Yeah Anonymous, you are gonna catch **** for that. Did you watch any games over the past two years? I want to say that at least five times Devin Hester got a good 5+ yards of separation and then Orton made a terrible throw. Or how bout when Berrian had about 7 yards of separation against Minnesota two years ago and Orton just badly underthrew him and Sharper came out of nowhere to pick it off. Orton was a decent game manager and great at throwing the ball less than 15 yards, but that doesn't cut it in the NFL. Far more often are bad WRs made too look good (see Eddie Royal, Jabar Gaffney, Devery Henderson) by good QBs, than good QBs are made to look bad by bad WRs. I bet you're going to see Cutler make some big numbers for Hester and some other WR. My dark horse pick right now: Brandon Rideau
But back to the article, I don't want either of these guys pushing their egos on Cutler as he tries to mature and become a leader. I think we have a good young group that has no sense of entitlement right now. That can be a good thing.
What ego ? Burress's teammates loved him. I'd say Anonymous's comments show he WAS watching the games. If you think the Bears are going to beat out the Vikings without a big WR this year you're whistling past the graveyard.

we beat them once last year at Soldier Field even when the defense laid a big fat dookiepie. Until the infamous 4th down FB dive (I swear to god I am going to commit a random felony if I see that BS playcall again this year) we were doing OK against the viqueens in MN. Since we got some decent tackles to help keep Mullet Allen out of the backfield along with the other offensive help I think we will do just fine in winning at least 5 out of 6 division games.

Saying this, I would love nothing more at this point than to see Burress wear the orange and blue this year and I hope Angelo makes it happen.

I forgot to add that Hester is most definitely going to have an outstanding year if Cutler stays healthy. Hester in fact dropped very few passes that were thrown where he could catch them. I liked Orton as QB but his errant long ball cost the team several easy TDs. Chances are very good that Hester will have some quality fantasy stats this year.

You guys, Chicago has cap room for both. Incentive laiden contracts with charactor clauses, and just who in the heck could stop you? Hester, Marshall, Burress, Forte, tight-ends, and Bennett, and back-ups, and draft picks. Oh and I forgot, CUTLER. Your defense would be exhausted because you'd score so fast they wouldn't get a break.

Let's not forget 1 thing Cutler will be able to do that Orton could not on a consistent basis.

1. Keep a drive going and not put our defense on the field as much.

Hey - I thought Orton was a decent QB but who does not want Cutler?

Some of these fans are never satisfied - I bet that you are the same people that complained that we don't have a QB in CHI. Now that we do - you complain we gave up too much. Typical unsatisfied Bears fans! Keep in mind - this is the first bold move we have seen in years! Hopefully it is just the beginning!

Let me ask you 1 question - Who would you rather have with the Bears down by 4 with less than 2 minutes in a game....Orton or Cutler?

The Bears MAYBE should consider Burress after the league decides how many games he will be suspended. Then they should only consider signing him after the suspension is done. They should not give up a high draft pick for Marshall in any circumstance. They drafted a number of receivers this year - let's see what they can do. If they do nothing more, the receivers will still be better than the last few years.

Bear fans I was watching the Stallworth situation because it will definitely affect Burress.
While I think Stallwoth was wrong as "Peter Cotton Tail on Christmas" for being intoxicated while driving thus hitting, and killing someone I do not think he is a bad person he just made a grave mistake the same could be said for Burress.
That being said I wonder what the commissioner may do as far as a sentence is concerned. Because if he gives Stallworth 6 - 8 games he has to give Burres at least 4 - 6 games. I would expect his agent to appeal and maybe 1 to 2 games is remanded by the union.
If my theory were correct, I would sign him if I were the Bears on this possibility alone because missing him for four games want hurt as much as six to eight. Give him an incentive base contract tied into games played and it is a no brainer.
The two cases shouldn't be compared. Stalworth, for one killed a guy while Burress shot himself. Next, Stalworth stayed at the scene, fully cooperated with LEOs, got the legal issues over with asap and manned up to his crime. Burress hid and ran as much as possible, even trying to convince the ER staff not to report the GSW to the police, which is in and of it self a crime. And finally, Goodell will suspend both, but Burress has already been suspended 5 games by the Giants. So when Burress does get convicted, and he will, then he'll get suspended. That's the key though, when he gets convicted. And even then the 5 games he's already served will be taken into account.

Stay away from the criminals and the idiots. With an offense that keeps the defense off the field for more than half the game the Bears should be fine.

HAAAAY!!!!
Orton was the best Qb on our roster last year. Given that, Cutler is a major upgrade. I've read all offseason how badly Orton under threw Hester and other wide outs, but if my memory serves me, he over threw his WR an awful lot as well. Orton doesn't have Cutler arm strength, but he still has a good arm and was able to sling the ball down field. The only problem, and it's a real doosie, is that he wasn't accurate with those passes. If he hit Hester on any of the multiple passes he either over or under threw, then Hester may have had another 15 receptions and 300yds. Now Cutler brings an elite arm, terrific accuracy and above average mobility. Good trade for both sides and either way JA goes with Burress this O will be vastly improved from last year.

