Colts tag TE Clark as franchise player

Unable to reach agreement with Dallas Clark on a long-term contract, the Indianapolis Colts have taken the necessary step to retain their veteran tight end for at least the 2008 season.

I hope we can sign him to a multi-year deal. The thing I like most about Dallas is that he is always the first guy celebrating with the person who makes a big play. He is very much a team player and he's not bad to look at either!
Woohoo D. Clark

I couldn't agree more. The Colts did this to James a few years ago, and then he left the following year. The Colts need to come through for a guy who deserves a multi-year contract. I'd absolutely hate to lose Dallas. Dallas ROCKS!!!

Dallas Clark is a must have for our offense. I like Dallas alot and I hope they can come to some kind of long term deal. The one thing that concerns me about him though are the concussions. They are dangerous to a long term deal and most of all, dangerous to him. I would hate to see him get many more. 44 is the ultimate team player who represents our city well.

I'm hoping the two sides can come together for a multi-year deal as well. I can't picture a Manning-lead offense without Clark in it.
Love him

I am soooo glad Dallas is signed for at least another year. He is a good player, who epitomizes the "working class" mentality of the NFL. A walk on at Iowa, he has really shown what can happen with determination and guts.

Plus, I bought his jersey this year and never got a chance to wear it. LOL I would have been bummed if he hadn't resigned.:)

Dallas is the best. It was a slap in the face to him not to make the Pro-Bowl.

What a crazy world in which we live. People can't say enough nice things about Dallas Clark, who will return to earn 4 MILLION dollars, and at the same time can't seem to find anything nice to say about the hometown girl Katie Douglas returning to play.

They will come to a long term deal I am sure. They know just how valuable he is. The reason edge was let go was because he wanted a massive contract and the team knew they could get just as good of a player in the draft. Polian knows what he is doing.

LOVE THE COLTS! I'm a season ticket holder. WIth all that being said something is bothering me that no one is mentioning. The Colts are notorious from building from within, not overpaying, and being very young right? So how are we going to build from within if we keep paying top dollar to every key player that comes along each year? Love Clark (and his alligator arms that pop up at bad times). But we signed Freeney and Sanders to mega deals. We locked up Wayne. Manning and Harrison have huge deals. Addai will be requiring some serious coin. Who would you rather have? Addai for the long haul or Clark? Got some sad news for people, Clark will probably be gone after a year or two of franchise. Is he on the same level as Gates or Gonzalez in his prime? If you answered no to that question you got your answer on whether he will get the long term. If you answered yes, your crazy. What if Manning was throwing to Gates or Gonzalez? Wow the numbers. The sad truth is that Manning and our offense make the TE look good. See Marcus Pollard before Clark got here and when Manning was getting good and then the rest of his career. There is your proof.

I friggin love Dallas Clark and I am very happy to hear that the Colts have "franchised" him and that they have him for at least one more year. However, I won't get my hopes completely up until they lock up a long-term deal. It's nice to see that the front office knows where the talent is, and are locking up all of the key players that will give them a good shot at making another run at a title. Dallas is so important to this offense and I hope that he remains a Colt for a lot longer.

Great to see you in a Colts uniform for at least one more year Dallas!!!!!!!!!! GO COLTS!!!!!
