Doesn't sound like a native american name to me. On the other hand, mothers maiden name is Knode and I'm 50% Delaware Indian. In fact my two favorite teams are the Redskins and the Florida State Seminoles! As a native american, publicity of any type keeps our dwindling minority in the news. Much more harmful than sports teams names are the Dept of the Interior treatment of the native americans such as not paying them for oil reserves that are being tapped on indian reservations. I don't see anyone offering to give back land taken from my native american brothers, so Mr. Fairbanks why is it so important to you, because it's the least of mine! I would suggest that if you really wanted to do something positive for my native american brothers, I would look towards education or technical skills not sports team nicknames!

Can't speak for 'Fairbank'(have no knowledge of his family tree) but his name sounds as Native American as 'Rowe'.

As a proud card carrying member of the Cherokee Nation, I'm offended by the use of "Press" as in The Daily Press...Press would lend one to believe that it was a newsworthy periodical full of information and void of personal beliefs and agendas. I'm going to petition Bobby Scott, asking for his support to force the Daily Press to change their name to the Daily Rag. I find the Carolina Panthers nickname offensive. I know of an entire Native American family that loves the Redskins so much they've constructed a garage shrine in which to watch the games. They painted their conversion van with the team colors. They also LOVE the fat casino check they get every 3 months from their Federally sanctioned tax free reservation casino. This same family's favorite baseball team? Yeah, you guessed it, the Atlanta Braves.