I am going to get shit for this but whatever. This was the problem with the Kyle Orton trade. They gave up their first round pick for Jay Cutler. The reason the Bears didn't make the playoffs had nothing to do with Orton. In fact I would Argue that Orton and Matt Forte were responsible for them getting 9 wins. The reason they didn't make the playoffs was because they had a terrible defense and no real offensive weapons for Orton outside of Forte and Greg Olsen. Think about how this team would look with Jeremy Maclin on it. As someone who saw him play in college I can tell you that he will probably be a Pro Bowl receiver and returner. People like to forget that through the first half of the season last year Orton was one of the best QB's in football. He got hurt and the Bears rushed him back. It was pretty obvious that he struggled because he was hurt. Another reason he wasn't as good as he could have been was because he didn't have shit to throw to. When Devin Hester is your number one receiver you have problems. While I think he could eventually become a solid receiver last year was his first complete year as a wide receiver. It showed as he dropped a lot of passes. In fact before his injury Orton had a higher QB rating than Cutler. Just think about the numbers Orton might put up if he had the kind of receivers that Cutler had last year or if he had that offensive line. I hate that Bears fans and the media were talking about Jay Cutler like they finally got "real QB" and now everything is ok.
umm no...the only thing that made orton not look like a train wreck was forte. You can build around Cutler (hopefully) your not gonna build around Orton with as much potential success. In other words the future looks alot better now then it did with orton.

Hey Rick,

I'm sure you're right...who wouldn't love a team mate that doesn't show or show up late for team meetings, practices at half ass speed, and carries a "me-first" attitude?

Kreutz would kill Plax...

i agree with alot of people on here. orton was good, but not great. he had good stats before the injury. but orton is not a long ball player. i remember quite a few games last season when they would break the recpetion percentages down during the game and his down field passing for more 25 yrds or more were rediculously low. in fast speed, no huddle situations, in the closing part of the game that accuracy is something that is needed.

im sick of everyone bitching about the maturity of Cutler. What the media has fed us was nothing more than celebrity gossip. further more we dont ever really hear about the other side of the story. adding the new coaching staff and suddenly bringing cassel in. im sorry but anyone would bitch to if your job was in suddenly in jeopardy too. he had the right to complain about that. he was the starter for 3 years, and suddenly because McDaniels comes in he thinks he can create another patriots team in denver? when you put up numbers like cutler did in denver there shouldnt be any doubt about his maturity. drop it!

Now the Burress and Marshall deal. forget marshall 13 reported times the cops have been called on his behalf. but with his prema donna attitude hes not going to realize what hes really worth. at most with consideration of numbers he put up, hes worth a 2nd round and league minimum for his group. and i say minimum taking in account how much trouble hes been in. based on a one year trial, then renegotiate. but his agent and him wont see it that way.

Fianlly as for Burress. same thing one year contract, based on personality and work habits league minimum. i personally would want to see him here rather than marshall. between the two burress seems like the better choice.

one more thing anyone else really sick of this "Yes man" attitude by lovie? this year in year out im happy with what we got.

Nice post Mike: I agree with avoiding both Burress and Marshall! You dont just reach for a guy,so you have a brand name to feel safe with. I surely wouldnt reach for these two choices that are criminals and repeat offenders. The Bears have built a really good locker room with this team, they have great attitudes and respect each other. No way we break that up over one position player. We Are Not That Desperate! We have a good team of players right NOW. Take care fellow Bear fans. BEAR DOWN! GO BEARS,2009 DIVISION CHAMPS!

Hello fellow Bear fans: This is a perfect year with everyone starting fresh,to evaluate what we have already. We did draft these guys to play for us. Since there really isnt anything out there 'Yet' at WR this year, except criminals like (Marshall,Burress),which we dont want,no thank you. We have a great chance so see what we have in these Promising young players who have really stood out so far! Cutler is really happy with what we have,he knows what he has and will make these receivers good! It has been the W.R's that have stood out the most so far in OTA's, All of them!! I am totally excited for this season. I cant wait to see our New look Dominant offense! Plus I cant wait to see our Hungry Defense back to Monsters this year. Plus our special teams are always good. So I look forward to us clicking in all 3 phases this year. The Bears will win the division at 12-4. The Packers improve to 8-8,but are adjusting to a new scheme that takes a year or two. Then the Vikings Will fall this season & go 8-8. This will not be a good year for them. Their Q.B's are bad as well as the receivers! They lost an anchor on their line in Birk, plus Sharper! Their secondary will be even weaker & the special teams will remain bad. Plus the Williamses suspensions. This really will be a downfall for them this year and Childress gets Fired! Then the Lions improve to 5-11. Take care fellow fans, sorry to ramble. BEAR DOWN! GO BEARS,2009 DIVISION CHAMPIONS!

Plaxico was nothing when he was at Pittsburgh which is the reason they got rid of him. New York until the Super Bowl was trying to get rid of him as well, because he doesn't practice, he was always suspended or fined, and then the idiot shot himself in the leg. Now Chicago talks about him like he is Jerry Rice. The desperation of a Bears Fan is being seen in its true colors. LOL

Cutler will make our receivers better, but getting another receiver would be a good move.
Hester has speed, but is a slow learner and has physical limitations, i.e., he is short and fumble prone.
What honest bear fan wouldn't like to see a more honest to goodness prima dona physical specimen split out wide?

What were you saying after the first half of the season last year? Seriously I am sick of the Jay Cutler wankfest. He is a talented guy but the fact of the matter remains that the reason this team didn't make the playoffs was because they didn't have a real number one wide receiver and their defense was awful.
