Ron Duncan, Go Green, Nov. 14, 2009: Do we still need to conser...

Full story: Santa Cruz Sentinel

From May through October of this year, most local water agencies asked customers curtail their water use by 15 percent about 10 gallons per person per day.

"Thus, drought conditions slowly exacerbate the overdraft condition...", Wrote Mr. Duncan.

However, purposefully overpumping SqCWD's shared aquifer w/ PVWMA, the Aromas Red Sands, by 200% annually and chronically for decades to grow and export 25% of this country's berries grown in Pajaro "works" much more quickly and "better" to quickly and PERMANENTLY destroys this aquifer!(15,000 acre feet of water supply exported annually....equivalent to building SEVEN new $100 million desal plants operating 24/7 EACH YEAR!)
...and that's exactly what these do nothing, incompetent and prevaricating agencies, SqCWD and PVWMA HAVE SUCCESSFULLY DONE! Period.

Now, rather than addressing the real problem of overdraft, they want to build a $100 million desal plant and send you the bill...and lie to you about it to keep their jobs.

Read these links for the particulars...

SqCWD and PVWMA are disasterous failures whose intentional negligence, incompetence, and mismanagement have permanently decimated our ground water supplies and allowed them to be stolen and exported in berry product by the Farm Bureau and Friends.

If we don't stop this desal plant, terminate and merge these districts, and eliminate the inside control of our water by the Farm Bureau and Friends, there will be none left....drained dry, Folks...then you can just build and pay for more desal plants or what?

Wake up, open your eyes, and figure it out...or pay and be happy with your 70 gallon per day water ration...

Folks, this is ridiculous...
(FYI...15+ year SqCWD GM Ms. Laura Brown, after all, IS married to the 30+ year GM of the Farm Bureau....who appoints 3 members of the 7 member PVWMA Board...you all knew/realize that, of course?

Please remind me...
GM Ms. Brown's qualifications to be GM of the county's second biggest water district (after her stint as asst. city manger of SC) are WHAT?(btw)...

That prettty much sums it up, Folks?

Anyone know what the Boardwalk pumps into San Lorenzo River on a daily basis? It looks like water but is there anything else in there? It comes out on the Beach side of the Boardwalk and also along the river just up from the trestle bridge.

I had no idea about Ms. Brown, sounds fishy to me. The depletion of aquifers across the country spells nothing but trouble for future generations. We have been the blue planet, what color will we be when all the water is gone?

What SqCWD tell us...
"Even though most people are already implementing conservation measures, the aquifers are in a state of "overdraft" -- which means more water is being pumped out than can be sustained over the long term."

What SqCWD DOESN'T tell us...

...and the chronic multi decades of 200% overdraft of SqCWD's and Pajaro's shared Aromas Red Sands aquifer has permanently pumped down this basin so 88% of this groundwater basin IS PERMANENTLY BELOW SEA LEVEL ALL YEAR LONG!

This means that the Pacific Ocean is now constantly refilling and "recharging" our ground water basin with it's salt water ALL YEAR LONG AND NOW PERMANENTLY!

DO YOU GET IT YET?

IN OTHER WORDS, THE LONGER WE WAIT TO ADDRESS AND CONTINUE 200% OVERDRAFT, THE FASTER AND MORE COMPLETELY WILL OUR AQUIFER REFILL WITH THE PACIFIC OCEAN.

It's groundwater/river water that is filling up the area under the boardwalk...Unfortunately, they were allowed to build in an area that is normally estuary half of the year, so they are constantly battling the river.

I purposefully and intentionally use very strong and direct language in the comments I make.

Everything I communicate in my comments I do to inform our community about the grave multi decades old situation regarding our water supply...

AND I document my claims and assertions with solid evidence that you can assess for yourself. You should and very quickly...

building the desal plant is the equivalent to crossing our water "Rubicon"...

and admitting that we have lost.

"Although a decrease in rainfall often does not immediately affect the groundwater aquifers, it does eventually result in a decrease of recharge to the aquifers." Ron Duncan

This statement is an over-generalization and is not applicable to Soquel Creek Water by their own published statement.

Section 3
Existing Groundwater Conditions

Precipitation in the Soquel-Aptos area ranges between 25 and 45 inches per year (Geomatrix, 1999).

Johnson et. Al (2004) states that approximately 15 percent of the rain that falls in the Soquel-Aptos watershed infiltrates the ground and becomes groundwater. The rest flows overland into streams or storm drains, is absorbed by plants, or evaporates.

