Buddy Ryan was a egomaniac nut. Genius defensively, but he could divide a team just as easily. He also had no clue about offense which was displayed when he was head coach in Philly. His big offensive strategy was to let a play break down and have Randall Cunningham's improv save the day. And nobody came at him during that game against the Jets. He walked right over to Gilbride and tried to clock him.
His son Rex, if anything like his father, will be a great source of entertainment. |

I lived in the Philly area during Buddy Ryan's time with the Eagles. He was an egotistical jerk who loved himself to death. That also came out when he was given the Cardinal job and stated that "you have a winner in town". To the contrary, he was a defined LOSER who just loved to see himself in print and use his radio talk show for self-promotion.
He was, and I suspect still is, a first class dope. I would be willing to bet you'll see more of the same from his son. |
