Australian Senate defeats cap and trade legislation
The Australian parliament has rejected government plans to introduce an ambitious carbon trading scheme to tackle global warming. The measure was the centrepiece of the government's environment plans, and would have cut greenhouse gas emissions by 5% over the next 10 years. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news... |

1 Language fixes nothing, only actions fix problems. The UN talks the talk, but is unable to walk the walk, that's why millions around the world are starving to death, dying from drinking bad water, AIDS etc. Northie, how is it that someone like you, who is so concerned, isn't out there in the field, helping to save the world you sit there worrying so much about? |

1 We KNOW what the problem is. The entire, global scientific establishment is agreed on that. The need is to persuade more people to pay attention to them. It IS about talk and language. |

2 Yeah, man, it's all a conspiracy to breed confusion among the already confused, division among the already divided, ignorance and apathy among the already ignorant and apathetic. I'm sure you'll get a long way with talk and language to persuade the confused, divided, ignorant and apathetic. What's your batting average to date? Check the polls, it's not looking good. |

2 Your source is the bogus "Petition Project" organized by the energy industry through Sen. Inhofe and his main monkey Marc Morano. When checked, most of the "scientists" on the list turned out to be non-scientists, scientists in unrelated disciplines or scientists who were unaware they were on the list at all and immediately objected. In other words, it is a complete fabrication. Not surprising. Morano is a right wing hitter-for-hire. After manufacturing the Swift Boat smear of Democratic Presidential nominee John Kerry, he went to work for Rush Limbaugh for years...before he found his true calling as a scientific authority on climate change who just happens to be on the oil/coal industry payroll. 1 As currently crafted, with carbon credits simply given away to major polluters, cap and trade won't change a thing. A straightforward carbon tax is inevitable; we'd be wiser to impose a small one sooner rather than a much larger one later. |

1 Not in favor of a cap and trade or a straight carbon tax. If it is a case of choosing the lesser of two evils, the straight tax will do less harm than a cap and trade scheme. |

"Incalculable suffering" is expensive. No effective climate accord is possible without China and India, yet China and India will agree to cut emissions only if the West commits to large cuts in the very near term. That means carbon taxes in the West, because cap-and-trade is too easy to game. However, the cost of the tax will be trivial compared to the cost of climate destruction. I just hope we become wise enough to see that in time. |

1 Good research! Did you know that Arrhenius, the inventor of AGW theory, was big into the eugenics movement? We need real science, experimental tests and not wacko plans for never tried, never tested radically different climate change mitigation policy. |

"Traffic Jam" Lyrics Damn This traffic jam, How I hate To be late. It hurts my motor to go so slow. Damn This traffic jam, Time I get home my supper'll be cold. Damn This traffic jam. Well, I left my job about 5 o'clock, It took 15 minutes go three blocks— Just in time to stand in line, With the freeway looking like a parking lot. {Repeat Chorus} Now, I almost had a heart attack— Looking in my rear view mirror. I saw myself the next car back, Looking in the rear view mirror, 'Bout to have a heart attack. I said ... {Repeat Chorus} Now, when I die I don't want no coffin; I've thought about it all too often. Just strap me in behind the wheel And bury me with my automobile. {Repeat Chorus} Now, I used to think that I was cool, Running around on fossil fuel. Until I saw what I was doing— Was driving down the road to ruin. Artist: James Taylor Album: JT ;) |

1 Where to get more compression of air is as simple as studying the geothermal pressures of the Earth where it is massively produced in abundence and 'tap into them'.( he, he, he) Also, take along a solar panel and modest compressor for cross country cruising. ;) Ladies and Gentleman, I present the solution to carbon pollution. 1 "Incalculable human suffering" has been happening for thousands of years and will continue to happen until mankind becomes extinct. A, "climate deal" will help no one. |
