ive seen with my own two eyes a female American Pit Bull Terrier(registerd, with papers, boarded, trained, loved, and cared for, well bred, well mannered and had "never" snapped, family had children for christsake) that CLIMBED a 4 foot chain link fence, crossed a four lane street, and was actually intelligent enough to OPEN the GATE(a very smart dog!!!) in the yard across the street and then proceed to SLAUGHETER 3 beagles(full grown male and female and one pup). AND when the dagcatcher arrived she just walked right up to him waggin her nub of a tail, like she's just the frendliest thing(like she always acted) panting from exhaustion with blood dripping all the way down onto her paws. the whole attack took place in under 2 minutes. the beagles family had just moved into the neighborhood 3-4 days prior, and the American Pit Bull Terrier had been in the 'hood for about 6-7 months and had a litter of pups approx 4 weeks prior. NOW.....
mjr and John R and Maraty please explain why this happened just a REAL answer please

Maybe the kid bit first and the dog was only protecting himself. I hope the kid had his shots. Poor little dog.

It was always, and still is, my opinion that aggression breeds aggression. I'm glad your child grew up not hitting anyone. My dogs have been with me since they were puppies. I began, day one, teaching them right from wrong. They are well adjusted, lovable animals that do not fear humans, but know I am the leader. Now ages 7 to 9, none have ever shown aggression. I don't hit them, never have, and probably never will. I have NEVER had to hit my dog. He knows better. I have sent him to school for training. My cat is just naturally sweet. I have had to pluck him once or twice, mostly for hissing at the dog. But, nothing major.

Just shoot the dog in the balls with a bb gun. If it's male or female squirt alcohol in it's eyes. No further problem

Im glad the boy bite him! We need more children to bite dogs. Then people who own dogs will keep them put up! Around here,if your dog attacks someone it will get shot! One man here fended off a dog atack with a gun. And the dogs owner came back and shot threw his home. Needless to say the dogs owner worked for the sheriffs department! After that, he and his wife(she was in on it) lost their jobs! You see the dog attacked his wife and children! Anybody who fends for a dog who attacks people are sick! I myself will shoot any dog who tries to atttack my family. I have no problems about with this!

NOW..... mjr and John R and Maraty please explain why this happened just a REAL answer please What happened is very sad. I have dogs of my own but I’m no Cesar Millan. Dogs (unless taught to be aggressive) are usually aggressive because they are territorial, defensive, or sick. You mention this family had children, no other pets? If the dog was in a neighborhood, most likely, there were other dogs around that she didn’t bother for months? If both answers are yes, that should rule out a usual ‘dog aggression’ problem. You stated two NEW things. The dog had just had puppies (defense); the Beagles were ‘new’(3 to 4 days) to the surroundings (territorial). My guess is, one of the two, or a combination of the two brought out the aggression. She wouldn’t know about 4 lanes of traffic, only that something new was there and threatening her pups. Dog aggression varies from dog to dog and usually, if someone is paying attention, there are early warning signs. Any dog showing aggression must be socialized with other animals and trained even if it will be an ‘only pet’. It is up to the owner to keep an aggressive dog on a leash, away from other animals. When outdoors the dog should be behind a tall, secure fence, and never left unsupervised. With each story of any dog attack, I read,“it just happened”. I think the owners didn’t notice signs, or maybe the dog was sick. Just as experts cannot know for sure why some humans ‘snap’ and go in shooting innocent people, they can’t know why some dogs ‘snap’. The reason the dog went up to the dog catcher is because Pit Bulls are not human aggressive. If anyone else has an idea, I’m certainly intersted in reading. Maraty? John R?

I used obedience training with my first dog and just refer back to what was taught with the new pets. I still have to call on a friend who runs an obedience school from time to time. My cat, is a differnt story. I'm not sure what to do with her. So far a spray bottle with water in it seems to work pretty well.

Oh, BTW...I have a neighbor who's cat was killed. A lab/shepherd mix darted across the street and killed it in a matter of minutes. Why do people accept that aggression and not wonder why? That's just one of those burning questions I have that goes unanswered.

