Maybe Suffolk cops should read this and understand what it means to run a municipality/business/enterpri se under the constrains of a shrinking budget.

stop taxing us to death and maybe we could spend a little cash. Unfortunately, it has become unpopular and nearly criminal to be prosperous and have money to spend. Both political parties have caused great harm to this country recently but Obama's ideas are just plain crazy

Come on John. They will simply say that it doesn't affect them, that the property taxes are what pay them and, by the way, most of the property taxes are for the schools.

Its bull-shlitz, of course, but that's what the union heads have drummed into the cops' heads.

The budget crisis all across NY State has only just begun. The biggest unions (teachers and cops) will be scrambling to justify their outrageous salary and benefit packages.

The pols will make pious speeches, but they are simply puppets of the unions, as shown again by the Suffolk County Legislature's unanimous vote a few weeks ago.

And, taxes, will go way, way up. They have to. Expenses keep going up.

Where do they think the money comes from? Salaries do not cover costs of living expenses, let alone the luxury of spending money on items we may want or even need. A stimulus package for taxpayers, like the one Bush did last year, only 10 times more, would be in order if we are expected to spend again. A no brainer.

I've been buying, I just do as much as I can online thus avoiding one of the many excessively high taxes in NYS. 8.65% so I can support wasteful spending?? Please, then they add a tax on fuel and tax on everything within my vision.

I have found it is less money even after being shipped to my door in almost every case when buying online. I have even found some websites that ship liquor and STILL it is cheaper or just slightly less than going to a NYS store and spening my money here.

Yes, I realize I am 'part' of the problem of low sales tax receipts and PERHAPS when NYS learns how to CUT a budget, cut back on wasteful spending and maybe take a way some of the countless ridiculous taxes I will buy something in NYS...otherwise, online it is.

BTW, I also found a 'loophole' in cell phone tax that will allow me to keep my NY area code, yet pay nevada tax which is 1.25% instead of something crazy like 17% in NYS.

Hey NYS and Nassau county...GO F-Yourself!!! I hope you go bankrupt at the state level and county level. Maybe then you can learn how to live on a budget like the rest of us schmucks who pay your ridiculous taxes on everything.

They keep squeezing and squeezing. I heard it described as too many people in the cart and not enough people pulling the cart.

we need to start kicking people off the public payrolls and the welfare ranks.

Unfortunately we just elected a President who has never even held a real job. By that I mean he has never worked for a profit making endeavor or been in a situation where his boss looks at him and thinks about whether or not he is earning th money he pays him.

We're top heavy people and pretty soon we are going to tilt over, or to put it another way, the cart is going to get to heavy to pull anymore.

It is time to seriously slash the public sector payroll. This means getting rid of 10 - 20% of all public employees, no buyouts, getting rid of public pensions that are through the roof, going into a public 401k plan, having public workers pay a larger chunk of their medical benefits with more out of pocket costs. Let the public sector come in line with what has happened to the private sector over the past 2 years.

Perhaps we can pay teachers and cops more so that they can spend more money on nicer cars and stuff and bring these sales tax numbers up...

Or we can just keep throwing it down the black hole of society that takes yet contributes NOTHING.... you choice!

Hey I got idea, lets quadruple the County portion of the sales tax, even if spending goes down people still have to buy the necessities and we can squeeze them harder. I say go ahead with the road usage tax, see all the traffic on the roads wow a cash cow !! Next, add a commuter usage tax, ride the rails you have to make up for the lost tax revenue on gasoline. Next, energy efficient homes, tax the crap out of them, go green, PAY A TAX.
hahahahahahahahahahaha sorry I just took a course on how to be a politician :)

People have complained about your ridiculous salaries for well over a decade..but since you are only capable of passing a civil SERVANT exam clearly you have no real knowledge to comprehend that.

BTW, I have a s*h*i*t load of money saved up, have a 2nd home out of state and live quite well...on top of that I've come up with about 20 ways to pay less taxes, ALL legal which contribute to the downfall of nassau county...in the hopes sometime soon, jerk*o*f*f*s like you will be layed off with no compensation as you wonder when the well went dry and how you have NO other skills to possible get another job.

then..the taxpayer can really get a good laugh at the 'poor' civil servants.

Yeah, and like the president we had before him was such a raging success in the private sector.

Let me ask you something, do you actually believe that only Cops and Teachers are the problem ? What about all the State and County workers ? Just because many dont make as much as Cops or teachers their combined benefits cost taxpayers money. Whats worse are I wuld bet there are quite a high number of County and State Workers who's salaries are 6 figures as well. These politicians really have so many people fooled. The problem is much much bigger than just Cops and Teachers, but you are all so focused on them that your blind to all the other waste. Look at Suozzi's latest nonsense, a $2.00 dollar a pack tax on cigarettes. So now some people will quit (which is good) others will purchase their smokes elsewhere. So he County collects nothing and in the same time generates a loss in sales tax. They just dont have a clue

You are correct, let's just do mandatory 10%-20% cuts in ALL PUBLIC employees, no exceptions, no UNION threats. That should get rid of some 'waste'.

BTW, also, spending like it was will never be back. People over-spent for well over a decade, on things they could not afford, they took home equity loans and spent and spent to keep up with the jones'... They are all tapped out, even if the recession levels, they are 'saving' as has been reported for months now. I guess maybe they are buying the basics and splurging now and then but they will NEVER anytime soon be spending like they were. So, local govermenets are never going to see money like that anytime soon and yet they still do not make cuts or do layoffs. But I assure you, that time is coming...at least the layoff part.

Also, more and more people are finding the easy ways and convenient ways to buy online, tax free...to do simple things to lower your tax bills whether it be drive less or spend less, or simply just change addresses on certain things that decrease your taxes.
just do it

Well, legally, anything you buy out of state, including on-line purchases, are subject to the "use" tax. You're supposed to pay the same tax rate on it, and fill out a form and send a check to Albany anytime you buy something online that would be subject to the sales tax if purchased in state.

Legally, it is a sales and use tax, though people just refer to it as a sales tax. The state is very busy, with other states, trying to force internet sellers to collect these use taxes.

They will keep trying, and in addition, will be looking to raise other taxes, fees, impose new taxes, sell assets, and push costs off into the future. There are many gimmicks they can employ, to kick the can down the road and put the problem to future politicians and taxpayers.

Daily Horoscope for January 6

Aries

The behaviour of somebody around you (most probably your partner or family member) may be rather irrational today. Alternatively, a surprise involving one of these people is possible. Try to keep your domestic plans reasonably flexible to cover all possible outcomes. The focus is on improving your relationship with your partner or with friends today. Any outings should go very smoothly.
