history lesson -
1969's 1-13 record was bad, but apparently was not bad enough. Their only win of the season had been against the Pittsburgh Steelers, who ironically also finished 1-13. In January, a coin toss was held to determine which team would pick first in the NFL draft. The prize in that draft was Louisana Tech quarterback Terry Bradshaw, who would be a welcome improvement to either of the clubs.
Bear executive Ed McCaskey called the coin toss, held at a hotel in New Orleans, and lost. An unidentified Chicago sportswriter reportedly yelled out "McCaskey you bum, you can't even win a coin flip!"
After losing out on Bradshaw, Chicago sent its #2 pick in the draft to Green Bay for three veteran players, none of which remained with the Bears for more than two seasons.
---- With Angelo's track record, let's hope history does not repeat itself !!!
Terry Bradshaw was not great, but won!
and we were a coin flip away ...
WHO CARES ... WE GOT CUTLER BABY.
and all you negitive about it ... talk to me at the end of the season; otherwise i don't want to hear your whinning. You are fool if you do not think after 4 seasons this guy will blossom in Chicago. HE does not need great WR. He needs a solid running game and our Defense to play to Chicago Standards. He has shown he can throw the ball. Let's be real here ... he is the brightest future this Franchise has had since Sweetness established himself in the College All-star Game in 1975.
Come on ppl, we are 8-1 odds to win the SB. Las Vegas knows wassup.
As I recall, they were Jim Ringo, Elijah Pitts and a linebacker, Lee Roy Caffey.

Interesting comparison of Cutler vs. Orton:

http://www.gazette.com/sports/orton-58210-sea...

If Orton stays healthy, he'll have a good year. If Cutler gets better receivers, he SHOULD have a good year.

I'm concerned that Cutler won't get the tools he needs, the guy likes to fling the ball!

Otis,
not sure what your worried about. The W/R we have will be fine. Cutler is good enough to make me look good. Good passing makes everyone play betterl it's just how sports works. Do you think GBay had a lot of talent over the years. Vrett Farve made below average running backs look decent.

Comparing Orton to Cutler is meaningless; it is how the teams plays to a whole new level we've never seen in this town.

Give it a chance, I'm a little tired of hearing the problems at W/out. WHat I am hearing and seeing is we are going to surprise a lot of people. And they are scared too.

You have an athlete in DHester. Now you have someone that can hit him deep; there is no secret to what the Bears will be able to do this year. And it will be freaking ppl out. We are going to tear up this l;eague.

Sweet.

Hey, thanks!! Here's my thinking:

a) Culter is used to tossing the pig to some REALLY good guys, but our WR last season showed a lot of butter fingers (even Olsen). I think Forte was about the best receiver we had if I remember correctly.

b) If Culter can't get his air-time and Turner elects to run, run, run, I could see Cutler losing his temper with this gig.

c) he will also need a lot more protection than Orton had last season, a few good sacks will rattle this guy.

We won't know until we know, will we? However, I SHALL be mighty pissed if Culter turns out to be Wrecks Grossman Part 2, and Orton flourishes under a new team and improved coaching!

Fuggit, GO BEARS! Have a great weekend!2654

Oats ... I can respect your worries, but, that is all they are.

Why is everyone making Cutler out to be some psycho case.

If your Cutler, wouldn't you love a huge running game. Wouldn't that just mean "lights out when he went to pass"?

If you are last years receivers, don;t you think you were somewhat frustrated not getting the ball when you were open? as far as butter fingers, J.C.'s passes will not allow these guys to do anything but be ready.

Watch some film of JC at Denver, fe can move in the pocket. Did Orton move, ever step forward? huh? Orton's at best a good backup, JC is a PRO BOWLER. Can't ignore this. He wants to be a Bear. Attitude means leadership. He wants to achieve here.

Time to stop worrying about this, and just watch as the greatest show on earth unleashes a new era in CHicago.

Bears got a steal in Cutler. It is still an amazement he'll be wearing a Bear Uni this season. No way anyone would have put money on that ... i hope he's here for 10 seasons. We deserve some stability at that position. And I don't spank a gift horse in the mouth ... Jay do your thing, and leave all those in doubt to whine... because truly those of us who kind of have been fans for a long long time know this is going to be a season like no others.
