Minaya under microscope without cash reserve

Full story: Newsday

He is in a whole new territory in a completely different situation. He showed some huge promise a few years ago, but lately the results have been very spotty.

It's bonehead moves like signing Perez that Minaya needs to overcome. Otherwise, he'll always be remembered as a GM that failed with a $140M checkbook.

You hate to think that way, but there does seem to be a focus on latino players and the results have not been there. The lazy, stupid stereo types you have outside of the sports world appear on the Mets. Beltran doesn't slide; Reyes doesn't hustle and makes incredibly stupid mistakes on the bases; others don't run out pop ups. Is it cultural? Is that the type of team the Mets have because of their latin focus? It may not be politically correct, and hopefully will not be censured, but it's a fair question given what we've seen over the last few years.

I have it on good authority that the Mets will trade Brian Schneider, Luis Castillo, Gary Sheffield, and Mike Pelphrey for Blue Jays catching prospect J.P. Arencibia, Aaron Hill, Alex Rios and Roy Hallyday.
They will then send Tim Redding and Livan Hernandez to the Giants for Tim Linsecum and Matt Cain.
Believe That.

Your "good authority" has $40m going to the cash strapped Jays for $150m contracts off the books, anyone buying that? Find a new authority.

My thoughts exactly...your comments are right on the money. Additionally, I think of the kids who attend the game. With the exception of Wright, there is not one role model on that team.

As stated in the article, Omar has assembled a team of lazy Latinos nobody in their right mind would trade for. In stead of "No problem mon" Omar has a very big problem!

He and Tony B have FLEECED our minor league system and built a shallow major league (barely) team. Can't wait for the signings of Juan Gonzalez, Tino Martinez, Armondo Benitez and Manny Sanguillen. We are entering a funk that will last 3 years. Thanks, Omar...thanks Jeff, thanks Tony....you boneheads!

I think the Wilpons will spend money. They do not want to throw away what few prospects they have .

The Wilpons spend money, but they only go so far. IMO, they go far enough to have a team that will compete for the playoffs and that's it. While this year is an aberration because they lost approximately $300 million in the Madoff fraud, it appears that they give Minaya an annual budget for player salaries, and Minaya uses all of that budget at the beginning of the year. Maybe he does not add players at the trade deadline because he can't go over the budget.

Why hold Minaya accountable? Few are accountable in the country anymore? Who was accountable for Vietnam and the deaths and suffering it caused? Who in corporate America and the Congress will be held accountable for our economic collapse, ruined lives, job losses? Will Bush and Cheny be held responsible for lying about Iraq and its use of torture? So why worry about Minyaya? He's here to stay.

Alvin Dark when he managed the Giants allegedly claimed he didn't believe it was possible to win with too many Latin players. Dark denied he said it. It eventually cost him his job.

Am I the only one who finds it ridiculous that behind home plate at crappy field it reads "losmets.com ". Right behind home plate. Sure equal opportunity to all but it's still America. It's "The New York Mets" in any language. Period! Omar panders and appears racists. Demand change in that advertising people.

I respectifully disagree with the reporter Mark Herrmann comments about Omar Minaya.I believe that we should not forget the fact that Minaya created the biggest National League payroll for the Mets with nothing to show for.All the money that Minaya has spent to restock inventory ( the way he calls all those rejects that he has signed including Oliver Perez (Which he new full well was not reliable) Livian Hernandez, Luis Castillo Pedro Martinez JJ Putz, to name a few .In my opinion he has done to the Mets the samething that Madoff has done to the Wilpons personally. His modus operandy has allways been to look for reject players, and has we all know, you do not win with reject players.I remember during the winter the die hard Mets fans were begging him to sign Lowe, Hudson,Ramirez to name a few.He kept braging that the ofense was sufficient among other things.Lets not give credit when it is not deserved.Montreal to my knowledge, has not won a world series, they only made the palyoff once. That explain why the Expo are now the Nationals. In Montreal Minaya blamed the lock of funds and in New York he is blaming the injuries. He should not be able to get a double pass. in my opinion, with an 140M dollars payroll, you should produce a winner. We all do respect.

Does anyone thinks that the Mets need JJ Putz, Billy Wagner, A Rod to be closers? I do not believe so.Just by trading some of those players the Mets would have some funds available to get a decent pitcher, not a super star just a reliable pitcher.I strongly believe that when the players make the big money, they become less effective. In addition I strongly recommend to the mets to break the social club of players that they have. They need consistency which they do not have and most of all learn how to play the game without those comic plays.

I really don{t think that there is any problem to have Wagner-Putz-KRod in the bullpen with Parnell, Feliciano and Stokes.
The St Rotation will be Santana Santana, Pelfrey, Perez, Maine and Niese.
The Mets problem is hitting and they have address part of that.
If this Team could go healthy for two months with Reyes, Castillo, Beltran, Delgado, Wright, Francoure, Scheffield, Omir Santos we could have some hopes., I think that Maine will be back in a week, Reyes in 2 or 3 weeks, Beltran in 4 weeks, Delgado in 5 weeks and Putz in 6 weeks and Wagner in 7 weeks

OMar has to show that he has the brains to make a deal that will help the Mets to the play offs. Right now they are out of the Wildcard and out od the division title . Get another starter and couple of guys that hit instead of stiking out or looking at third stikes. I have never seen a team stand there with 2 strike and take a called 3rd strike with his bat on his shoulder .All he has to do is reach out and tip the ball off the bat to stay alive but just to stand there and take it is just plain BS and David Wright and Castillo both do it . We need about 2 more Danny Murphys on this team ,guys that hussle and can hit the ball to all fields . Come on Omar get your butt in gear and get this team the help it needs or you'll be the one to go .

Daily Horoscope for November 14

Virgo

As much as you would like to tell a certain someone off today, it's wiser to bite your tongue. E-mail can come back to haunt you; we all know stories of someone who accidentally sent the wrong memo out to the entire office. If you really must vent, wait until you get home and then tell your partner your woes. Go for a long walk first to get the edge off.
