There is no such thing as "the greatest" or "best". Each has their own unique circumstances. Their unique teammates: defense, offensive line, backs, receivers....; as well as opponent defenses of their day. Also a really great qb could play for a terrible team and forgotten. Someone mentioned Archie Manning to this respect. This is not to belittle any qb and their accomplishments. There simply is no "the best".

Some people are risk-adverse and others are more risk takers.

Favre, despite his INT record he has less INT per pass ave. then Elway or Aikman and is barely higher than Marino.

Typical dopes buying the Marino, Elway, Montana hype. Guess who beat all three to go to the Super Bowl? That's right; Jim Kelly. No, he didn't win one, but he kept pretender Marino pouting and yelling on the sidelines (and the original "Jaw," Shula, during the prime of each of their careers. If Marino's ego wasn't so big, he would have had a running attack and maybe could have beaten Kelly's Bills when it mattered most.
And, whoever put No-Knees Namath on this poll is an idiot.

The greatest is a transitory thing. Right now the greatest is Peyton Manning. I don't know what tommorrow will bring.

when its all said and done, Peyton Manning will be the best qb to ever play the game if he stays healthy and continues to play as well as he has.

After thid season I'm sure Tom Brady will be on the list and I think he should be right now! Man he's got three SB's and he's only 30 years old.

really not a fair question . In my youth Terry Bradshaw was the greatest. While in the service Joe Montana was the greatest . During my first wife it was Troy Aikmen . During my second wife it was John Elway . Now with this fine dime piece i got now who thinks i'm going to marry her its got to be Tom Brady . But if i can get with the cute redhead across the pond Peyton Manning will be the greatest .

I vote for Kerry Collins. Nothing like checking out those 90's clips of Kerry flinging the ball down the field to Rae Carruth. If Rae hadn't been sent to the packing house, they would have won some rings. Now Rae is wearing one from his wife Frank, and Kerry is seeking a job with the NAACP.

Today it has to be Peyton Manning, all things can change. He owns the record books at this time and has a long career ahead if he stays healthy.

peyton manning plays in a dome, whats his record outside in the eliments, cold, snow rain ect. With Marvin Harrison, Wayne, and the whole offense he has in this pass happy league with rules to match hsi numbers are almost average in this day and age.Favre who is ancient comeparred to alot of guys will have comperable numbers and Brady will have better numbers.

Yeah, I don't even want to get into the "system" argument.
I'll keep it simply as this:
a great defense takes a ton of pressure off the offense to be superb and take a lot of risks.
And if that team also has backs and receivers...
and also an o-line which can pass protect...

Regardless of what system an offense has, if there are a decent number of great players, they are going to make each other and the team that much better.
