Awww .. just give them what we paid for Manhatten island. (24 dollars worth of beads). Come to think of it, the Hawaiian Islands are 10 times as nice as New York. To be fair, we should give them 240 dollars worth of beads.

I love Akakas reaction to not being able to get a bill out of commitee after all these years. He blames the President for his own failings.

I also think the ignorance displayed by Richard in La Puente is one of the most blatent examples of the simple minded I have ever seen...such a sorry sad little uneducated hydro-cephalic fool will have a very sad sad life.

I'm looking for property in Nanawale Estates but have not visited that specific area. The property values/prices seem so reasonable. Can anyone tell me how this area compares to others on the island? Is it mosty undeveloped or underdeveloped? Are the values affected by the Volcano Park? Thanks much for any info you can give me.

as stated on the side, i'm hawaiian, but i don't like the akaka bill, i mean every hawaiian on these islands like the benefits of america, they complain about what america has done to them, yet they are the ones buying this from abercrombie and fitch, the ones with expensive cell phones, and the pimped out cars...they have nothing to complain about because without america majority of the things we have now we probably wouldn't not have if america didn't take over the hawaiian islands
and milena learn your facts better...hawaiian was TAKEN away, america was threatening with bloodshed, unlike the louisiana purchase, which was BOUGHT, and alaska was also BOUGHT, not taken away...different circumstances, huh milena...
i just think that the way america went about taking over the islands were wrong, but i know everyone in hawaii love what america has been able to provide for us

Racists are relishing the defeat of the Akaka Bill. Those who are ignorant of the history of the USA and Hawai'i speak ignorantly, and need to inform themselves of the true facts of the takeover of Hawai'i by the US. Those who have studied the facts, Americans and other nationalities, inevitably acknowledge that our nation was stolen from us. The crucial question is: Why? The idea that it was done to save the white sugar planters from McKinley sugar tariff induced bankruptcy is too feeble a justification. The truth, as I see it, is that the governments of the USA, in 1873, in 1893 and in 1898 saw that control of Hawai'i meant control of the Pacific Ocean, and that control of the Pacific Ocean, 40% of the surface of the Earth, enabled control of the planet. Control of the planet means control over the trading relationships that determine national prosperity. The prosperity of today's USA is and has been in major part determined by hegemonic control of trade and international financial relationships. Ask yourself: Why is crude oil priced in dollars? Would that fact be so if Hawai'i had not been forced against Native Hawaiian wishes into the USA? Undoubtedly, without control of the Pacific the position of the USA in the world today would be greatly reduced. Republicans, racists and imperialists have fought the legitimate aspirations of the Hawaiian people for self determination for over 100 years. They ferociously fought the Akaka Bill because they saw the bill as a first step to begin to right the wrongs which they have inflicted on us, the native people of Hawai'i.

In a perfect world, imperial powers wouldn't take control of global territory - but they do. If the USA had not taken over Hawaii in the late 19th century, Japan would have done so in the mid 20th century. Sure, its wrong either way, but its been the way of the world as far back as recorded history goes. The legitimate aspirations you refer to may indeed be legitimate - but those kind of aspirations have never been able to compete with military force.

exactly hawaiians complain but they don't realize that it would either be japan or america they just think they were wronged, but actually their probably living pretty good lives, better then they would have if Japan taken over, and even if Japan didn't take over some other major country would have

The good 'ole USA took over and ruined a perfectly good society in Hawaii, thanks for USA pineapple business. I believe Hawaii has a high poverty and welfare rate... highest consumption of Spam. Kinda like the Native Peoples, we shove them into a corner of their own land and take over and mess it up. No wonder the Iraq's want us out.

the only reason why Hawaii has a high poverty and welfare rate is because majority who are on welfare are doing nothing they sit back relax and take the government's money then complain because the US took away hawaiian land...and what about the highest consumption of Spam...nothing's wrong with that, people in Hawaii just like spam, it's good...i don't think people should complain, one because they're NOT getting shoved to the corner of their own land, they choose to go to the corner and two if hawaii wasn't taken over by america then they would have be taken over by Japana or the UK or France so which country would they want to have taken over... America...majority of the people on welfare are probably hawaiians and they're just looking for a excuse to not work because they're too lazy to work or they probably just don't have time to work because they're doing drugs

How many of you have actually read the Akaka Bill? Have you read all of the different revisions of the Akaka Bill? What it was in the beginning and what was denied by congress was two MAJORLY different things. You have to realize that the Akaka bill was a quick fix....one of those wonder drugs that will cure whats bugging you but if you look at the fine print, you see that the side effects may include nasty rashes, stomach cramps, blurry vision, etc. The Akaka bill wanted to treat Hawaiians like Native Americans. We would be put on reservations in hopes to make America look good...because they're giving us something...and to stop the Hawaiians from their constant protests. If you read the fine print, it stated that if the Akaka Bill is passed, Hawai'i will never be its own nation again. We would be considered a native people and would get the benefits of being one, but any hope of ever being our own Nation would have been completely wiped out by the Akaka Bill. Sure you may say that Hawai'i was better off as a part of America but the point is WE NEVER GOT TO MAKE THAT DECISION FOR OURSELVES! I'm sure that no matter how big or small the decision, we would all like to make our own choices instead of having them made for us.

Way to support your people buddy...yeah Hawaiians are the only people on welfare because they're lazy and doing drugs. What a stupid thing to say. There are a lot of Hawaiians out there who are working hard to get a good education and good jobs to be able to make it in todays world. It's pretty sad when a Hawaiian actually believes the negative stereotypes about their own people. Did you ever stop to think that when other people came to Hawai'i, they already knew what it would take to make it in that world. Hawaiians had never experienced what it was to own land, or to work to get money to buy food...of course they were at a loss and people took advantage of that...Kamehameha Schools was opened with hopes of giving Hawaiians a chance to actually make it in the world...,you should know that if you're a Kamehameha student...Change your name, you're making your school look bad!

There are a lot of hawaiians working hard getting a good education, but sadly there are also a lot who are on welfare, in prison, and blaming the US for taking over Hawaii...and hawaiians believe the stereotypes because for a huge chunk of hawaiian people the stereotypes are real...and by the time hawaii was being taken over, hawaiian people knew what it was to own land and to work to get money to buy food...Kamehameha Schools was opened with HOPES of giving Hawaiians a chance to make it but the school isn't giving the RIGHT hawaiians the chance the school is giving the hawaiians they know will make it a chance...and i know this because i'm a kamehameha student alright...so i'm not making my school look bad...i support my school, but i admit my school is not perfect, if they want to win the admissions case i think they should change a part of their admissions policy...so what else have you got to say

Are Pro-sovereign Hawaiians that naive to think that a "Hawaiian Nation" is the cure to their contemporary situation? What exactly are pro-sovereign Hawaiians' plans to not only achieve a sovereign nation, but to sustain it as well? I find it hard to believe that any sane person could put his or her trust in the anarchy that exists among the most influential pro-sovereign Hawaii advocates today. How can we expect these said-advocates to resolve important social issues when they can't even come to an accord over artifacts?

I think that they plan to build a time machine. They will turn time back to the year 1700 and then everything will be allright.

Time machine... nice idea! Next best thing would be to turn the laws back to that time. Give more control of Hawaii to native Hawaiins. And as for the Native Peoples, I'd give them more conrol over THEIR lands too. Is someone took my land and gave me limited conrol I would sit back and do little. American imperialism at it's worst.
