Losing to the lowly Thrashers at home when we were desperate for points is pathetic. Unless they can somehow win their last 4 games which I doubt will happen there will be no playoffs again.

Wasted opportunity and now there are fewer opportunities. And don't look in the rearview mirror, cause Buffalo won tonight and their not out of it. 9th place will taste pretty awful, 10th will be even worse.

PANTHER STUNK TONIGHT -anderson let in 2 soft goals - I was at the game and they did not perform well for a team trying to make the playoffs ......they did not skate until the second period.

This was a team fighting to make the playoffs? HA! Carolina, Pittsburgh, and Montreal play like teams fighting to make the playoffs. All 3 on impressive win streaks. Panthers played scared, non-aggressive, and did not look sharp, especially on those putrid power plays. Bottom line is they: C-H-O-K-E-D big time against a non-playoff team. Stick a fork in 'em is right. Just end this season already.

When I discuss the current NHL climate with friends and colleagues I have often remarked,"Oh, it would be awesome just to make the playoffs.". As of late it appears that being swept, no, make that being ground into a dirty, mucky, bloody, ungodly and unrecognizable paste by any playoff caliber team would not seem so satisfying.

Have to love all the knowledgeable "fans" in here. the "lowly" Thrashers? Anyone know their record the last 18 games? Try 13-5. That includes victories over the Rangers, Habs (both playoff teams on the edge), Flames, Caps, a very hot Canes team, and a Sabres team also looking to get in.

Do us a favor, educate yourselves a bit before coming in here carrying on as if you actually care, have cares, or know even a little bit about hockey.

Don't tell Potvin that. He thinks Anderson should be MVP. As I wrote after his last win, Anderson is solid for 2 to 3 games before he usually starts slowing down. He's a great as a backup, but playing #1 while having to be extremely focused night after night is a whole different kind of pressure. Especially in front of an offense with no claws or teeth.

Always a bridesmaid; never a bride with this pathetic excuse for a franchise. When will people learn that the Panthers will never amount to anything when they have incompetent management at the helm. Martin is totally at fault here and anyone that doesn't agree is one hamburger short of a happy meal. Had Martin fortified our offense with some scoring forwards we wouldn't be losing to lowly Atlanta in a low scoring game on home ice in what arguably was the most important game of the last eight years. We also would have finished-out many OT or shoot-out losses this season that might have given us an edge in the standings. Instead we got to watch this team self-implode again, wither and die as it has done year after year after year after year. To add insult to injury we also are in big trouble for next season. With cheap ownership, no franchise player and our all-star defensemen gone we are in for more disappointment. DeBoer will have even less to work with next season. The future doesn't look bright, but then again we're used to that. We've been suffering through it for almost a decade. What's another losing season right? No high draft picks... oh well. We're used to it. At least we don't have to hoist anything to the rafters after 10 years as a salute to all those fans who have endured this steaming nugget of crap on ice fo more than any other franchise in the NHL. At least Columbus fans can finally end their playoff drought and look down on us as the worst the NHL has. As for Florida, it looks like another looooong summer followed by more empty promises, useless hype, fleecing fans, embarrassment and disappointment. I'm so over it already I've just come to expect it from this crappy team. They might be crappy, but they are still MY crappy team. When someone talks about the Panthers I say "yea, they suck... but we're used to it" and just laugh it off. At this point we should start a new tradition of hosting non-playoff parties. We can sit back and watch other teams battle for the Stanley Cup while we ponder what it would be like to actually make the playoffs once in a decade. What a wonderful dream it would be. To bad it's just a dream.

None of you know anything about hockey! Anderson was incredible last night, he made Broduer and Roy look like Pee-Wee goalies. When Anderson plays next game you'll see me in the crowd in my Anderson jersey and yelling M-V-P! M-V-P! after each save.

Oh well...I guess we had it all wrong because Realist says so. Atlanta is a powerhouse team and we just didn't know it. Realist you really are a neophyte. Any knowledgable hockey fan knows that when a team is out of playoff contention they tend to play far better and win more games. No pressure and few expectations translates to spoiler hockey with more wins. This was the same case for the Panthers in seasons past when they tended to play better and win more when they were eliminated from playoffs. I remember this because Rah!Rah! fans would try to use this as springboard for next season believing that this is how the team would play. Fat chance for that. Atlanta still sucks. They just don't care and that's why they won last night. Florida sucks too, but they cared too much and played too stiff. Uninspiring hockey and lack of offense cost them big time. Anyone can see that, but I guess you were too busy wiping the spilled Koolaid off your jersey with a Tide pen.

you panther fans make us islander fans feel better. our season was worse, but aI like the direction the islanders are going with the youth movement. Lets have our own playoffs. we can have a 7 game playoff for the Stanley (C Panther) Cup!

yes, the Thrashers have been playing really well lately but no excuses Realist. We've heard every excuse in the book the last 8 years already. This is a team that's not going to the playoffs, behind them in the standings and for a change not as talented that the Panthers absolutely had to beat to get in and as usual they didn't do it.

This game was so typical of the Panthers you could see the loss coming from a mile away. They can never win when they truly need to. Once again no goals from the front line players in a big game. They blew a great chance to tie the Rangers with 4 games left only needing to be one point better over that stretch to make the playoffs. Now they need to make 3 points due to having less wins over the last 4. High unlikely.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Virgo

Someone is being headstrong and wilful, and absolutely determined to do what they want. Mercury is retrograde and it's a Full Moon in Cancer with a lunar eclipse all happening tonight! This could lead to some heated discussions and possibly even rows, as you argue the toss back and forth. It might be best to accept that there's very little possibility of reaching an agreement rather than to get locked in a stubborn battle of wills. Besides, you don't want anything to spoil what promises to be a very enjoyable New Year's Eve. Have fun!
