No, it was more then the lack of "one" great WR. And also Rex&Orton had to go...they were awful. |

While alot of good points have been made, and speculating can sometimes be fun, a single game this season has NOT been played. If you want to speculate wait till preseason.
Jay will prove himself sure enough, and take command of the squad just as Orton did. What he does from their rests on him, but so far so good in all aspects from the preseason program and transition to Chicago. I'm not very concerned about getting Burress, I'm actually a little more worried about picking up a distraction. If the Bears have a decent record after a hypothetical 6 game suspension (4-2+) there isn't a point to play him. If they were just losing tough games, I'd say he'd be worth it. You can't really tell until the season is too far in and it's a risky gamble at best if you try to categorize it. However, while it's risky the dividends Burres could pay are great. But I still look at it as a blind 6. I still believe that Cutler to Hester, to Bennet, with Forte, Olsen, D. Clark will be enough to back teams off the line and move the chains to setup the bigger PA pass. How the execute from their will really tell all becuase that's when it counts. While having another DYNAMIC player at WR would be hands down the best bears team on paper in a long time time, at least comparable to 85 IF they lived up to it and won the Super Bowl. Tick tock, tick tock. |

Folks seem to forget that Marshall was 4th round pick. So he had to work his way up to his NFL stature.
I say give these rooks a chance. Perhaps we can get a gem from the rough stones(WR's) we drafted. Plus we'll be minus all the "presumed" headaches that entails the other 2-(more established) guys. This team is moving forward... Me likey :) |

I don't know what we're yelling about!
I understand the excitement of most fans with all of these offseason moves but come on people. The Bears do not need Burress or Marshall. You want to bring headaches to a team that's on the rise? The rookies will step up, Hester will be much improved from last year and their RB and TE positions are solid. The O-line has been upgraded as well. The Bears last year went 9-7 with a underachieving defense, weak offense line, QB who had a hard time connecting on passes over 15 yards and WR's that were undesirable. All of that has been upgraded, so I'm pretty confident with this team going into the season and can't wait to see them crush the Packers in GB to start things off on our trip to the Lombardi Trophy. And it would have been very likely Cuter could have gone to the Vikings? Could you imagine facing that team while battling for a playoff spot. Cutler, AP, Berrian, Allen vs Orton and our wanna be WRs? C'mon. We got Cutler not because we did not want Orton, but because we did not want him to go to the Vikings. |

Maybe we can live without Marshall and Burress. Maybe the guys we have will become household names under the guidance of Cutler. All will be revealed as the season gets underway.
As for now, the momentum of this offseason will carry us all the way to the wild hass season opener and beyond. The Bears rule the universe! |

Slow learner, he's been a WR for exactly how long now, how yeah 1 freakin year. A full time receiver for one God Damn year. Give the guy a chance, he will surprise you. I believe with every fiber of my being that this will be a dynamic and very potent offense with or without additional help @ WR. |

Hauugh,you are something of a kind.keep referring to this off season as one for the ages without a single game played yet and to cutler who has been in the league for only 3 years without any special accomplishment other than making one pro bowl.you are clearly clueless about chicago sports because cutler playing here as compared to denver is a whole other ball game.besides with a mentor like ron turner who is probably the worst offensive coordinator in the league is not very promissing.if the bears struggle in the upcoming season I just hope the city doesn't turn on him quickly and instead ger rid of turner which is long over due.remember all the greatest QB's in nfl history have had some offensive genius as their teacher.montana had bill walsh,favre had holmgren,aikman had norv turner,elway had shanahan and I can go on for ever.and trust me this defense is no 85 defense or even 2005 defense to carry this team with all the aging players like urlacher and tommie harris who has never been the same since his injury and true emotional leaders like mike brown gone.I just can't wait to see how you would defend your bold declarations that you are making now when the team stinks it up in the regular season although deep down I hope that won't never happen

The one thing that will ruin my buzz quicker than a dive in Lake Michigan in the middle of February is to have these Bears coaches pluck up this golden opportunity by not having the skills and or balls to make this thing work.
This is not the time to be conservative. Let this big rocket armed Pro Bowler run wild with this offense and pray the defense can follow suit. I'm not worried about special teams. NO RULES !!! |

If denver had a r-back or a defence in 08 would we still know eddie royals name? if orton was in denver all along would we even know brandon marshalls name? cutler played for a year with un-diagnosed diabetes and still was better than both bear QBs.I want to see whos name everybody knows after this season

Well that's all fine and dandy, but you missed a couple of very important factors. Number 1: i believe cutler has a stronger arm, and more accuracy than orton did. considering all we have are guys who use their speed to get open, that comes in pretty handy immediately and we can still easily get a great 2nd rounder next season. and as for the short pass, that's why we have guys like matt forte, greg olson, and let's not forget desmond clark. number 2: like i said, we can still get a WR next offseason if need be, but a probowl quarterback is another thing. Let's not forget rex Grossman was a first round pick, 22nd overall. that paid off real well. number 3: drafting a wide reciever in the first round. in the last 8 years, only 9 of 37 WRs Drafted in the first round were probowlers and many just sucked. |
