You are right. Close the place down. The little chubsters can stay home and watch TV and play on the computer. Don't forget the to give the kids a big dose of Rittelin, so they can sit for hours doing nothing.

I too am sorry that the boy got hurt. But, as the mom whose children have worked at the park for several years, I have seen and heard of kids getting hurt mainly because they are running when they should not be or just plain not paying attention. Most of the time, parents argue with ride attendants when they are told thier child is too young or small to go on a ride. The parents of this boy have every right to be upset that their child was hurt. But, I dont see why Adventureland is at fault. Paul Gentile is a good man. His family has run this park for 40 years. I dont think his park is unsafe. Sometimes, people get hurt. Its unfortunate but thats just what happens. The park in NOT UNSAFE!!!

quote..."Woycik said the Adventureland staff was not fast enough in responding to the accident, and that the injury might have been prevented if the ride was properly supervised."

how about the mother not supervising her 6 year old son....

So she says if they had better ride supervision it may not have happened. So where was the parent of this 6 year old? It was a WALK THRU RIDE! Same people who sue the rail road for their kids falling through the gaps because they dont hold their hands. Come on parents. You need to be accountable too! It's sad to be a business offering entertainment. They are easy targets of people who make no money for a living to get a quick payoff. Maybe she didnt riiiiiiiiiip his hand out of where it was stuck it may not be mangled.

"Wow," said Peggy Burke, who sat on a ledge at Super Raider Wednesday waiting for her 9-year-old and 11-year-old granddaughters to exit. "I was just saying to my husband I have heard about accidents happening here. They should have shut it down for a few days at least and taken a look at the problem."

Hey Peggy, you knew about the accident and think the ride should have been shut down, but you let your kids go on it anyway? Was your lawyer on standby?

All of you morons who bemoan the lawsuit would probably be the first ones lining up in front of a lawyer's office if it happened to you and/or yours. Why do you think God invented insurance? People don't expect to get hurt at an AMUSEMENT PARK.

I don't think the parents should be suing for millions of dollars, but at least several thousand to cover medical costs and rehabilitation. This injury wasn't just a bump, bruise, or scrape. This kid's hand was MANGLED. Stick your hand in a mixer for a minute, then see if you agree with the people saying "oh, kids get hurt, it's no big deal. Just put a band aid on it". Who knows how well this kid will heal.
Unless there is proof of the kid being reckless while at the site of the accident, the park should be held responsible.

Oh come on, if it were your kid, you'd sue too. I would sue for enough to pay for his college education and then some.

Good luck to that family. I hope the lawsuit closes the place down.

I grew up in Farmingdale and went to Adventureland nearly every summer weekend of my pre-teen and teen years. It was a great place to hang out and have fun. There is always a risk of injury at an amusement park, but I don't think Adventureland is negligent. I think they should pay for the childs medical cost to repair his hand, but that's it.

Ah, I know the family personally as well, they are greedy snobs.

The least they could have done was to close the ride a day or two just to check and make sure there weren't any flaws or slippery spots. But they were so afraid of losing revenue that they didn't bother.

I don't actually agree with the family who retained a lawyer before the ink was dry on the hospital bill, but sometimes it takes a law suit to make these companies/amusement parks sit up and take notice.

Hopefully there isn't any long term damage - but if there is it would be the shared responsibility of the parents and the amusement park to make sure this kid is ok.

Lesson learned - teach your kids that rides can sometimes be dangerous and they have to be aware of it. No pushing, shoving or running - Parents - you need to understand that it is an amusement park not a day care center where you drop your kids off and sit in the restaurant all day.

And finally, Adventureland - get your friggin' act together!

This would not have happened if the mother and/or sister were actively supervising (participating) this VERY YOUNG CHILD on such a ride/activity.

Moving parts means danger to a child!!!!!!!!!! Advertureland should countersue the mother and sister for neglect and stupidity!!!!!!!!!

Maybe the mom shouldn't have ripped the child's hand out and could've waited the one minute for staffers to respond and do it correctly.

why did a mother let her 6 year old son a ride by himself? where was she? why was she not right behind him or better her holding his hand so he doesn't fall! When are people going to take responsibility for themselves and not just wait faor an opportunity in thier lives to sue. This is going to be the ruination of this country right here!!!
