You've got to be kidding me....A cop finally gets suspended with out pay but not for abusing his power, selling drugs, stealing evidence, etc., but for emails??? So, I guess it's okay for a cop to abuse people and his power and he'll get suspended with pay, but send an email and that's it, you're out! WTF???

For Pete's sake, let him retire in peace! 27 years! He wrote an email to a reporter?

How about that McReady guy...who "investigated" Martin Tankleff and got mixed up with Tankleff's half-sister and her ex?

Go after the real criminals!

How can an officer who rose to the rank of lieutenant, and is smart enough to become a lawyer, do something so recklesly careless? I almost think he set himself up to get caught. There's something else going on here.......

Cop suspended for informing the public. Welcome to Wrong Island.

Wow. Bet the cop with illegal apartments didn't get this treatment. Nor do other ciminal officers, usually suspended with pay...but this guy tells someone his opinion...gotta love the police.

You comment on an issue and if top brass disagree....suspension without pay. You bring illegal aliens into your illegal apartments, suspended with pay. Drive drunk, suspended with pay.

Ray had it coming, not a bad guy but not that smart either. They gave him an office and the Penske file but I guess that wasn't enough. He spent TOO much time using the computer for his own good. I;m sure he'll try to make it a first ammendment issue, but it's not. He has the right to his own opinion and to voice it, but not on the clock.

I seriously doubt he is the only cop who has sent personal e-mails. If he proclaimed Martin Tankleff guilty I doubt they would've done anything!

I wonder if James McCready was ever suspended for the false testimony he gave at the Diaz trial in 85!

I guess you don't understand how civil service promotion works! There's a ton of very stupid people that know little about life, people, management, law, or police work running around as "management" in the SCPD. It's all about taking the test and getting promoted. Sad to say the good bosses are few and far between, trapped in a culture of ladder climbers and self promoters. Egos clash now and then... and we have our winners and losers.

The difference is that this is strictly an internal matter. The Depts actions do not risk prejudicing a criminal case.

Oh great, just what we need, another retired government worker getting paid for doing nothing. Public worker pensions are a huge problem in New York, when is something going to be done about this?

As you seem to know common sense is an uncommon commodity, in any walk of life.

Idot! This a s s h o l e deserves to be busted in rank and THEN retired! Don't let him retire with the Lt. rank, He don't deserve the rank for being stupid! Here is a dope who managed to pass the tests where he is in command of the troops and also become a Liar, I mean Lawyer! He should have known better than to use a SCPD account to send email to the paper!( cheap bastard) He could have spouted all the rubbish he wanted! He just needed to do it on his own dime! I have no sympathy for his plight, And that bull s H I T about free speech pertains to your computer, not the SCPD! Fire the bastard!

No, but they must watch out for and expect the avalanch comming their way. Governmental wortkers get crushed by the politicaly connected agency they work for whose union is usually in bed with the beauracrats.
