It is long past time to legalize small amounts of marijuana for personal use. According to this story, government stands to gain $13.7-billion a year from legalization and taxation of this most benign weed that grows wild just about everywhere.

There are far to many horror stories involving law enforcement actions against pot smokers -- and innocent people. Forfeiture laws should be revised or discarded when the offense is simple marijuana possession.

Nixon's so-called "War on Drugs" is a monumental failure that has caused far more damage than benefits gained.

States are competing with each other to see who can have the strictest tobacco laws, but want to legalize marijuana. Does that mean that the smoking laws will apply to pot smokers too or will they get a pass?

It's taking mad violence in Mexico to get legislators to even discuss a common sense law to legalize marijuana? Must be due to all of the old schoolers who still live, vote, and have a voice.

annie ramniceanu, clinical Director at spectrum youth and family services says her agency deals with scores of youths each year whose social development has been hurt by early and frequent pot smoking.(I agree with her and I see it here in elpaso with our youth. It's sad to see so many young elpasoans slowly destroying their neurological and brain functioning capacity to think and to work) yo soy chicano y estoy en contra de las drogas!

There is no correlation between the two. Just dumb people making assumptions.

Where are her studies and the results? What scientific journal did she publish these results in? I would love to know so I can read it. I would like to know what she thinks of all people who went to high school in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and until about 5 years ago. We are adults now. Many of us tried marijuana when we were in our teens. So far, I have yet to see three generations of people with neurological problems due to pot smoking. Please do us a favor and not post rubbish.

This is just another example of John Crook making another bonehead decision in not letting that city council member, whoever it was, to not bring up the topic of legalizing herb, supposedly to not embarass the city. Someone else went ahead with the idea, and now it's all over the papers and the news. Missed the train, again.

Like it or not many people like to blaze, but this whole political correctness BS has almost everyone burying their head in the sand on this one. I think it's 4:20, again!

I agree that Pot should definitley be legal. However, our Federal Government is controlled by corporations that have lots and lots of influential lobbyists. If Obama is worried about "upsetting" the insurance companies with universal health care, what makes you think he (or any other politician, especially local.lol.) would stand up to the Prison Industrial Complex while undercutting the AMA by making an extremely safe medicine available (sorry paxil and all other poisons they push on TV.) Bottom line is Prison is big business and so is Pharmaceuticals. Legalizing Marijuana, as rightous as it seems, will NOT happen until we change our current system for the good of the people.
