DHILDRESS KNOWS FAVRE CAN THROW DEEP IF NEEDED but as long as we can win who cares. Just play the game to win and favre knows a lot about the west coast offence. WE CAN DO IT ALL THIS YEAR GO VIKINGS.

The Vikings were 0-2 at this time last season and went on to win the division. Patience, people.

there are many reasons why the vikings have not been going deep much. both teams have been stacking the box and blitzing LB's and DB's constantly, trying to get to favre. so farve is doing a good job of getting rid of it quick and taking the yards given. also, BB is still only on his third week with favre and they seem like they were just starting to get a little timing that second half. Bernard is our deep threat, but until he and favre are on the same page, favre is going to probably pass on that look. third, we have not, in the least bit, needed to make a big play on offense in either game. our defense is solid and will make plays and our run game is solid, so our passing game just needs to move the chains on occasion. which is exactly what it did. i could care less if favre throws a 65 yard touchdown and will take the win and no mistakes any day. favre: 37-48, 265yards, 3td, 0int, 110 qbr.

Bevel's play-calling is the problem. We don't necessarily need to just plain throw deep, but a little creativity out of the gates woud be nice. Why does it take a supposedly super bowl-caliber team an entire half to figure out how to handle the pass rush against the worst team in the league? Their pass rush is getting to Favre, so Bevel just calls more vanilla running plays?? How about rolling Favre out or keeping an extra blocker in (TE/HB) or utilizing the screen pass to slow down the rush? Should it really take three straight three-and-outs to make these necessary adjustments?

Who cares if the Vikings are last in passing?? The bottom line is they are 2-0 and I will eat my words about Favre. He has done exactly what they need to do to win.

Well put, creativity would be nice, to be fair it is still early in the season and we have a soft early schedule, they might not want to tip their hands this early on.

IMO the first two "slow" first halves (followed by dominant second halves) come down to two things: 1) Poor initial offensive scripting. It's not keeping anyone on their heels, even poor teams. 2) Playing desperate teams that will literally empty the chamber in the first half to come out ahead. I'm not worried yet, but certainly SF is going to be a much better test as they have been doing well to finish games so far. I'll take the 2009 "conservative" Farve over 95% of the QBs in the league right now though. You can't help but notice he's looking better every week.

I totally agree with what you are saying. Favre just needs to run the offense efficiently and take care of the ball. That means keep feeding the ball to AD and keep the chains moving on 3rd down. It is going to take a bit of time for Favre and Berrian/Harvin to work out the timing. No need to force things when you have a stout defense. I think they are doing what they need to do. The slow starts are a bit of a head scratcher though. Hopefully they overcome this and start putting up some points early.

We had our "creativity" on the first play of the season: an inexplicable on-side kick we didn't recover. Throwing screen passes to negate a blitz or heavy pass rush, and rolling the QB to one side of the field to avoid same aren't "creative" counters. They're basic football. Start using ALL your weapons, Vikes, not just our superstar. Skol Vikings.

The gameplan and offensive coordinating for the Vikings simply does not utilize a vertical passing game in any real way. "Looking for balls up the field" but "we just haven't done much of it yet" is not an actual gameplan. The Saints PLANNED on throwing the ball up the field against Detroit. Detroit KNEW the Saints would throw the ball upfield and tried to stop it. When Brees "looked to see if they were going to give him something up the field" he found open receivers and hit them. Is Brees that much better than our $12M Favre? Are the Saints recievers that much better? Why is Brees finding open receivers upfield against a defense that is actively trying to stop him, the same defense we faced that was more actively trying to stop Peterson? BECAUSE our head coach and offensive coordinator DO NOT scheme and gameplan for a vertical passing attack. They have very little interest in breaking down defenses in a way that will REALISTICALLY allow our talent to exploit upfield defensive systems. They never have and they never will. If we can win a Superbowl with teams constantly stacking the box with eight or nine men and working the short passing game ad nauseum, then fantastic. But as soon as we face a stacked defense with a prepared and creative coordinator, we'll find out how lacking that strategy is. Unless Chilly's strategy is to start Favre slowly before opening things up, then I'm afraid we've got the most expensive ball-hander-offer in football history.

You have to give Favre a "A" for his management of the game. No INT's, only a couple of muffed handoff's, involve all the receivers, plus his willingness to throw a block, he is doing what a QB should do, take what he can take, and not try to be a superhero quarterback. The first two games have seen major blitz packages by opponents and overall the offense has handled them as well as possible. I think it is silly to worry about deep throws this early in the season, particularly when you have a stallion in the backfield who can break one on any carry.

Hey I am glad we are 2-0. I am glad that we did not have to hold our breath until the last few plays to see if we could beat the lowly Lions (like last year). BF has not had an INT. We have not gone long because BF has not had the time to do so. He has not been with the team long enough to throw those high arching passes that get thrown 2 seconds after the snap long down field because he does not have the timing down with BB or MH on long timing routes. Say what you will this team misses Birk. Not that Birk never gave up a sack, but BF would have been hit a lot less this year if he were at Center. In the second half we shortend our splits and ran a 2 TE set to protect BF. This is not to say that Sully is not doing OK or that he is a bust, but BIrk now is better than he is NOW. I would have doubled the offer they gave Matt. Perhaps that would have persuaded him to continue to put up with Brad Childress.

You know if they allow BF to air out the ball and he throws a bunch of pics, the same people will be wondering why we didn't run more. BF has not been with the team that long, but is looking better every game. So, just have some patience. As long as BF is taking care of the ball and taking care of AD and moving the chains, he is doing his job! Something Tjack could not do consistently...

It's not that he has to throw the ball long on a consistent basis, just take a couple shots downfield to keep the defenses honest once in awhile.
