No extension now
Saint Paul, MN

Charley is wrong. Chilly needs to win a playoff game or two in order to get an extension, no matter what Charley boy says. If the Vikes win the division, as it looks like they certainly will, and then lay a big egg in the playoffs . . . the season would be a waste and Chilly wouldn't deserve an extension. Simple as that. Don't be premature, there is no reason to extend his contract now.

I think that it's time for the Chili-haters to give it a rest, and admit that this guy's not a bad coach. He's grown into the job pretty well, as has his staff. I just have one suggestion for Childress: to improve his popularity with the fans, he ought to take some public speaking lessons and then start doing a Coach's Show on TV. Every previous Vikings coach had a weekly show, and it would give him a chance to show his personal side and connect with the fans.

This is not the time to extend a contract. Klink needs to prove that he can win in the playoffs. He also needs to show that he can select and develop a young QB; something he has been dreadful at doing the last 3 years. When Favre retires we go right back to one of Klinks hand picked QB,s. Lets hope Favre hangs out for one more year.

i am indifferent if klink is extended. what must not happen is Maturi or his perversion of a protege the Huckster getting extended or coaching a single game! the Huckster ruined deckers career and life costing him millions of dollars, could'nt coach a dog to eat a steak, and is a suspect alchoholic aka tipsy timmy. maturi is the head rodent who has done nothing right! Tubby hired himself. FIRE THE HUCKSTER!! FIRE MATURI!

I would wait until next year to think about extending his contract. I am not convinced he is yety the "real deal". One good season is not a reason to extend his contract.

Short and sweet Childress is not the worst coach but i would rather have Gruden running the show for the next few years look what he did for Oakland and Tampa while he was there.

Vikings fans are among the dumbest in the league. Look - Childress has earned an extension: 1 - Team improving steadily (6 wins, then 8, 10, and now on pace for 12 or more) 2 - No more Tice ticket scalping scandals, Love Boat, public BJ's outside the bars, wife beaters, Whizzinators, and repeat DUI'ers 3 - They are among the least penalized teams in the league, a true mark of discipline 4 - They are second only to the Saints in points scored, despite all the bogus complaints about 'dumb play calling'. How can you complain about scoring more points than 30 other teams? 5 - Childress has the BEST track record of ALL current coaches on talent evaluation -- prove me wrong on this! Year in/year out, people have called his acquisitions risks or sure busts. Those players include Adrian Peterson (supposedly fragile, and with a bum shoulder at draft time), Percy Harvin ('bad character guy'), Jared Allen (one screw up away from a long suspension), and several others. Look at his draft success: Under Tice, 4 drafts, 29 selections, FOUR players left. Under Childress, 4 drafts, 24 selections, 17 of those players still with the team. Under Tice, in just 4 short years, they had NINE picks in the first three rounds who are no longer on this roster, and most aren't even in the NFL!! The breakdown on those wasted picks: 3 firsts, 3 seconds, and 3 thirds. It's a MIRACLE this team isn't totally in the tank right now after the worst 4 year span of drafting and free agent signings in team history. It's because of Childress and his staff that they've already rebuilt a high caliber offense: Childress' four #1 picks have yielded Chad Greenway, Adrian Peterson, Jared Allen AND Chad Sullivan via traded picks, and now Percy Harvin. That's the league's best RB, a linebacker who will compete for a spot in the Pro Bowl this year, the league's best DE, and now, this year's likely Rookie of the Year. Anyone who doesn't recognize that replacing Childress means changing up the whole personnel department as well is dreaming. New coaches bring new staffs. NOBODY in the league has done as well as the Vikings in that area over the past 3 1/2 years. Give the man the credit he's due.

I wouldn't give him an extension. Any knucklehead could run this 10 win team if AP stays healthy. Vikes have all the tools once Winfield heals, to make a Super Bowl run, I'm worried Childress will screw it up.

"Any knucklehead?" so why need a new coach and coaching staff? to start over? Meaning this team is good enough with a supposedly knucklehead coach OR a supposedly SUPERSTAR coach and that mutes your point!

childress is not a good coach. he cannot manage the game very well. He's a great coach outside of the games, bad coach on gameday. RUN THE BALL when you are up by 11 late in the 3rd quarter. Learn basic mathematics with clock management and you'll be fine with me.

Man, I don't know. Where will this team's offense be if Favre finally decides to stay retired next year? The only reason Favre is here is because Childress refused to bring in an actual quality starting QB for the first three years he was here. Until Favre, Childress handcuffed his QBs (including one with 15 years experience and a Super Bowl ring) and tried to force feed TJack down the team's throat, even when it was obvious that he wasn't ready. So who does the team bring in next year? Any career backup? I sure hope not. Furthermore, like it not, the only reason Childress still has a job is because six teams were stupid enough to pass on drafting Adrian Peterson. The Vikings wouldn't have been anywhere near .500 in 2007 without him. I'd still like to wait and see what happens during the last eight games and in the playoffs. The Vikings should be sitting at 10-1 entering December. If they can gain a first round bye at stay out of the cold-weather cities during January, then I like their chances. But if Favre starts malfunctioning like he did last year, all bets are off. Don't get me wrong, I like the rest of our roster, and I think Childress, outside of the QB position, has done a good job along with the front office of putting together a top-notch roster. But I don't want to see anymore of this idioitic apporach of Childress bringing in a pet project QB who he doesn't trust with the football. That playoff game last year wasn't just an indictment of Tjack failing under pressure, it was also an indictment of Childress's miserable handling of the QB postion. This team would be no better than 5-3, and maybe 4-4 without Favre this year. Wise up and bring in a QB you can trust with the ball, or draft one of the top QBs in next year's draft. But spare us the small college unknown 'gem' who Childress thinks he can mold into the next Donovan McNabb.
