It's much better than a team name of the Wild !
Your location says Hempstead, NY. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is on Long Island, right? Aren't the Islanders named for the location of the team and their fans? Well same goes here. The "Wild" is a location here. It also may refer to how we as Minnesotans like to spend some of our free time. Many people here like to fish, hunt, go camping, or just like to spend lots of time outdoors, in the "Wild". The name may seem weird or funny to outsiders, but in all honesty if fits perfectly with the location and state of mind of many Minnesotans. Believe me, I wasn't all that impressed with it when it was first announced, but over time the name has grown on me, and I couldn't imagine my hockey team with another name.

And we really, really care that you people don't like the team name. We'll probably all lose sleep over that. I am just looking forward to the season starting and see what happens.

Yes, I live on Long Island (although not in Hempstead). Islanders are named for their location, I guess. I'm not sure, I hate the Isles. The Wild is a location ? Where, outside ? C'mon !!!!!

What's next, the Hamilton Fun ? The Kansas City Excitement ?

wow jesus is almost as dumb as wild "fans" thinking we care about thier drafing opinions, simple fact is the draft is a thing of luck some people will knowingly be good others just develop, take a look at some of the top player's original drafing positions then say something.

Alright we get it, you don't like the name! You don't see us questioning the origins of New York teams names, although there are some in need of explaining. What is a Knickerbocker? Or how about a Metropolitan? And don't even get me started with the New York Red Bulls? Which gets me thinking there are some stupid MLS names out there too. Chicago Fire? D.C. United? Houston Dynamo? I bet you complain about them too. My point is who the F_CK cares what a team name is? You got to remember who your dealing with here, us Minnesotans love our hockey, Mites all the way to the NHL. We could care less about the team name, as long as we get to watch hockey.

I only asked because when hockey came back to MN, they said the fans picked the name The Wild. I was wondering how "the wild" was chosen in front of other team names.

Oh, you mean other team names like, The Blue Ox, Freeze, Northern Lights, Voyageurs, or White Bears? Those along with the Wild were the finalists, and only The Voyageurs sounds even remotely acceptable. Granted the Wild as a name, has some flaws, but when compared to our other choices, the right choice was made. Besides, if you care so much and don't like it, would you care to offer up any suitable replacements of your own?

P.S. I know Voyageurs may look like it is spelled wrong, but it's a reference to Voyageurs National Park in northern Minnesota.

Wow, those are some interesting names. Northern Lights would have been funny.

If I was going to name the team, I'd stick with the North Stars !

a period would be a grammar issue not spelling so using "grammar check" would have been the correct thing to say, but nice try.... idiot and i agree with northstars(if dallas didnt have stars already), but dallas should have never got to keep the "stars" name. just like the lakers stole our other good name... basterds

To disgruntled fans, they failed to sign an aging center who is slowing down, injury prone, and most importantly had low production numbers. How right you are. The WILD are terrible and there is no light in sight.
