Are we now glorifying the horrific conditions of this and other nasty, dirty, inhumane shelters because there is some PR in having a Blues Player come and get some dogs? Where is the story on the inhumane conditions of this place and the fate of the rest of the animlas inside??

And I can attest that the help these dogs are getting from the St Charles Humane Society Pralle location is ALLLLLL GOOOOODD! Wake up people, stop buying that which only gives your heart contentment for awhile and start adopting what will give your heart great joy like you've never known you could have!

it is great to see the Backes family who have a nice chunk of money, step up and help out our furry four legged friends and help local county shelters in a time of need. to bad more pro sports athletes don't do the same...

i like to see David Backes beat the crap out of Michael Vick for what he has done to dogs!

This is not about the Backes having money or their's about the DOGS. And everyone can help out somewhere, IN some way, without it involving 'money' all the time.

I don't blame the Backes, good for them getting these dogs out there--now these pups have a chance. Shame on Fox 2 for not exposing Farmington what it is-a filthy, mismanaged shelter which is "no-kill" in name only. Those dogs are kept there for years, with very little socializing and many who go into the shelter come out unadoptable. St. Charles was down there rescuing dogs because Farmington doesn't take care of their dogs properly. Fox 2 was called for a reason, and the Backes get enough good PR that I doubt it was for that. Farmington Pet Center is not a shelter that deserves a warm and fuzzy piece but a serious look into who is running this shelter, what their policies are, and what they are doing to fix these problems. This shelter is filthy, there are exposed wires, and from what I have heard the people who run the shelter (the board of Directors) have never even visited the shelter. Shame on Fox 2 for not exposing them.

Unfortunately Fox 2 did not cover the REAL story here - the deplorable conditions of the Farmington Pet Adoption shelter and the animals that are IMPRISONED there. They have dogs that have been there for years & many of them are aggressive, unsocialized & unadoptable. Many dogs came to the shelter as puppies & because of the lack of knowledge, experience & training of the staff, these dogs are now unadoptable. The dogs are kept in pens without proper exercise, handling & affection. They do not have adequate shade from the hot summer sun & they are left outside all winter even during freezing temperatures. St. Charles Humane Society RESCUED these dogs to give them an actual chance at life, unlike what Farmington has done. Shame on you Farmington Pet Adoption Center.

I would love to know how many of you who have negative comments for the Farmington Pet Adoption Center have actually BEEN there? I have personally worked with this group over the last couple of years and have yet to see any of the deplorable conditions you are describing. These animals are in a safe, clean and caring environment with a working board of volunteers who put in countless hours on-site. The animals there are well taken care of, well fed, sheltered, given exercise and simply need a forever home. We are truly blessed to have this organization in our area and shame on you for trying to make people believe otherwise!

All you people with the negative post should stop talking and start acting! You have a Blues player and his wife helping and they have more going on now then any of us! All the people that are posting saying bad things are siting on thier fat ass talking stupid! Get up go down there and help! Make it better your self dont wait for fox 2 to show up! I have dogs from the St Louis humane society and would never buy a dog! The ass holes talking stupid here are the ones who go to the puppy mills and pay the $1000.00's for the dogs that kill the rest! Maybe they should go share the same cell the Vick was in! Grow up and get a heart say THANK YOU since the dogs cant we need to say thank you to all that help for them!

If there were a working boards of volunteers and they cared for their dogs, then why are the dogs not able to walk on a leash? Why when you walk into there pen they run from you and hide instead of running to you with a wagging tail wanting affection. Check the intake forms, look at the number of dogs that came in as 2-3 month old puppies in 2008 and 2009 that are now over 1 year and 1 1/2 years old and not socialized. They do not know how to be a pet because they have been treated as an animal outdoors in filth. I have been there. The facts speak for themselves. Go see the unsocialized dogs at the hands of the workers at Farmington Pet Adoption Center.

This place is supposed to be a safe place for them be for a short time till they are adopted to their new family. They have turned into a sanctuary. When they take a dog in they should disclose that they are a no kill facilty. however they will not meet the emotional, physical or emotional needs of the animals once in there care. St, Charles has been rescuing dogs from them for sometime, this isn't the first. More like the 10th time. St. Charles gives these dogs a chance, works with them, frees them from the diseases and cleans them up from the filth they have been living in. St. Charles is the one to be blessed here for rescuing these dogs and giving them what The Pet Adoption Center should have been doing.
