OH no....not another professional athlete not given VIP treatment. But here are my questions:
1) How many speeders make up excuses (i.e., lie to the police) why they "had to" speed?
2) How does a policeman tell the difference, on the spot, between a liar and someone with a legitmate reason to break the law (wait a minute...is there a legitamate reason to breaki the law, speed and risk the lives of innocent people?)
3) How does a policeman tell the difference, on the spot, between a distraugtht person and a drug crazed madman ?
4) And another thing, last I heard breast cancer does not strike without warning nor does the "end" come out of the blue. If they were so converned with their mother's health maybe they should have been at her bedside all along.

All I see is a police officer doing a very difficult and dangerous job and another celebrity claiming special treatment. Wah wah wah. I'm more concerned with the policman's saftey than someone who's out partying until the last minute before Mom passes on.

Oh, the compassion. I agree, this wouldn't get any kind of press if it hadn't happened to an NFL player, but what this officer did was wrong. Yes, Moats ran a red light at midnight when no one was around. But to pull someone over in a HOSPITAL PARKING LOT for running a red light?? Watch the tape - the officer never asked what the problem was, or if there was a medical emergency.
This cop was a bully, and he got caught. Now he's on paid vacation pending an investigation.

OK white people, this is how black people get treated. We will never understand because we can not walk in their shoes. It is such a classic example of why black's hate the police.

I have several police officers in my family and among my friends. Without a doubt most police are decent people that have an over developed sense of right and wrong. But there is a dark side (no pun intended) of police work. They simply do not screen candidates enough. This guy is a nut with a gun. Ten to one he has a personnel folder full of complaints for roughing up people. But of course that will never come out unless he is charged due to confidentiality. Moatses', this white man is sorry for your loss and this inexcusable situation.

When even the chief of police has to show restraint in his choice of words in order to "remain professional" when talking about this cop's conduct, doesn't that give you badge-backers even a split-second's pause?

Cops are somehow infallible by virtue of their being police officers? Jesus, you people are the same people who let Hitler take over Germany... "He's got a title, clearly he is better than the rest of us."

You sheeple make me sick. Hopefully you'll catch the blunt end of the nightstick the next time officer hardon decides he wants to fck with you next because he can.

The officer was doing his job. The guy ran a red light. If the officer wanted to be a nice guy he could have let the other occupants of the car while giving the driver a ticket. It all depends on how everybody acted.

TO RED: There was a time when a family had a medical emergency they drove to the hospital with whoever had a problem. The police man would actually lead them to the medical facility if he saw what was happening. Likewise, this issue is the same. In America today, this is becoming all to common between law enforcement officers and citizens. Our rights are being abridged. I am not violent and am getting older. But the law enforcement officers have been militarized and are treating citizens as shiiit. Up to now it has been one way. People in poverty have contempt for them. Although they have plenty of blame on their lifestyles. Middle class people are being fleeced by some of these law enforcement officers as they are being nickeled and dimed to death with traffic tickets, DUI's, recreational drug use, etc., etc., etc. I know people in some counties who have kids caught doing drugs and are not violent get caught in the system, not follow rules as they are immature, and get their lives destroyed and their families pushed to near poverty to pay the growing law enforcement fascist state apparatus. Red, one day there will be retribution. Perhaps you will rant how free we are. The Chinese are chuckling and Osama bin laden is laughing his ass off.

JIm8349 -- dude, watch the freaking video. He pulled him over IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE EMERGENCY ROOM. Hospital personnel came out to VOUCH for him! He was quite clearly not lying. This is despicable and I hope it haunts the officer to his grave.

Your compassion really shows, did you read this article or are you just assuming the guy deserved to be treated like this? I hope you never have to go through what this guy did and lose a loved one without being able to say goodbye. This really is a case of driving while black, I don't if this was a white person the cop would have acted like that!

So why should the police officer believed the NFL player? Was any proof offered? People come up with all sorts of excuses to avoid getting a ticket. For all he could have known, this could have been yet another case of rich people believing the laws don't apply to them.

Note to all gang bangers, next time the police stop you for breaking the law just bring some female bangers with you. When you stop your car everyone just jump out and start screaming and crying in ebonics then cry racism as the lone officer doesn't know how to deal with you. He'll have to let you go for fear of a lawsuit and dismissal!!!

I saw the tape, and I have to say that perhaps if they had not been shouting and screaming at the officer, he might have been more willing to listen to them. They have my deepest sympathy, but I'm certain that if they had also handled the situation a bit better, things would have been different.
I know that white cops have a prejudice against black drivers, but this guy got out of his car and played right into the stereotype. Such a sad story, at least the daughter managed to make it in time in the end.

After reading this article and a corresponding report on another news agency, there seems to be a difference here than simply a NFL player not recieive your "VIP" treatment. The nurse was out there telling the poolice officer that the mother-in-law of the NFL player was literally on her death bed. In fact they blue coded her three times in order to keep her alive so the family could see her before she passed.
The fact remains that the nurse (a person entrusted to save lives) was telling a police officer (a person entrusted to protect life) that it was necessary for this family to see their loved one before she died. In my opinion I don't see the difference between running a red light for this, to running a red light with a pregnant women in labor in the passenger seat.
This officer is showing not only a complete lack of judgment, but is showing a complete lack of upstanding character and compasion. I feel sincerely sorry for this family in mourning.
