Newark was "supposed" to shut down in December 2009. The financial meltdown caused them to close us in December 2008. We still had a mountain of hybrid batteries sitting on the floor. Meaning they didn't build all the Hybrids they had planned.

Things change.

Still, Chrysler Group left one possible sliver of hope about the future of the plant, noting that the facility would "remain idled contingent upon volumes."
Workers still active will be offered the chance to transfer to other plants, but just when — or where — is unknown. Under the revised UAW contract approved April 29, each laid-off UAW member will receive one offer to transfer.

If they decline the offer, they will be dropped from supplemental unemployment benefits and only have the right to be recalled if their plant reopens.
Great idled. give us one transfer to a market we don't want to go. We turn it down we lose. Take the money and run, then we need a job. What FUN!

In the end after 610 take the buyout or transfer. I bet they will open up this idled plant.

I really doubt it reopens at all. You guys are going to dismantle and send it up to Warren. Maybe there is hope for the South plant since it is state of the art but, who knows. I wouldn't count on it. Looks like we'll be moving. More waiting. I wonder what their new offers will be. We need 30K to move.

" We need 30K to move."

I'm moving from Newark Assembly Plant to Warren. I got my first $15 K ( less about $5k worth of taxes ) out of $50k. Can't see why you wouldn't get the same.

and people here act like they never saw this coming...right! when they announced slps closing as fast as they did, that opened up alot of eyes. when they announced slpn was losing a shift, that told people that the plant was closing. but no...people still couldnt grasp that idea. now, everybody who thought they could right it out and realizing that they screwed up. an enhanced buyout isnt coming folks. wanna uproot your family to another state? go for it. dont cry when you get there and see that things are different. take the buyout and run. you'll be happy you did

You 2 aren't even worth replying to. We've all known this was going to happen. Most of will relocate for a good paying job and those that don't want to relocate will get a nice buyout. Worry about your own life, if you have one.

And yet, you replied anyways. Relocate where? No plants have openings, but if they did, I'm sure you'll find a way to complain about how they do things different. Nice buyout? Where? The last buyout should have been it for slpn. The end is here my friend. You UAW people make me laugh. LOL

Hi kid, my husband and I will be up to relocate even if they don't have openings. We like to travel. I sit and type on the laptop while he drives to our next location. He says it's to hot in the plant, he wants some relocation money.

95% of us that stuck it out are fully aware of what our options are, and when they spin that wheel and say "dirt, your going to-------" fill in blank, thats where me and my family are going. When that happens, there are alot of folks to move around, who knows. Just prepare yourself, paint the house, clean out garage and basement and be ready. We have plenty of time now till Sept, to be prepaired...

Last Fall the Fiat guys were in and out of the Newark Plant several times looking it up down and sideways. The rumor was that they wanted to buy our plant to build that econo Fiat 500. I said yeah right, they pay us big money to build an economy car - quit dreamin.

Well, now Newark is closed. Fiat got the ENTIRE plate of spagetti for free and the 500 is gonna be built in Toluca.

I'm sure there's still a few true believers hanging on at Newark thinkin they'll be the high senority guys when it reopens. OK, keep on dreamin - dreamers. Turn the lights out when you finally leave.

You make me laugh! That buyout is still being honored dumba$$.No plants have openings? Over 6200 poeple took a package. There will be a place for everyone that stayed here in STL. Last time I checked St louis was not the greatest place to live. In fact they are losing so many high paid jobs that I see a really bad future for STL. What kind of job do you have? I would bet you do not have one. You sure are jealous of us UAW. My guess is you took one of those packages when they were first offered here( 75,000 I think it was) thinking you could get a better job. Now a year later you have nothing. Great move!!! lol
