For Bill Gates, it is a tax write-off--no more. The rich do this so the public thinks they care about the poor. Hollywood stars do the same thing.

What fools these rich men be. Keep your money. Smoking is a choice. Those that choose to play the IMAGE GAME with piers, and smoke to look cool, or sexy, or whatever foolish reason, deserve cancer and a long, slow, agonizing struggle to breathe, until they croak. Will we feel bad for smokers who get cancer? No. Do we feel bad for homosexual anal sex perverts, and needle sharers who get AIDS and croak? No. It's all about choices, and the predictable end result that comes from their bad choice. Don't waste time and money looking for a cure for their disease, let them die, and maybe the message will finally get out, that they must pay for their deliberate bad choices. Stop trying to protect people from themselves. Survival of the fittest, and smartest. Let the fools perish. Keep your damn money. Or use it to reward GOOD behavior, not bad.

budget shortfall smoke em if u you got em. nothing worst than a reform smoker or a reform anything. Fascist. They have to make sure their livestock is healthy in order for us slaves to live longer.
Diabetes TYPE 2 COST MORE THAN YOUR SMOKING FIGURE AS
THE MOST COSTLY PREVENTABLE ILLNESS. BUT YET YOU DONT
PUBLISH THIS. YOU PROABLY DONT WANT TO OFFEND MOST OF
YOUR READERS.

So we can say its cheaper to have people smoke.

20 million have type 2 another 40 million are on
threshold.

20 million type 2= 132 billion=$6.600.00 per fat ass.
60 million smokers = 92 billion=$1534.00 per smoker.

By the way I pay for health insurance as well I have
Life insurance and I pay more for the premium a big 10
Dollars a month. So I don’t cost you or your healthy
Society nothing.
We don’t need a bureaucracy which equals, more tax more government. Your personal problem needs to be kept personal.

3 boos for future president hopeful bloomberg.
Just because you have money does not mean you have a greater say.

It's a ridiculous waste of money that could probably be well spent on more important issues! No one in the world (even in third world nations) can be unaware of the dangers of smoking. As a newly non-smoking individual I believe no smoker will quit until they are ready and a $500,000,000.00 ad campaign is not going to make anyone quit sooner!

Gee, what about Gates' original plan to rid the world of malaria? Did that turn out to be a little less glamorous than he and Melinda had originally thought?

"California is a leader in promoting health and nutrition, and I am pleased to continue that tradition by being the first state in the nation to phase out trans fats," Schwarzenegger said. "Consuming trans fat is linked to coronary heart disease, and today we are taking a strong step toward creating a healthier future for California."

Underreporting of Alcohol-Related Mortality on Death Certificates of Young U.S. Army Veterans
CDC recently evaluated death certificates of young, male U.S. Army Veterans to determine to what extent alcohol-related mortality was accurately reported (1). As part of the Vietnam Experience Study, CDC obtained death certificates and other available medical and legal records pertaining to the cause of death of 426 veterans who had served in Vietnam, Germany, Korea, or the United States during the Vietnam era (2,3). All deaths occurred after the men were discharged from active duty, from 1967 through 1983.
A nosologist, a specialist in the classification of diseases and causes of death, recoded each original death certificate in accordance with the Ninth Revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9)

Estimates of alcohol-related deaths annually in the United States now range from 15,000 to more than 200,000, Dr. Pollock said,''and one of reasons for the wide range in estimates is that official cause-of-death data is of questionable validity.''----Autopsies Find Diagnostic Errors CHICAGO, July 20 (AP)- One out of three autopsies uncovers signs of an erroneous diagnosis, and in one out of 10 cases the error could have contributed to the patient's death, a new study has found.

The rate of fatally wrong diagnosis may be even higher in small hospitals, according to the study in the current issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The study was based on autopsies performed at 32 hospitals around the country, ranging in size from 33 beds to more than 1,250 beds.

Autopsies showed that in 34 percent of the cases, there was a major discrepancy between the diagnosis and the autopsy findings. Autopsy Rate Is Said to Decline

''More than 10 percent of all autopsies showed that a better diagnosis may have resulted in a better outcome,'' said Dr. Robert Anderson, a member of the study team and chief of pathology at the University of New Mexico Medical School.

The most common misdiagnosed disorder was blood clots in the lungs, followed by infections, study found. For example, treatable bowel infections were misdiagnosed as inoperable tumors, the study said, or blood clots in the lungs were misdiagnosed as heart attacks.

Dr. George Lundberg, editor of the Chicago-based journal, said the findings point to a crisis in quality assurance in medicine caused by a decline in the number of autopsies. In some hospitals, he said, autopsies are performed on fewer than 5 percent of patients who die.

Why the praise? These two men are billionaires and if money is equated to intelligence-they wouldbe considered geniuses! We have legalized tobacco and alcohol(remembering prohibition failed ). As young man in the Air Force I remember my Captain stating a "stiff penis" has no conscience .Well the "stiff penises" of today are the tobacco and alcohol industries along with adverstising agents who profit and adult individuals who don't take personal responsibility .A start would be to ban all advertising for addictive substances and spend those advertsing millions for more worthy causes

FRIDAY, July 25 (HealthDay News)-- A clean, fresh-smelling home may actually be bad for your health, depending on what type of cleaning and air freshening products you use.

Recent research suggests that exposure to cleaning products or air fresheners that contain a certain volatile organic compound (VOC) called 1,4 dicholorobenzene (1,4 DCB), can reduce lung function by 4 percent. Another study found that the use of spray household cleaners could increase the risk of developing asthma by nearly 50 percent.

Yet a third study, reported by University of Washington researchers this week in the journal Environmental Impact Assessment Review, found that the fumes from air fresheners and fragrances contain hazardous toxins, none of which were listed on product labels since companies are not required by the federal government to disclose the ingredients in these products.

ridiculous nay-sayers. do-nothing, anarchist types.

smoking kills millions of people for money. what kind of choice is that when billions of people in the world who know nothing about how cigs kill?

spending $500 million for a tax write-off? give me a break. just don't spend it to begin with. until you put money where your mouth is, your nay-saying means nothing. just more whining and do-nothing neoconservativism that values money over a human being's quality of life.

grocery assocation lobbies congress to ban regulation of bad foods and reporting, and now we're stuck with a huge bill fixing it after the fact.

enough free-for-all and right-wing extremism already.

Bill Gates also contributed $60 million to develop invisible condoms.

South African leaders claim that Bill Gates's foundation is encouraging teens to have oral sex to prevent AIDS.

It's his money. He can choose to do with it as he wishes.

But people will still smoke cigarettes and they will still have sexual relations. We just don't know yet whether they'll be willing to use Bill's invisible condoms.

So besides stamping out smoking, he apparently wants to stamp out colored condoms. South Afr

If smoking is so terrible why is it legal? Here in Wisconsin the liberal Democrat governor needs the tax revenue from cigarettes to support his left-wing spending agenda.
