Why do these idiots in the media keep bringing up the Steelers when disgruntled headcases or convicted dog-torturers become available. These are NOT the kind of people the Steelers sign. That's why they're able to contend year after year after year--because they don't sign the Larry Johnsons of the world. And why would they even if Johnson wasn't a head case? They have Mendenhall, who has twice the upside with none of the psychoses, and they have Mewelde, and they have Redman still working out athome and waiting in the wings (Parker is of course on his way out).

Even though Johnson is not a psycho as Vick has been in the past he would have to be a much improved person and stay that way for a while before the Steelers would ever consider him. I think that Jeff Reed is starting to wear his welcome out and he generally is not a whacky as LJ.

Why would Coach Tomlin discuss Larry Johnson? Its a non-issue. The Steelers do not need him. First off, we have a good crop of RB's with Mendenhall establishing himself, Mewelde in the 3rd down role. And as much as "Tentative" Willie Parker irritates me, when healthy he's not a bad back up in the least. Plus we have a reliable Carey Davis if we need him in an emergency role, and guys like Redman on the practice squad.

Secondly, we don't need a head-case. Throughout the Noll-Cowher-Tomlin era, the "Me Me" guys tend to quickly find their way out of Pittsburgh.

Third, if he were to come here...who does he take carries from? I certainly don't want to see Mendenhall and Moore lose a few carries a game so a disgruntled 'has-been' can get 3 carries in a game.

Its a non-issue. Tomlin doesn't need to discuss it.

Pats are the most likely team. Fred Taylor broke down, and I don't think Jiggling Bill is that sold on anyone else they have there. He always thinks he can work his magic on scumbag malcontents and make them solid professionals, so look for the Pats to give it a try. Steelers won't touch him for the reasons I gave above, and AZ basically follows the Steelers philosophy. I don't think the Colts would mess with introducing a volatile new chemical into an undefeated team, but Philly is an interesting possibility.
