I think this was all about the salary cap and Routt's existing contract.

Not just the salary cap but the fact that the Al Davis scholarship program is over and you won't be getting big money like that for nothing especially after leading the league in penalties

routt already has a job expecting him somewhere. if he wasn't playing for us and he was a free agent, i would sign him as well. routt's last year here was causing way too many penalties. but, he is a decent player. juuuust a little overpaid.

Well, this is McKenzie's best move so far. Routt isn't a BAD player but he's definitely not worth his paycheck. I like this move A LOT.

Porter, Finnegan and Rogers are all FA's coming up.

plus we got DVD and Chekwa developing......and Chekwa was looking real good at times.

now to get rid of Chris Johnson.....although his paycheck isn't really hurting us too bad.

I expect this year's defense to be a whole nother world. I expect a more modernized scheme rather than man to man on almost every play. Routt was a good player but definatly not worth his pay.
