I hope he heals up really fast. And there's always the press-box. These type of injuries, with the right therapy and listening to the doctors can be overcome. But one must also remember that if you push yourself to extreme limits, you may do more harm than good.

To answer some questions, I have a relative whose an MD and I have suffered knee injuries. Loved the proctologist comment, and what if I was? Watch what you say, it may come back to haunt you in the end.
