It all depends on how everybody acted. Depends how everyone acted? Not everyone is going to act the same, the drive is rushing to the hospital, some of the passengers are in desperate need to get to the hospital and the officer is not knowing what to expect when the car pulls over. You can do better clarence or your new name is bullet barney

He should have his gun and badge stripped aways, how insenstive of him, this officier has no feelings inside of his body, when Moats told him what was going on he should have escorted them to the door without incident. This man didn't get a chance to goodbye to his love one and that is something he will live with forever because of man.

This is awful.
the cop was on a power trip, plain and simple. even AFTER the nurses were telling him that yes, his mother in law was in fact DYING upstairs, he continued to delay.
doesn't matter if it was an NFL player or a random family. still wrong, still should be reprimanded, still despicable.
This i why i say ACAB.

The hospital security guards told the cop about the dying mother-in-law... the nurse also came out and told the cop it was true... and the cop replies "im almost finished"? What a piece of %^$# cop... what goes around comes around!

Newsflash to the people hating on the police:
There are people that lie to the police. Second, how the heck does the police officer know what is going on in the car or who he is pulling over.
There was an instance where a car was driving erratically through red lights, cutting people off. When the police stopped the car in a HOSPITAL PARKING LOT, there was a dead gang banger in the car (gun still in the car) who did a drive by that shot another banger and subsequently got himself shot and died on the way to the hospital.
You just don't get it, you never will.

Is the RED or REDNECK This woman rushes out of the car and the officer sees this, normal reaction possible police standards is to draw the gun. Did you pay attention to what happened in Oakland last weekend fuzz-nuts? You may not like the gun pointed at you and neither would I, but drawing the gun is the least of the issues here. So sit down and stop rep;ying to everything unless you have something real to say

And 2 cops died in california last week during a traffic stop. Everone seems to think they can justify bad behavior. This police office has the right to protect himself, and go home at night.

This guy has been begging for dismissal for months.

How many people lie to police officers: Tons How many people intentionally run a red light to get to a hospital and lie about it: hmmmmmmmmmm

SOMETHING IS WRONG LET THEM GO !! ITS A HOSPITAL !!
That pig should be fired regardless of racial profiling.

He'll have to let you go for fear of a lawsuit and dismissal!!! Good to know that you're every bit as horrible as those "big bad black people" who you so openly hate.

It's obvious most of you have not read the entire article or watched the video.
Funny, this is the only site i've visited that has dumba@@es siding with the cop.
Chicago is racist to the core, even as cops are robbing and stealing from white people they will continue to back them as long as they continue to treat minorities like crap.
You would think Chicago was a city in rural Mississippi with the mentality on exhibition here.
By the way, cops don't come to the rescue or prevent most crimes; they most often arrive after the crime has taken place, look it up!

There were hospital staff and even a nurse out in the parking lot explaining to the cop that his mother-in-law was indeed dying. What more proof should there have been...the actual corpse?

I've been a law enforcement officer for over 25 years and have heard many many excuses. Some of them are whoppers.
If the Dallas PD officer was adamant about giving him a ticket, then he could have. I'm not familiar with the rules and regulations of DPD, but if they are similar to the ones I've been following, the officer had other options. 1. He had Moats' drivers license and car, therefore he could have let him into the hospital and either wait to write the ticket or write it and have Moats pick it up. 2. If the DPD rules require Moats' signature, then he could have called for a supervisor and explained the situation to him and delayed writing the ticket. or better yet 3. Not be so disrespectful and condescending to Moats and let him go with a warning.
Under the circumstances I saw on television from the officer's video camera, if it had been me, I'd have chosen option #3.
We're supposed to be professional in our demeanor and I don't believe the officer was...based on what I saw. Maybe there was more information unavailable, but unless there was, this officer used poor judgement.

Chicago mom wrote: I saw the tape, and I have to say that perhaps if they had not been shouting and screaming at the officer, he might have been more willing to listen to them. They have my deepest sympathy, but I'm certain that if they had also handled the situation a bit better, things would have been different. I know that white cops have a prejudice against black drivers, but this guy got out of his car and played right into the stereotype. Such a sad story, at least the daughter managed to make it in time in the end. I agree. I too watched the whole tape. The young man immediately started to argue with the police officer and was not complying with his requests. His own actions created part of the delay.
