Penguins 7, Jackets 2: Penguins fill up Nationwide Arena with goals, fans | BlueJacketsXtra

Full story: BlueJacketsXtra

As if having Nationwide Arena taken over by Pittsburgh Penguins fans wasn't bad enough, the Blue Jackets only furthered the indignity brought upon their fans by turning in an abysmal performance last night.

even before the game started the Penguins fans were more vocal...Bluejackets fans are as bad as their team, they don't cheer unless opponent fans cheer first and embarrass them

LOSE THE THIRD JERSEYS. They are jinxed. No points while wearing them, the slide started when they were unveiled.

Now I'm starting to see why Hitchcock ended up yelling at this team all the time. What else could he have done?
This team started the year fired up..then they meet quality teams & they revert back to their old ways...playing hard only when they want to. They've quit shooting the puck like the coach wants them to...too much passing...too little motivation. Half the players disappear for games on end. I ended up cheering for Crosby & a class act like Pittsburgh. The Jackets remind me of the first NY Mets team of the 60's--laughable.

For starters, Columbus is the western-most suburb of Pittsburgh. Visit most sportsbars today and observe the sea of Black & Gold showing up to see the Steelers on the wide screens. Pens fans are everywhere in Central Ohio. We get a break from the Yinzers in the Summertime - Thank you Pirates.

But the bottom line is that the Blue Jackets remain a perennial loser that is unable to elevate itself into the NHL's upper tier. Back-to-back whippings against the Red Wings, and now a thorough behind-kicking by yet another NHL elite team should be proof positive that the Blue Jackets are essentially "something you go to see on your way to somewhere else" on a Saturday night in Columbus.

Woeful.

It was as if the Jackets never showed up to play in the game. I think the Junior jackets could have done a better job. Man, what a waste of mnoney for the tickets.

I did cheer on the Jackets before and during the game. Not with the gusto that I normally use. But at least I attempted to cheer at the game for them, even though we were surrounded by the black and gold.

All I know is that I feel sorry for Nash. The guy could have gone anywhere in the NHL and signed a big money deal. However he decided to stay in Columbus and play for a loser organization.
LeBron made a pretty good decision actually!

This team is an embarrassment to the city and the entire league. Move them to Quebec.

Just read Forbes about the weak financial stake the Bluejackets are in; Nationwide is not on the Bluejackets side!! The front office may say no to being for sale, as they should to perserve any ticket sales this season, but the team will soon be singing, "Goodby Columbus"!!

"half" of the fans were Penguins fans? I'd say closer to 70 percent. What did the poor jackets fans in attendance - myself included - have to cheer for? I've never been so ashamed, and it's the first time I've ever left a game early. I have a pair of tickets for one more game. Probably my last for a long, long time. This club has no heart and no grit. Couldn't even manage to start a fight until the game was already over.

I wasted 200 hard earned bucks last night. Not much effort out there. Won't be going back for a while. I showed up but many of the players should have bought tickets too. All they did was show up.

From a lifelong Penguins fan I strongly dislike that some Pens fans at last nights game gave derisive chants to Blue Jackets fans.
I have followed the Blue Jackets since your first year and wish you and your team well. I was at the Penguins first game in the league. Many years of losing followed. I still rooted for them, but things didn't change until the right owners, management, and coaches were in place simultaneously. We didn't get to draft Lemieux, Jager, Stevens, Crosby, Malkin, Staal, and Fleury because we always had success. Hang in there, your time will come. Alot of Pens fans and other fans in the league would love to have R. J. Umberger and Rick Nash on their team.

Tell that to the bars and restaurants in the Arena District. Good, bad or otherwise, they don't want to see the team move. They still remember the beating they took in the lock-out.

And I don't know how much or an embarrassment you can say they are since most people forget their even here. If it's not in scarlet and grey, people in this town (except the band-wagoners, and God knows there are plenty in Columbus) just don't care and wont support it.

Very true. Love to have RJ! I am true Pens fan living in Columbus, I want the team to do well so we can keep hockey in town. I was loving the game but some of my fellow fans were a little rough on the home team. I don't like the booing or the rude comments to other fans, have some class guys. Cheer for you team and leave it at that.

I went to my annual Blue Jackets game last night. Thought the ticket was a bit overpriced but sat on the blue line in the top row and still had a good seat. My Buckeyes jersey kept me warm. Had a few beers and got to see Sidney Crosby. Frankly, I don't see what everybody's complaining about...

I hardly think being in 7th in the Western conference after a 5 game losing streak is embarrassing. Get a grip Fred! The performances against Buffalo and Pittsburgh (probably the hottest team in the NHL) were embarrassing but the 3 wins out west and 8-1 crushing of St Louis were impressive. I get dissapointed even mad when we lose but as a true fan I don't abandon my team.

Go Jackets!
