Lynbrook scored 41 today without Denapoli. Left 5 minutes into game with knee injury. Dont know how bad, but if it is bad and he is out at Hofstra Hewlett will have a great chance to win that game

OK, good one. The reason I asked is that when I was at the P-M vs Northport game in October they had lights, what I didn't realize is that they were portable.

You see I stuck with Carey.

Actually I've met Gregg Sarra twice, once last season at the LIC when his son was playing at Conntequot, and the other at the Newsday Sports Writers Dinner in 2007. He happens to be good guy.
If you go back to when my father played in the mid '60's there was no comparision between Nassau and Suffolk. There was very few Suffolk teams that could compete with Farmingdale, Massapequa, Syosset, Sewanhaka, Port Washington, Herricks, Garden City.
Things really started to change in the early 70's when the population really started to move East.
BTW I've had a lot of arguments with Neil Kerr and John Moriello from the NYSSWA about how the LI football teams would've faired had they been allowed to compete in NY State Tournament at the Dome. I said just look at how good our LaCrosse, Soccer, Wrestling and Baseball, and even a few of our Basketball teams are.
Maybe one day they will be allowed to compete in the State Tournment.
I went to college with Sarra, played on the baseball team with him. One of the worst teammates ever. He actually had a fight with our team captain during practice. When he writes articles for Newsday, he always finds a way to incorporate himself into the story. I agree with your assessment of the rise of Suffolk. Only a few towns in Nassau really pay attention to their High School sports.

Can someone answer this question for me: when did Baldwin turn into a team that's about 70% black? I went to see my nephew play for East Meadow yesterday (against Baldwin) and was completely shocked at what I saw on Baldwin.

P.S. For those who were talking a week or so ago about Baldwin having a lot of coaches and a lot of fat coaches, holy crow were you guys right. Even the photographer (I'm guessing from Newsday, as opposed to being a student) on the Baldwin sidelines was a huge old fat guy. Maybe it contageous.

That score was almost as bad(10-6)as the Kings Park vs Islip game(3-0). Any time one of your best players goes down, it's a problem, but that's part of the game. Look at the Bayport/BP vs Babylon game I believe their QB Dylan Hopkins sprained his ankle in practice. I don't even think he threw a pass? It was still a good win for Bayport/BP they played a real solid game.

Thanks, I even got the Bellport vs West Babylon(21-14) and was pretty close on a couple of other games, Glenn(45)vs GP/SH/Matt/SI(7). I had the game 48-7, Amityville(35) vs Center Moriches(14). I had this game 34-14.

Another game I wasn't sure about was the Northport vs Brentwood game. I wrote about why on the Newsday HS Football Fan Forum - Talk Back. I had that game Northport 30 Brentwood 27.

The game I was at was the Floyd - Longwood game. I actually thought Longwood was going to win. Floyd scored 13 in the third quarter, plus the 6 sacks and the goal line stand didn't help Longwood.

My brother attended the Connetquot - Lindenhurst game and he said Lindy looked really good. He said Stephen Skon was on fire at QB.

Brentwood won in 2nd OT, 33-26. Horrible non-call on pass interference in end zone. But congrats Brentwood.

Just had a travel baseball practice for my son and 2 of the kids on the team play for East Rockaway. They told me that Roosevelt played without their 2 best players due to injury. It is part of the game but also gives you an idea why Clarke won the game.

Gonna be some great playoff games this week.what happened this week there where some bad upsets. East Meadow out? I can't believe it wow! What happened to Plainedge? That was a close one.Denapoli hurt, say it ain't so. I bet Plainedge might be able to sleep a little better.Did Freeport really have to beat Oceanside like that? Roosevelt out man what a weekend. Can Hewlett take on Denapoli and Co? Can Lawrence play a good defensive game and take down a sometimes off Plainedge?

Russ Cellan runs up the score on the #8 seed to warn anyone that wants an 8 team playoff that this is what he thinks of it. One year, his team will either be the #8 seed and the favor will be returned to him, or he will be the #1 seed and will be beaten. If that ever happens, by the way, he will be at the Coaches Meeting the next Spring and demand that they scrap the 8 team system.

What do you mean "what happened to Plainedge?" They beat a good GNN team, maybe not with ease, but none the less they beat them 21-13. Lynbrook did what they had to do beat Bethpage. Even if you don't have DeNapoli you will still have to stop Wolmacher and Virgonnia, it won't be easy. Lawrence looked real good against Manhasset.

Since this is only the second year, I'm not really convinced that you will ever see a #8 seed team beat a #1 seed team, unless all 11 starters are suspended prior to the game. I know he hates the 8 team formate. In Suffolk Division I you did have a #6(Brentwood)seed defeat the #3(Northport)seed, the number #5(Lindenhurst)defeat the #4(Connetquot)seed. I know in Suffolk II all 1-4 seeded defeated the #'s 5-8 teams. In Division III the #4 seeded(Ilsip)lost to the #5 seeded(Kings Park)and in Division IV the #2 seeded(Babylon)lost to #7 seeded(Bayport/BP). So who khows, I can say I don't think I would've run up the score on Oceanside just to make a point. Again this is only the second year of the 8 team format.

Not to mention the #2 seed Floyd vs #7 seed Longwood game was very competitive. I dont agree with the new format but there will always be upsets.

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Aquarius

Avoid making promises today, or even believing in other people's promises. Today is not a good day to make commitments, as they are not likely to materialise. Taking risks is a no-no. Try to relax until the numbers are in your favour. Those pursuing their career will benefit.
