I don't know what to think about these Mets. I don't know if they'll be able to bounce back even when they get Delgado, Reyes, and Beltran back. If the Mets don't make the playoffs again this year, then Wilpon needs to get rid of Minaya and start rebuilding their farm system by trading away some of the current mets.

Mr Matthews
Please go away.
It is sad when journalists are openly rooting for the Mets failure.
Maybe you and Steve Phillips should have lunch before Sunday nights game and compare notes on how much joy both of you get in bashing the Mets.

I've been saying for years that Omar must have some secret info on the Wilpons. Why else would this guy still have his job. Just of recent, his evaluation was loving O. Perez and Castillo and overlook D.Lowe, O. Hudson, R. Ibanez. Both McClouth and DeRosa traded for a song with no attempt from Omar the Great. A GM is in charge of building the organization, not just the major league roster. All teams have injuries and plug holes with minor league prospects. Not Omar. Thanks Omar for ruining my team.

Thank you Mr. Matthews. This article was years in the making. At best, with everyone healthy, the Mets were made to compete for a playoff spot and IF they made the playoffs, go no further than the first round.

Minaya has brought in the wrong kind of players. Stupid, lazy, no hustle, no guts. While every team suffers injuries, no team mismanages them like the Mets. It's pathetic. The Wilpons need to get rid of everyone involved in that whole process. And while we're on the Wilpons, yes, they have spent money on players (the wrong players thanks to Omar), but they've cheaped out on a manager, who doesn't seem to have a problem with all the stupid, lazy play.

Put it all together, and you have an organization of LOSERS!!!!!!

The Won'tpons never get it right all the way through. The concept of giving a baseball man autonomy and keeping their misguided noses out of the mix was inspired. The selection of a dummy like Omar Minaya was typical of them.Omar cannot see past his nose. He has no plan and never had. Can a big market team hire someone with a big market mind, not some kid in a toy store with a runaway credit card?

Thanks Wally-

You got this right. We are rooting for laundry- a uniform that is being held captive by the worst owners this city has seen ever. The Wilpons have no clue, and worse, no care about winning- it's a nice to have with them, not a must have.

They have a smiling face for the cameras in David Wright- who is a nice .350 hitting singles hitter in the middle of the lineup, Santana every 5 days, and nothing else. David Wright is now Ichiro without the glove or speed.

I want failure and embarrassment for the Wilpons, nothing more, nothing less. Based on the way the last two seasons ended, and the way this one has gone- I want to see empty seats in their new stadium come August.

Unfortunately for these morons, they will finish 3-4 games out of the wild card and division and feel emboldened to blame it on injuries.

I could not agree with you more. This team is a very unfunny joke and a disgrace. How could a major league team field a lineup like the Mets. Just bring up the entire Buffalo team. Omar says he has an open checkbook, but does he have any checks? I'm afraid this team will be alot worse in the future. They need a firstbaseman, catcher, at least one corner outfielder and a BENCH so Argenis Reyes does not have to pinchhit as the only righty on the bench as he did on Friday.HEY WILPON FAMILY EITHER WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE OR SELL THE TEAM. AS A LOYAL FAN FOR OVER 40 YEARS, THIS IS AN EMBARRSEMENT.

It's time for Minaya to leave the club. He is the laughing stock of all MLB. Minaya is fully responsible for this team's failure to win. His poor decision to resign veteran players and not re-build this team with youth three years ago has come to haunt the team. A complete failure and I am embarrassed for him.

Isn't it interesting how all the Met players, especially David Wright, complain about the size of the park and not being able to hit home runs, and yet teams come in and guys are hitting it out of sight. If there is one thing that this team has gotten good at is making excuses and deluding themselves to the reality.
The sad thing is that many of us are buying into it. But lets face it, this team is rotten to "the core" and that includes Wright! One poster asked why Miniya hasn't jumped on available players. Well what does he have to offer in return. David Wright? What will that get us? The answer? Dismantle the entire organization from the top down and start new with the approach minnesota or Florida has taken from time to time. I'd much rather deal with some rebuilding years that this nonsense year in and year out!

The game has changed folks. Minaya has overpaid for latin players that wanted to go elsewhere but could not refuse the Met money (Pedro,Delgado, Beltran,Santana). All but Beltran was past their prime and Beltran was never really a great player. They didn't come here to win- they came to collect.

The Mets have the money to always buy what they need (Krod) and are always plugging holes with cash instead of developing their own talent. Doesn't work but they will always contend because of the weak NL and the big name free agents. They just won't ever win.

"You could swallow that if at least the Mets had acceptable substitutes to plug in until the regulars return. But we know now that they don't".

Really, Sir Hackenstein? I guess Alex Cora, who only has one more World Series ring than all of the other Mets combined, has shown more leadership and guts than just about anyone else in a Mets uniform. How about Gary Sheffield, who everybody thought was going to be a clubhouse cancer but has turned out not only to be a good citizen but has also been in the middle of some key Met victories? How about Nick Evans, who only the day after he shows up from Binghamton goes hits a three run homer and the next day gets a key 2 run RBI double to beat the Cardinals.

Folks, I agree, this team is severley depleted and it would be nice if Omar could get a major big bat in the lineup, but do you want the rest of the National League to fleece the Mets into giving up a young player that may become a star in the future to fill a temporary need and be saddled with a high salary for that need? If you look at the National Leugue as a whole, you'll see that no one team is running away with anything in each of the divisions, which makes it even harder to make a deal since no one team in the league wants to trade while that team still thinks it has a chance of winning.

Maybe I'm in the severe minority here, but I think Omar will use his common sense to make a deal for a big bat without giving up too much. As far as Sir Hackenstein's article, well, that's Wally being Wally.

You people who want to rebuild the organization are the same people who won't want to wait for the team to improve. It will take a few years of last place to do this and this town will not put up with that. I don't think Omar did everything right (Ollie Perez,no outfield bat) but he can only do what his budget allows.

I am not a Wallace Matthews fan, but he hit the nail on the head with this.
Plain and simple, Minaya has to go. Why the Wilpons can't see this is beyond me. Every player can't be a superstar, but if the big guys go down, the replacements have to make some sort of effort. This is not to say Manuel has made some bad moves this year..oh boy has he...but the Gm has to get players who can perform. And if the Mets really start to fade, you are going to see alot more than expensive seats being empty at Citi Field.

While Wally loves to put down the Mets, he's right on target with this article. Omar should have been gone after the 2007 debacle and the Wilpons are clueless....

I've been a Met fan since the polo grounds. They stank then and they stink now.
I was younger then and it was all fun.
Now its agony!!!
Omar has done nothing to improve the club with in season deals,
if he had we would have won the last 2 years. SOS Omar!
