You fail to mention that the earth was a lot hotter at that time. I don't think you want to live under conditions like that. The PO is irresponsible for printing this letter since it is stated as fact rather than the opinion that it is.

Don't let the LTEs upset you--they're just what someone thinks and believes to be true. Americans will suffer if the loons in Congress legislate the "Cap & Trade" tax that affects all Americans who use energy.

The human race is pumping about 80 million barrels of oil a day. About half of the oil is changed into gasoline. One barrel contains 42 gallon. Or 40,000,000 bbls.X 42 gal/bbl.=1,680,000,000 gallons of gasoline per day.
1,600,000,000 gallons of gasoline are burned per day and each gallon produces 20 pounds of CO2. This is approximately 33,600,000,000. pounds of C02 produced per day. It took millions of years to produce the oil that we are consuming in one day. We know that C02 is a heat trapping gas.
These figures can be checked at any Chemistry Dept at any College or University

Yall need to check out "cap and Trade" specifically the energy section. I hope none of you are planning to try and sell an existing home, because you will have to do an energy audit,and replace windows dooors and upgrade insulation, or just not sell.

We currently use 7.6 billion bbls a year in the U.S.

Like Shale Oil, it might be there but there isn't the technology to get it. With Shale oil, you have to heat the rocks to over 1100 degrees to get the oil-like substance to flow from the rocks.

Face it, the planet is running out of oil. The US is sitting on 190 billion barrels of recoverable oil. If we didn't import any oil, 25 years and it is gone. Costs will just go up as time goes on. Oil is not cheap and won't be cheap in the future.
