After working in Long Term care for the past 18 years,and fighting with politicians,management,paper pushers etc..I have yet to see ONE of the above people watch what actually goes on in a nursing home. When there are 2 psw(personal support workers)taking care of 28 residents(and their families)who in some cases need more help than the poor resident!)We are threatened,bitten,kicked,slapp ed spit on spit at and this for 15.00/19.00 an hour?Funny the politicians sitting in their offices making the rules for all of us get a lot more than than. I chose nursing as a profession because I truly do love my job,but I am becoming very discouraged with what I have to see every day. The moral from the employees is terrible, the burn out rate incredible,and unless something changes very soon, things will only get worse before they get better. Imagine for one minute your loved one,being restrained,medicated,force fed,suspended from mechanical lifts,bathed once a week...I'm not sure about you, but I don't want my life ending that way.
