Canada wins hockey gold over U.S. with overtime goal

Full story: Zap2it.com

This was the best possible way to end the Olympics for Canada. Sidney Crosby, shut down most of the tournament, wristed a shot past Ryan Miller 7:40 into overtime after the United States tied it with 24.4 seconds left in regulation, and Canada survived a tense, taut game to beat the Americans 3-2 in the men's hockey final Sunday.

I must be honest, thought the US team had a very good chance of beating us, knew it would be a tough game BUT I'm darn proud to be a Canuck tonight.

14 gold medals as well... Winter Olympic record.

it was a great Olympics for sure, and for us to win more Gold Medals of all time, for any Olympics is awesome. and before anybody says well we won most of them. just remember that Canada is the 2 largest Land mass in the world, but WE Have LESS people then the STATE OF CALIFORNIA. So we can be very proud of what our athletis did. Good for them:)

As an American who has the privilege of watching Sidney Crosby play for the Penguins on a regular basis (I'm from Pittsburgh), I must say that the ONLY thing good about losing to Canada was having Sid score the goal.

What a game...great competition.

Team USA proved their point for deserving respect for producing some of the best hockey players in the world - isn't that what this was all about? Team USA had better stats and most wins over all other teams, beat teams that beat Canada, and by losing the Gold in Overtime they certainly showed they are on every playing level as the Canadians. Way to Go Team USA! Too bad whining boy has to score the winning goal.

Great game indeed and the US should be proud of their team. It's anybody's game in overtime and we "got lucky".

You certainly are producing good hockey players.Just learn to lose gracefully.

I am glad to hear you think the USA produces as good of hockey players as Canada, not many Canadians will admit that.

I have quite a few friends in Canada...(as well as the USA)...But my heart .. as well as fingers crossed was for Canada...

And I think Australia went pretty well as well... considering we dont have much snow here.... 2 Gold and 1 silver... not bad for a 'Sunburnt country'.

I'd live in California too if I had his cash.

But hell yeah for Canada! Good job boys! And by the way, the USA did not beat any teams that beat Canada. They beat Canada once, then we beat them where it mattered. Thank you guys for the great rivalry, it really got some hearts pumpin'!.

Sid was pretty quiet throughout the entire tournament. It wasn't luck. As I said before, watching him 2 or 3 times per week on the Penguins just told me it was a matter of time.

I can't believe no one else has asked this question yet!

Does anyone north of the border know if the Canadian men hockey players celebrated in a unique way "on ice...in private" after the medal ceremony like their women counterparts did?