[QUOTE who=" mjr and John R and Maraty please explain why this happened just a REAL answer please[/QUOTE] When a dog attacks for no apparent reason: Believe it or not, not only do un-socialized, and wrongly trained dogs attack. There are certain medical or psychological problems that can cause a perfectly trained dog to become aggressive toward other dogs, other people, or even toward the owner himself. Some female dogs become aggressive, growl, and even bite after having given birth. Usually this defensive attitude is produced by maternal instinct and it normally stops when the level of the female dog's hormones goes back to their normal state. There are occasions in which a female dog attacks its own puppies because she feels threatened by intruders. If a female dog becomes bothered by people being near her puppies, the best is to leave her and the puppies alone. Some breeders take the puppies from the mother and take care of the puppies without the mother. When a female dog reacts in a violent way, it's best not to allow the puppies near her again. There are occasions in which a dog attacks for no apparent reason. It's possible the dog will attack another dog or a human with no warning or by just looking at the person or dog. A few seconds later, the dog will go back to his normal state and become docile, that is until it happens again. The causes for this type of behavior maybe be pure hormonal.. Just like a human woman who just gave birth.,It could be related in cases of dogs that are extremely dominating. “Any time you have a female in heat, or with small puppies, then that dog should be kept in an enclosure and away from children and other pets.” I dont mean fenced in area. I mean enclose area... when my lovely lady had her first pups... I kept her in a encloser... Not that i didnt trust her.. I had NO way of knowing how her being a new mom would react.. Even after the 3rd little when she was much older i kept her in a encloser... I also make sure my dogs are properly introduced to any new pets, people that are around.. Odds are this owners dog had no real clue as to how to treat a new mom... New dogs in her terriority were a threat... I didnt see the attack or after math. Odds are she went for the female or pup first... Female first if the other dog was in heat.. Or just plain because she was a female.. The pup because it was a puppy and not hers.. Survival of the fittest is the key to life in animals.. The male was probably attack afterwards.. One because He was there.. Or two he may of tried to defend the female and puppy.. Dogs dont know size. I hear over and over how well mannered dogs have turned bad.. Just to find out that so called well mannered dog.. Were really training their owners not the other way around. Im friendly to you as long as you do what i want.. Im friendly to you cause you feed me.. You move over when i want space.. You walk me when i want out. They are pack animals.. You can not take that from a dog...Dogs must be given the pecking order at all times.. If a "new" pack moves in and you have a female..Yes female.. They cause more trouble in dogs then Males.. Then if you can be 100% sure she is under controle.. And most people think they are. And are not.. Then you best test the waters...

Have you ever spent anytime with a pitbull, or are you going by the media, cause they always report the whole truth. Pitbulls are great dogs with a bad rap. I've worked for a Humane Society, had many dealings with them. My good friend has 2 pit bulls. I've owned a pitbull. Now, you know you are speaking to someone with pitbull experience, have you ever spent anytime with a pitbull? Do you know that all but one of Asshole Vick's dogs have been rehabilitated? There are no bad dogs, just bad owners...tattoo that on your forehead so you don't forget it!

That's just one of those burning questions I have that goes unanswered. Ok this one is easy... Im very sorry to say.. A dog even a tiny dog is a hunter... Any thing that moves catches its attention... Cats if dogs are not trained right.. Are considered food.. Also a dog natural play.. Im not saying this dog was playing... Can kill a cat.. Dog, watch them while playing,, Bite each other.. Grab each other by the neck, jump on each other ect ect.. You can even get a dog to be less aggresive, just by constently grabbing the fur and skin on the back of its neck.. pretend your hand is your mouth. And pretend your chomping on them.. Not hard to hurt but enough to let them know.. Hey im here and im the boss... Make sure its your dog not some dog on the steet... I train shephs, Ridgebacks and rotties.. So im not a exspert on all dogs.. But i know how to deal with one that is showing agrression.. And honestly i would be the first person to say.. This dog isnt trainable put it down.
