Having followed "Z" for the past four years or so, I believe that he could be a starter today on over half of the NFL teams. Remember, he finished first or second in most of the combine events he was entered. Todays NFL quarterback must be very mobile and present a constant threat defenses to run. Plain and simple, having an eleventh man on offense to cover removes one defensive back from your recievers and opens up more opportunities. And, covering Doctor "Z" will not be easy. His 4.5 speed combined with his extreme quickness will allow the offense to hold onto the ball much longer as he will keeps the drives alive. Many probably remember his 85 yard run from scrimage a couple of years ago in which he ran away from the safety and corner. This will also allow the defense to get more rest, catch their breath and work with defensive coaches to correct any errors. In addition, the opposite is true in that the other teams defense will tire out quickly trying to contain or catch "Z". If you watched his one pre-season performance for the Texans against the Buc's, most of the offensive team were either second and third stringers and in most cases those that were about to be cut from the team. But, if just one of his receivers, particlarily the 17 year veteran would have hang onto the ball in the end zone "Z" would have engineered one of the best comebacks in pre-season. The Texans coaching staff all agreed that "Z" is one of the toughest quarterback that they have seen. Plus, he has all of the tools. They just wanted to take a chance with only two quarterback on the roster. I noted that many NFL scouts and coaches at the combine refered to him as a younger Garcia with more speed and talent. As an old Steve Young and 49er fan I would really like to see them pick him up. Defenses are just too good in todays NFL for most of the Alex Smith type quarterback. The NFL will soon learn that in most cases those type of quarterbacks present a good target and motivation for defenses.

Z would make an immediate impact for: Atlanta Miami Chicago Carolina St. Louis San Francisco One of those teams needs to get smart and pick him up. He could run Atlanta's offense better than Vick.

Z was cut from Houston's practice squad a short time after the preseason ended.
Anybody heard anything else on him?
I know they had him introducing the offensive and defensive lineups against Nevada...

Houston tried to sign him to the practice squad when Schaub was injured but Z wouldnt sign unless he was on the active roster. Pro sports are set up such that if the investment in the player is to low it takes forever for them to get a shot (if ever) regardless of talent, but if they can increase the investment the team has in them they can increase their opportunities. This was extremely evident when Schaub was starting ahead of Rosenfels. Baseball is worse but football has similar issues.
Anyway, the teams listed in my earlier post could still use Z and he would help them immensely even this late in the season. The qb Houston picked up witll just be fresh meat for the practice squad grinder.

What is going on? Weinke to San Francisco, Lemon starting in Miami? Wake up out there! Zabransky would be a better choice by leaps and bounds in either one of these situations. Not to mention the other 6 teams with awful QBs.

Um, yeah...where is our favorite QB??? My husband and I are both looking around the net for him... Z! Where the heck are you! Your vast supply of Boise State fans are missing you !!! Yeah - I watched a LOT of NFL this season, and I agree that there are a half a dozen teams out there that would TOTALLY benefit from Z and his legs - not to mention his arm and brain! The NFL is demonstrating a lot of stupid if they let Zabransky slip away. GO PACK GO this weekend!! And Feb 3 for their next game! ha ha ha ;-)

I love the Broncos and I loved watching Z. Hell, I stood up for him every off season when alot of people wanted to hang him out to dry for his bowl performance.
However, I only see one way into the NFL for Z and that is the CFL. Statiscally Z is great. Mentally he lapses... 1. 2004 bowl game, Louisville, throws an interception with seconds left in the game. 2. 2005 bowl game, Boston College, throws and interception with seconds left in the game. 3. Georgia. 4. Fiesta bowl, although he was the hero remember he was also the cause a hero was needed. Interception with less that 4 minutes to go in the game losing the lead. 5. Senior bowl, throws interception losing the ball, lost the lead, lost the game.
Final score: Z good game ending plays: 1 Z bad game ending plays: 5 - Not too many NFL teams will look highly upon that. Z needs to attach onto a lower than NFL rated team and prove he can make better decsions. Until he does that he will continue to be a guest announcer for ESPN when they come to Boise.
The last I had heard of Z he was moved back to Boise. I heard he was becoming a realitor in Boise waiting on a call for the NFL. I had heard he had no interest in the CFL or areana football. I believe he would easily take the Boise Areana football starting job. Just my opionion.

He just signed with the Steelers, should be on their site or in the news tomorrow. 1. Hail mary because they ran out of time do to the coaches not managing the game well, plays werent coming in. 2. Force a bad pass after leading the team over 60 yds in less than two minutes. 3. Payton Manning through 6 interceptions in a game this year Z had 4 in Georgia. 4. They won. 5. Do those "bowl" games count? 6. 33 and 5 He is much better than any qb on the teams I listed above.

Hey dont get me wrong, I love Z. I think he was the best QB to come through Boise St(by the end Coughlin has a chance to be better but I am not sure yet). I just think he has weaknesses. Yes you defended every remark I put up, but the one thing you cannot defend is the bottom line is Z is 1 and 4 in big games. And when winning is the big stat out there it is hard to compete. Another thing to point out is out of 33 wins who were they:
2 Utah St 4 Idaho 4 Louisana St. 1 SMU 1 Tulsa 1 Sacramento St 1 Weber St
I would be willing to bet alot of 1-A QB's could throw a high winning pct. with this line up.
Anyway, the coach Metz backs up my side of the story anyway. This quote was taken from the Idahostates man:
Said Metz, who has more than 20 years of NFL experience: "At the minimum, he's the equal of a number of successful quarterbacks in the league. Sometimes it just takes time to get it right. That's the one position where you have to be patient with guys."
I was trying to make my point that Z is a great QB, he just has decsion making problems. To make it in the NFL he would need to find a patient coach to work with him.

"Z" man sucks, he could not even make it with the worst team in the NFL. Second BSU sucks, they play online schools....Weber state....what a joke, oh wait the whole WAC is a joke, they should never pull a BCS bid, but Hawaii took care of that for them.

Wow, spoken like a true hateful person. Dont worry, who ever you are; just because the Broncos wouldn't give you a scholarship to walk on doesnt mean you will never play college football. Try the Vandals, they suck... You suck... Theres a match made in heaven!!!

1 and 4?
1)Louisville 2)Georgia (Not sure this one counts because it was nonconference early season, but it would have been a huge win for a program like BSU) 3)Boston College 4)Olkahoma
I only come up with 1 and 3. Agreed, it could have been better. I'm not saying he is a hall of famer, just that he is better than; Alex Smith, John Beck, Byron Leftwich, Rex Grossman, David Carr, etc. from the teams I listed above. He did make mistakes, force the ball, miss receivers from time to time. However, his junior year is when most of this happpened (only one loss in the other 2 years) and he had very little to no experience in his receiving core. His tightend dropped 2 out of 3 passes thrown to him, Nanee ran horrible routes, James struggled and Raab was drawing double coverage. Not to mention BSU only ran well if the passing game was opening things up. A year later with experience and the rebirth of his tightend and they go undefeated.
If you want to know how much defenses respected Z compare Ians numbers this year to what he had when the defense was schemed to stop Z.
Then look at my post in September below and you will see that I predicted Ian would have an off year because he would not be getting the "easy" yards at the 2nd level.
