Once again you can blame a big chunk of this loss and the rest of this season on Martin. Teams close to Florida who are battling for a playoff spots like Buffalo, NY, Carolina and Pittsburgh all made significant moves at the trade deadline to bolster their rosters and add depth in case of injuries. Martin did nothing except pick-up a poor defensemen from one of the worst defensive teams in the league. The results are now starting to show. After losing key offensive players we are now outside looking in (9th place). All the commendable hard work and sacrifice these guys put in under DeBoer is slipping through their fingers like grains of sand. If we had a Guerin, Kunitz, Kotalik, Moore, Recchi, O'Sullivan or even, heaven forbid, a Satan we might have had a shot a winning this game and the games still left to play. Now it doesn't look so bright for the hard working team run by a ship of fools. Flame away flamers!

Ouch, that one hurts. The Cats did not look sharp at all.
We need to start climbing again.
One bright spot was some nice play by Repik.

Red, I don't buy pinning this loss on Martin. He's done a lot this year to get this team into playoff contention. He brought in a good young coach and has changed the entire make up of the team. Satan was passed over by everyone and his contract numbers were way too high for his value. We've got good personnel, they just didn't show up last night against the Sabres. I still think they will show up for the remainder of the games and will maintain their playoff slot. Teams with a lot of young players like the Cats can be streaky.

Any of you excuse makers out there want to blame this one on the refs, too? Can't score on a 5-3 advantage? I'm a fan, but they're showing me they don't want it as much as these other teams. Facts are facts.

That was a quick trip from the 5th spot to the 9th spot. Luckily Dallas beat Carolina and Pittsburgh just got 1 point last night in Columbus so they didn't lose too much ground. 5 games in a row at home now. I'd say they need to win four of the them to have a solid chance. If the Panthers fall too far (more than 4 points) behind the eighth spot I don't they are playing good enough hockey to get back in. They need to start winning. Those 2 games in hand on Carolina are going to be huge.

I agree. Panthers offense is putrid, they don't have CONSISTENT scorers. Yeah Booth can score a hat trick but then he vanishes for a month, no one else steps up to fill the scoring gap. This is a weak offensive team, Martin did nothing to address our poor offense at the trade deadline and this will be the reason the Panthers do not make the playoffs for the 9th straight year.

I hear the Bure brothers live in South FL, make them an offer Jacquestrap.

If the Panthers miss the playoffs again and Bouw walks for nothing in the offseason Martin is going to have a lot to answer for. Bad move by not adding any offense at the deadline. Yes the team is better this year but it still has trouble scoring. Should have dealt a draft pick or two for some help. It was out there and no Louie I'm not talking about Satan.

As usual, you cherry pick one word out of my entire post (Satan) and use it to make your point. Sorry Louie. I don't buy it. Martin stated a few weeks ago that his ONLY goal was to get this team into playoffs. I was 100% behind his statement and I thought he really meant what he said for a change. Nevertheless, it all turned out to be hot air as usual and here we are with Horts and McCabe out of the line-up and no one even remotely capable to fill their spot(s). Don't get me wrong. I think our AHLers like Repik and Mattias have great futures ahead, but calling them up this late in the season is grasping for straws. The real frustrating part about all of this is that rumors have circulated that the Panthers might actually turn a profit for the first time in a decade IF they make playoffs. One would think that our GM would do everything in his power to make that happen. Instead he "rents" Bouwmeester for a few months and picks up Eminger which even lowly Tampa didn't want. I'm at a loss for words. This was supposed to be the season I was WRONG and this team actually made the playoffs. It looks like they are choking again as usual and our moron GM is sitting on his hands pretending like everything is going according to plan. Un-friggen-believable. How anyone still has a shred of patience left with this poorly run franchise is amazing to me. You shoud receive an award.

No reason to to think we are out of the playoffs yet. The standings are so close, just look at what one game does to any team n this race. So i still see the glass half full, but more and more i just see a glass with water in it. This team needs major power play help. I dont thik they scored this season with a 2 man advantage. Thats just not acceptable. The 2 goal was a fuke bounce, but it counts so all you can do is move forward.
Im not sure if i understand the want for another forward at he deadline. I understand the need but really at what cost?
And im not counting them out till the last game, it is to close to give up on this team.

Baron is right and now it is starting to show-WE gambled on Bouw and he is playing BAD-Look at his passes last nite-the last one sealed the game-he also dropped the ball with Ovechkin and Crosby.Team does not have enough talent without Horton and McCabe.Martin should have anticipated this and picked someone offensive up.

Not to worry. They will make the playoff. Don't count D-Wade out just yet. Panthers will be fine. They will be in playoff and even go to second round

Maybe you can't pin this loss exactly on Martin, but you can pin the OT loss in Pitt squarely on him. Did you see the shootout lineup? Did you see the difference in talent? Talent acquisition is the GMs job. All year long it's been our system and hard work that has gotten us here. But in these last 15 games, talent will be a major driver for teams that get in ang get out. Sure, we have a system that works (when everyone is playing it), but this team still lacks some serious talent. If we are spent to the cap and so is Detroit, for example, then why is our talent so different than theirs? I'd say that's a legitimate question, wouldn't you?

The bottom line is that the talent level on the team is very thin and the loss of even just one key player can throw off the entire balance. Unfortunately the Panthers are down two guys, though Repik did play a good game as a fill-in. The kid loves to shoot and put the puck on net and that is exactly how he got his goal. Right now the Panthers need to do more of that. Pretty goals are not their speciality. Frankly, I thought they outworked and even outplayed Buffalo most of the game.
