Brophy on Leafs: Burke has the right idea

Why does the media constantly promote the idea of trading away Leafs prospect? It's always trade, trade, trade. Is it because it makes for better news? If the club has put a ton of time and money developing these prospects, why not give them a shot in the show first and see how well the development has taken. The commitment should be that all top prospect will be Leafs. And take all the time necessary to do the job right. It's been 45 years since the last Stanley and its been trade trade trade every year since and look where that's gotten them, 7 years out of the play downs. Stop the trade, trade trade rant and start the develop, develop develop rant!

Good point stanley.. look at the montreal canadiens...for years they build their teams from within.......thus many stanley cups,now they are trying the trade or sign the free agent tricks,and havent won since they early nineties,which is about the time savard started the trading method of building.........stay the course burkie and bring the kids up one at a time !!!!!!!
