems less active than last time I saw her a year ago but I attributed that to her being a year older. I'm sure she's getting at least five of these treats a day. Some treat!
Funny thing, my dad was trying to find a cheaper price on these treats and the only reason I searched for them online was to help him find a better price. Glad I did, so I could see this!

I have been feeding the Waggin Train chicken tender jerkies to my two Shitzu's every morning.
They beg for them and they are both in excellent health. They both have had recent blood work with normal results. I fell across this info as walgreens is low on stock and I thought I'd try to buy online. They are fussy eaters and this is one of the few treats they like.
I stopped buying at Costco because I saw that the product had become dried out.I advised the management at Costco and check periodically, but it is still dried out. The product at Walgreens is always fresh.

Now, of course I am concerned about feeding the dogs the chicken and will check with my vet about the product to see if he has seen any problems.

Waggin' Train Jerky Treats from ADI PET,INC.- Reno, NV, made in China

Have been giving my English Springer Spaniel Waggin’ Train for 3-4 years, one per day until recently, she started getting 2-3 per day due to increased activity. She stopped eating her dog food, urinating every 5 mins, drinking every 2-3 mins, I mean a cup at a time. Vet tested her and she had high liver enzymes and thyroid condition. Did liver biopsy(surgically) and found very fatty liver and discoloration of same. It almost tore apart in his hand. She was radiating heat like crazy through her spine area, yet her temp was normal. Would not lie on her bed anymore, just on the cool tile or out on the breezeway cement. This was a comfort dog who just loved the couch or beds, any bed at all. After being out over $1,500 within the past 5 weeks, I will never again give my animals anything from China. This product used to say ‘Rancho, CA’. I suppose that the taxes were too high so they moved and now the packaging states, ADI-Pet, INC. Reno-NV. I suppose and know that the taxes are cheaper in NV, so…I guess they went one step farther and began to outsource/import and now they have a bunch of ’shit’ for a product, as it now shows it is made in China. When were first began buying these about 5 years ago, there was nothing which showed they were made in China. I urge everyone to never buy this product at any time. Sam’s Club supplied ours, but I’m sure they are sold at a lot of places. I do not care what they say, I know it is the chicken treats that caused her ‘near death’. She is on the road to recovery, thanks in large part to money well spent, a good vet, feeding by hand, force feeding with a syringe, patience, pills by the dozens, sitting up at night with her and cuddling and soothing her fears. China can go to HELL and so can ADI-PET, INC. Nothing they can say will convince me otherwise and I will go into Sam’s Club and write all over their display cases…’THESE ARE FROM CHINA, AND THEY WILL KILL YOUR DOG’!!!!!

The lot # is 97484. My vet bill was $148.00 and we are getting an ultrasound on TUesday January 13,2009.

I have been recently giving my 2 little Shihtzus chicken tenders...they don't get them every day but I have noticed that every time I give them these treats, which they just love, they get gastrintestional problems, their intestines growel and they are very restless and uncomfortable and have trouble with their bowel movements, they appear to be having trouble passing the stools and they also have vomited....tonight I thought well maybe I can soak them and make them soft...they have been soaking for an hour and have not softend up yet !!!! they are just like rocks!!!!! Soooooo I have come to the conclusion that if they can't be softend by soaking, how can they possibly digest them? I just hope they don't get intestional obstuctions!!! and no more chicken jerkys in my home. This bag will be returned to Sams and besides that I can use this $15 for something more healthy for them, like home cooked chicken breast.....

I agree with Finnigan's Mom, I too don't believe in coincidences. My healthy pup of 2 years ate Waggin Train Treats 2 days before he became sick and has lost 20% of his body weight over the last 2 weeks. He has had every diagnostic tests and antibiotics and is not getting better. He is weaking before my eyes. Everything in his diet and lifestyle has been consistent for 2 years. The sudden onset of his symptom closely mirrors his consumption of Waggin Train.
Despite what the company has posted on their website - there is a serious problem with these treats. My Lot # is 97666. There needs to be a comprehensive tracking to correlate findings, cases and all the diagnostic findings related to these incidences - this cannot be coincidence!
These products should be pulled off the shelves immediately!!!

Our dog has similar symptoms. He consumed Waggin Train jerky Tenders on Dec 15/16 - started to show demise, lethargy, diarrhea, fever on the 17th. Has been in ICU for the last 2 weeks. Vets don't know the underlying cause. I have just coorelated the date of the consumption with the onset of illness in the last day after getting no results from the exhaustive tests from the vet.

You mentioned your dog was treated with predisone. Was there anything else and how long was the treatment?

Thx in advance for your response...m

We have fed our 9yo BoxerX mostly Science Diet all of his life. We gave him Waggin Train Brand Chicken Jerky Tenders from Sam's Club for the last couple years or so as treats. Our last batch is Lot No 94600. He recently had symptoms of an arched back and pain getting up and down. Urination seemed to increase his level of discomfort. The vet gave him a course of Prednisone and it made him feel better immediately.
At first I suspected the Science Diet because it was the newest bag of food. I called Science Diet with the batch number and they said they have had no problems. Now I suspect the Treats. I used to joke about chicken treats from China, calling them "Bird Flu Treats". It's not funny anymore.

Nancy - our puppy is 2 years old -same symptoms. Ate waggin tails jerky on Dec 15/16 - was sick by the 17th and worsened over the last 2 weeks. Waggin Train jerky lot # is quite close to yours - 97666! I think the manufactures need to coalate findings and put a stop on this brand until they know for sure it is not tainted. Please connect with me at mrgs@yahoo.com if you like to share info on your ultrasound. We are taking our dog for Ultrasound on Jan 14. He is on antibiotics right now.

thx in advance for your feedback

If your goals are fairly modest in the short term, they are achievable and you're likely to get some praise for achievements along the way. If you aim too high too quickly, others might not take you seriously or think you're being uppity and you could come unstuck. It's all a question of attitude and approach. There are contradictory influences over the next ten days but there could also be good luck coming your way.
