Spotted Girl wrote: <quoted text> Even more appropriate solutions have resulted in the CPS and the cops showing up, like the number of kids who are made to wear signs in public about their misbehavior. A friend of a neighbor told me just the other day about what he did when his daughter pitched a tantrum right outside the school and was in the process of getting her new clothes dirty. He beat her butt right outside the school. That afternoon before he was to pick her up, there was a knock at his door. It was a county social worker. She went on explaining why he couldn't abuse his kids and all. He explained his side of the story and the tantrum she threw, and he went in the other room and came back with a suitcase with some of the rest of the daughter's clothes. When the social worker asked what that was for, he told her that if he couldn't raise his daughter as he saw fit and make her behave, she could take her. That shut the social worker up, and she left. About a week or so later he got a letter from DSS/CPS. Guess what it said? It was a personal letter from the social worker saying that he was probably one of the best fathers she had ever met. Yeah..... The father should have youtubed that!

The former Marine wrote on his Facebook page that Child Protective Services officials came to his home in Stanly Co. on Saturday and interviewed him and his daughter — separately — after viewers of the video called with concerns about his actions. He said the police also stopped by. “The police by the way said ‘Kudos, sir,’” Jordan wrote. "I actually had a "thank you" from an entire detectives squad. And another police officer is using it in a positive manner in his presentation for the school system. How’s about those apples? Didn’t expect THAT when you called the cops did you?” http://www.wsoctv.com/news/news/local/youtube... If there is a bright spot for Jordan's daughter, it appears she has at least one job offer from an ice cream shop in the town of Stanley. The offer was posted on YouTube Friday after Jordan's video went viral.

Of course, if he has a violent stripe, then it is better that he shot the laptop than a living creature. In the old days, the father might would have given her a beating she would have never forgot, then kicked the dog, and then went out shooting at deer, birds, or squirrels to vent.

That is the lose-lose paradigm at work when someone wants to harm someone so bad that they are willing to get hurt in the process.

I agree, raising a decent kid is a mighty tough job. I have just never thought destroying property and violence a good way to teach a child, unless the lesson is to solve problems by destroying and violence and that can't be good. My brother says this guy is just looking to futher his cause and become famous.....he could have taken care of this in private and he chose to let the world see what he is doing. I am just so glad my father found better ways to raise his children!!!

Saw some other links, now down, where Dad was turning down offers to capitalize $$$ on the whole situation, saying that wasn't the Point... He had zero interest in further embarrassing the daughter and was blown away by the publicity generated. A bit hyperbolic on the Tough Love, but I bet it works

The guy doesn't make an 8 minute video, post it on youtube and punctuate it by emptying a clip into a laptop without thinking he might get a bit of noteriety out of it. It's an awful, violent image too, regardless of how one feels about guns. What if 20 years ago a father had read his daughters diary and shot it up? Her young life is surely all about FB and her friends. He shot it up.

Make it a great night! And I agree with you too!!! So many better ways to handle that situation. He used force and anger and violence to make his point and really, what's the big deal.....a teen was blowing off some steam using a social network to talk to her friends. It's the modern way to talk with friends. It's not like she was using the laptop to commit a crime or send nude pics to her boyfriend. Thanks and you have a great night also!!! 1111
