"Motorists often make the situation worse and cause water damage to buildings when they "don't really use their brain" try to drive through the high water, Hurd said.

"It creates wave action that overtakes the curbs," Hurd said. "We're coming up with a proposal to close that area in times of high water."

Five motorists had to be towed out of the high water Tuesday after their car's engines stalled and became stuck. They could have taken a different route or waited for the water to subside"

Thanks for posting the storm pics of South Street.
My only concern for residents in the area would be mold. I hope the local residents that are facing these flooding issues look out for their rights. The town is "now" going to block it off. Come on, every other town in the USA takes precautions and this happened right in front of their eyes in town hall. Give me a break! Welcome to Bennington.

I agree that do make things worse. They simply don't use their heads.

"It has become backed up with debris and trash and overflows its banks regularly, causing water to flow down into the streets."

well it happened again today, The stream flooded out the Old jail (BBC), 6 days after the last storm. Seems that there was plenty of time to clean out that stream and avoid it happening again.

They called for sand bags but it was already to late the BBC was drenched. The stream keep going for at least 45 mins after the storm.

You would think since this has happened so many times in the past that changes would have been made.

South street also flooded out again too, This time The police blocked the road, Of course motorist think they can travel through the towns parking lot but they end up in the mess again.

Technically you have a 4 points to block off, you just cant have one patrol car at the top of the hill at Hillside and Elm, you must close Union at South and the entrance/exit at the town office building.

Getting that stream under control would alleviate the flooding on South street our at least slow it down
