The chief also praised Moats and his family for how they handled the officer's behavior.

"They exercised extraordinary patience, restraint, dealing with the behavior of our officer," Kunkle said. "At no time did Mr. Moats identify himself as an NFL football player or expect any kind of special consideration. He handled himself very, very well."

Asked at Thursday's news conference what officers are trained to do in such a situation, Kunkle said even someone with no police training should have known better than to do what Powell did.

"I don't know how you train for these circumstances, other than to hire people with common sense and good people skills," he said.

Cops will never just let you go because you yell at them, it works just the opposite. Cops also really don't care why you broke the law, it's not their job to care. They have heard every excuse in the book as to why they need to let a potential bad guy go.
Any time a police officer is approaching you with his gun drawn and he is yelling commands at you, do what the heck he tells you to do. If you choose to escalate the situation from that point, you flat out deserve to get shot.
The cop exercised proper restraint.

The Dallas Police Chief - as well as anyone with half a brain - disagrees with you. Additionally, the ticket this unthinking, "gotta go by the book" cretin issued has been dismissed.

You can cram your head back up your *ss now.

He should have his gun and badge stripped aways, how insenstive of him, this officier has no feelings inside of his body, when Moats told him what was going on he should have escorted them to the door without incident. This man didn't get a chance to goodbye to his love one and that is something he will live with forever because of man.
They’re more and more o call-police officers who behave on the streets like they're Lord of a Whole Living-- simple Nazis!!! This bustards is one of them. He should be of the Force forever.

What you say is probably true. It is also very probable that your mom, sister and grandma do as well. Or at least did. You also spelled sister wrong.

Newsflash to the people hating on the police:
There are people that lie to the police. Second, how the heck does the police officer know what is going on in the car or who he is pulling over.
There was an instance where a car was driving erratically through red lights, cutting people off. When the police stopped the car in a HOSPITAL PARKING LOT, there was a dead gang banger in the car (gun still in the car) who did a drive by that shot another banger and subsequently got himself shot and died on the way to the hospital.
You just don't get it, you never will.
Joe!!! Just shut-up or will arrest you, tow your car and...whatever I want to do...

I expect a lot out of our police officers. We pay them well. We educate and train them. They can retire with full pensions at 55. We must take care of them.

In return I expect professionalism. I expect quality split second decisions. I expect officers to treat ALL citizens with dignity and respect. I expect compassion when necessary and I expect the use of force when necessary.

I am a 54 year old white male. I seriously doubt that had I been driving exactly as Mr Moats and had reacted exactly as Mr Moats that I would have been hassled at all. This is a punk cop and needs to be fired. I would NOT want him on my local police forct.

FIRE the cop!!!
Just fire the cop!
To all the other real police officers out there, this is the kind of mess that "SOME" of your piggish arse fellows lay upon the public. This dog, Robert Powell, should have been excluded from public safety duty during the hiring process.

I just cried for this family after viewing and hearing the entire exchange. SHAME on the pig Powell!

Just like the African Immigrant who got 44 bullets because some white officers thought(afterthefact) that his cell phone may have been a weapon. Or, the black man celebrating his party before his wedding the next day in NYC when undercover white cops bum rushes the guy's in a car an open up with 50 bullets killing the Groom. It goes on an on. The problem is most white folks go along with this BS and stand by their race even though if a Black or Asian or Hispanic officers put 40+bullets into a white man they would have a fit; and, there would be retaliation against innocent citizens black, asian or hispanic by white cops around the country. America has a Double Standard. The Premise is White Skin in white peoples' heads mean Superiority over all non white races. It means whites are always right. They should always be president, boss, ruler; they always know everything. All non whites know this is pure hog sh$$T.
Two of the detectives charged with shooting the poor guy on his wedding day were black. Get your fact straight before you go off on a racist rant.

The police chief is acting in his role as politician. I do agree that he appears to have half a brain as, most likely, do you.

The part of this story that the article failed to mention is that he blew the red light, then failed to stop when the cop lit him up. That is a felony. The rules all change for a felony traffic stop.

But please do me a favor, the next time a cop comes up to you with his gun drawn and he's yelling commands at you, tell him off, right then and there. Better yet, grab your cell phone from an inside pocket.

If stupidity had a monetary value attached to it you'd be a billionaire.

Listen, little fellow, you shouldn't attempt to pontificate on anything more complex than your bowling average, as it's abundantly clear you lack the prerequisites for particpating in discussions that call for intelligence, education, logical thinking and/or common sense.

Please report back to your cave.

Fortunately he was a pro football player. if he had been anyone else he would have been beaten half to death. That's how those ignorant redneck Texican cops work with minorities. Just look at Paris, Tx and the other little town near the border where the cops pull people of color over and legally rob them.

You people just dont get it. Try being a cop for a day or better yet just ride with a cop for a day and see what they have to put up with on a daily basis. I have done many ride alongs. These brave men and woman are out there protecting our lives on a daily basis.
Here you have a traffic stop where many occupants exit the vehicle and start yelling at the cop. The fact their in a hospital p-lot has no bearing on the issue. This cop has every righ to protect himeslf and to be able to go home the same way he came to work (un injured). The occupants demeanor sets the tone for the entire incident. The cop was only doing his job.
Yes after the nurse and security staff verified the occupants story maybe he should have allowed the occupnats to go inside.
The fact is he did not and who are we to monday morning quater back this officer. He was on scene alone with many occupants screaming at him, they set the tone.
The fact the police chief spoke against his officer before the investigation is complete is absurd. The police chief ought to be fired for speaking before he knows the whole picture. Politics at its best!!
"...Try being a cop for a day..." well-so don't be one, nobody force you..

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Taurus

Get involved in financial transactions at your peril under today's Lunar Eclipse, because certain people will use them as a stick to beat you with. For instance, if you ask someone to lend you money they'll either make you feel guilty about it or dredge up all sorts of past instances when their trust was betrayed. You would also be well advised to avoid any show of possessiveness or jealousy, even if you feel it, unless you truly don't care about the disastrous outcome.
