Did you really think they would give the Indians any consideration against a multi-million dollar football empire? Why can't they call them the Pinkskins or maybe the Whiteskins since they are especially ruthless? When was the last time this government showed the Indians any consideration by honoring a treaty? Heck we here in Virginia can't even get the tribes federally recognized so why would be expect them to get fairness in a trial.

I think everybody knew from the start that Susan Harjo's group was not going to win this case. There's too much money involved. And I suspect the trial was all about dictionary definitions that say "redskin" is a perjoritive vs. photographs of native Americans wearing Redskin jerseys with pride. Since that was a wash, they used the laches theory.
I also think that this wasn't just about the Redskins. What about the Braves? Indians? Chiefs? Warriors? Seminoles? Illini? I'm not saying its right, but that's not just a lot of money, its a lot of lot of lot of money.

How long have the Redskins been named that? Why in 2008 do they bring it to court?

I missed the treaties with the provision that no sports team would use Indian names or the word Indian in the naming of their team.

I would think the Indians would be honored to have a team named because of their nationality. I always thought of Indians as brave, strong people. I guess you always get at least 'one in a bunch'.

A lot of thin skinned people need to grow up and live in the real world. If they called them the Washington Whiteskins minorities would complain it was racist. If they called them the Washington Blackskins minorities would complain it was racist. Is it discriminatory to the people who arrived in San Francisco after 1850 to call the team the 49ers? Isn't Sooners a pejorative name for the people who snuck into Oklahoma to stake land claims? Should Catholics or non-Catholics be offended by the name of the San Diego Padres? Maybe both? Red Sox ... White Sox ... offensive to people who don't wear socks ... maybe some poor people who cannot afford socks. Bears ... Cubs ... Rams ... what about the dignity of the noble beast living wild and free being undermined by crass sports merchandising? Since someone will complain no matter what, let the market decide. Whoever it was that sued the Redskins should be required to pay the Redskins legal fees to discourage this sort of waste of time whining. Maybe since it is July, and the Tour de France is on, Obama (who wants us to learn French) should suggest we name our sports teams for the sponsor (for a fee or course). How does the Atlanta Coca Cola? Not the San Diego Padres, but the San Diego McDonalds (Ray Kroc owned the team when he died). Or maybe the Detroit Fords? The New York Trumps? Think of all the money to be made. NFL, NBA, and MLB uniforms with logos all over them like NASCAR and Tour de France.

Maybe they should ask for a change of venue. The judge is obviously a Redskins fan. How 'bout a trial in Philly? Or Dallas?

Does this mean I can now have an NBA team in Harlem? We want to call the the Harlem Negros. Don't start complaining about it. Major League Baseball still has Negro League Days.

Well not being of Native American ancestry, and not knowing anyone who truly is, I don't know if 'Redskin' qualifies as a slur or not. What I did to research this issue was to ask minority friends each a specifically related question. And here's what I got: -A Chinese friend who would consider a team called the Cleveland Chinks as an affront; -A Jewish friend who considers the Kansas City Kikes to be anti-semetic; -A Japanese friend who thinks the New York Nips is prejudicial; -And a White Anglo Saxon Protestant I know well takes serious umbrage at a team called the Chicago Crackers. I don't know here this leaves us, but I think if I were somehow starting an NFL expansion team today, especially home-towned in our Nation's Capital (Helloooo...), I'd probably not choose any of those, or the Redskins as a name. But that's just me...

I know 3 actual Indians (granted only 3), and not one of them was offended, but thought it was an honor to be recognized by the college. A shame, all the crud going on in America, and we have to hear about this junk...

They should change their name to the Washington Sissies. They could change their colors to pink and white. Their mascot should be a rainbow.
