Sorry, Pedro. Having a driver's license is a privilege, not a necessity. As is being a citizen of this country.

We're getting what we deserve. We elected a Democrat, the party of the illegal immigrant. Hillary and Chuck voted for amnesty, and to give them a share of our Social Security. Now Spitzer wants them to drive. Anyone among us who hasn't read enough stories of these illegals involved if horrible, irresponsible crashes. They’re ILLEGAL! Why don’t our politicians just get that? Just being here is wrong. They need to be rounded up and deported. When they immigrate legally, let them apply for their license then. We're done. Our country as we knew it is finished. This isn't how it was supposed to end....

BTW, a news release on this on a Friday night is a calculated move to slip this past as many people as possible. Slimy, cowardly thing to do.

NO. Wish politians fight for the rights of citizens with the same vigor as they do for illegals. My family didn't have anything handed to them. We worked and struggled and did without for many years. I have no pity for people who come here illegally and want all sorts of rights and handouts.

I understand that it SOUNDS like it'll save taxpayers money. But really - does anyone believe for a second that we're going to see a tax cut? Or is it going to be the same old BS it's always been?

Along with this they should add a measure that increases the penalties on UNlicensed/insured drivers. Just to drive the GET A LICENSE point home.

we allow 95-year olds who can't see or hear drive a car, we allow drunks with multiple arrests drive, we allow speeders and reckless drives drive, whats wrong with collecting more revenue by giving licenses to those who are driving anyway?

hey, who cares if they don't have jobs, can't speak English, don't pay taxes, can't vote, as long as they are lawfully driving a car everything is hunky-dory.

Next thing you know we will give them free housing.

The last Civil War was a waste of time. Who really won? The plantation owners lived it up, and left us with the tab for the party. We are suffering for their good time.

As far as this is concerned, I am so pissed and disappointed I feel like leaving New York.

It's not business as usual with Eliot Spitzer. In the case of the serial killer from Suffolk, I'm glad it's him. In this case, I'm not.

Are you serious? That was already done. They've been playing HUD like a violin.

To Southbond, "irresponsible crashes" as opposed to what, "responsible crashes"? The whole reason they are irresponsible crashes is not because they crash, everyone crashes, legal or not, but because they can NOT buy auto insurance to cover you, you legal person, because they don't have a driver's license. Get it?! They need the license to get insurance!
And as to "when they immigrate legally," well, again that's the whole point, isn't it? They can't immigrate legally. We won't allow it. That's that whole pesky Immigration Bill that keeps getting turned down because people should come legally - they can't, that's why the immigration bill! Ugh! Why are legal US citizens so ignorant not only about their own country's immigration laws, but about basic logic! First, response, I know, "well, my grandfather from Italy came legally." Oh yeah, did you see their green card? No, well, maybe because he was here illegally. Whole generations of "great grandfathers" came here illegally. Ever hear of WOP (a deragatory name for Italians), that means "without papers"! But back then you didn't need a social security number to get a job and none of them passed an English exam or Constitution test. They just worked. Their kids then were born here (automatic citizen, no testing and social security number). The same as these new immigrants. The difference is we now have computers that can check social security numbers very quickly so the rules have changes, not the immigrants dream or work ethic. Here's one last logic puzzle for you, why is the economy slowing down? Could it have anything to do with illegal immigrants being unable to do all the construction work they had been doing when the economy was good? How about the drop in the subprime market? Could the fact that the US is deporting home owners who got loans and were paying on time and paying high interest have anything to do with it? Could the fact that 40% of mortgage brokers (i.e. US citizens) losing their jobs because the lucrative immigration market is drying up? Watch the prices of fruit and vegetable and hotel rooms in the next year. Here is a basic economy 101 basic: capitalism is dependent on cheap labor and emerging markets. You are shooting yourself in the foot, too bad the nursing shortage is going to get worse too.

people use your brains. Giving them a drivers liscence will give us a way to find them if they do something wrong. think about it.