Given the nature of groundwater recharge in the Soquel-Aptos area, cycles of droughts and above-normal precipitation do not appear to have had a short-term effect on deep, municipal groundwater wells.

Soquel Creek Water District & Central Water District Pages 10-11
Groundwater Management Plan – 2007

ALLOW ME TO REITERATE FOR THEM: cycles of droughts and above-normal precipitation do not appear to have had a short-term effect on deep, municipal groundwater wells

This report is available for you to read at:
soquelcreekwater.com

SOQUEL CREEK WATER KNOWS YOU MUST REMAIN FEARFUL OR YOU'LL NEVER APPROVE THE DESAL PRICE AND ITS ENVIRONMENTAL COSTS!

SOQUEL CREEK PUMPED MUCH HIGHER VOLUMES OF WATER DURING THE 6-YEAR DROUGHT THAN THEY CURRENTLY DO...ZERO RATIONING.

THE ONLY REAL SALT FEARS THEN WERE FROM SANTA CRUZ WATER OVER-PUMPING AT THEIR PLEASURE POINT WELLS.

Just not info they want the public (that pays the bills) to know.

When 85% of your rain disappears each year, and you admit it, you must work overtime to make and to keep the public fearful.

Previous investigations have reached different conclusions regarding the location of groundwater recharge to the Purisima Formation. Santa Cruz County has mapped groundwater recharge areas based on an assumption that most recharge occurs where streams cross the outcrop areas of individual Purisima aquifers (See Figure 5-3).

Johnson and others (2004) noted that streams in
the area are almost all gaining streams and that groundwater hydrographs suggest a diffuse movement of water from shallow and upland areas to deeper zones in the coastal plain that are tapped by water supply wells.

Additional analysis is needed to determine the relative importance of these two recharge mechanisms and the appropriate geographic extent of recharge quality protection measures.

Soquel Creek Water District & Central Water District Page Page75
Groundwater Management Plan - 2007

dh -THIS AREA MAPPED BY THE COUNTY IS IN THE HILLS WHERE SOQUEL CREEK WATER HAS !!NEVER!! PROPOSED ANY METHOD OF CAPTURING STORM-WATER AND REGENERATING our AQUIFER WITH IT.

BTW, SOQUEL WATER NEVER DID THE "Additional analysis" TO UNDERSTAND THE AQUIFER, THEY ALSO FAILED TO RENEW THAT CONSULTANT'S CONTRACT.

ONE OF JOHNSON'S OTHER REPORTS TO HIS EMPLOYER, SOQUEL CREEK WATER, STATES OVER AND OVER HOW USEFUL IT WOULD BE TO HAVE RESEARCHED A WORKING MODEL OF THE AQUIFER...Johnson had to GO!!!

TO DATE SOQUEL CREEK HAS SPENT ABOUT $3 MILLION ON DESAL STUDIES WITH THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA AND SANTA CRUZ WATER KICKING IN SIMILAR AMOUNTS.

SAD WASTE OF your MONEY...

I think its a great idea to use millions of watts of carbon generated electricity to disassociate sodium chloride from seawater. Its also a wonderful idea to use millions more watts of carbon generated electricity to pump that water uphill to storage facilities so that gravity can distribute it to the end users.

I own stock in energy companies, carbon credit companies and I buy long term general obligation bonds from municipalities and the State for tax free high rates of return.

Did I mention what a great idea I think ocean desalination is?
Oh sure

Sure, go ahead and conserve water. Then Soquel Creek will increase your rates because there is less water consumed. This is crazy. I've gone back to using. If I have to pay....so what!

They tell us to use less water because it's a valuable resource. Then they say they need to raise rates because they don't make enough money (sell enough product). Have you ever heard of Water Co Reps being at a city council meeting to say something should'nt be build because there is not enough water? Their biggest profit is made from charging for a meter with little or no use of water. It's just a big scam.

...and all you ratepayors keep on paying and paying more and more for these impostors. Wait until the desal plant starts construction and comes online, talk about rate increases! You have a chance to stop this now...
and you will be real sorry if you don't!
Look at the results of "management" of SQCWD AND PVWMA...
the only aspects of these agencies that are up to "par" (ie "parity") are the unjustified and unearned hugre salaries, perks, plans, pensions, and paid junkets for self congratulation of the top administration, boards, attorneys, and consultants you are all paying multi millions and so grandly for.
What about the water?....
Sorry, that's history, Folks. They blew the entire basin and allowed it to be pumped out...on your dime.

Doug-
You post at these forums but never do you talk to or interact with people about your concerns unless you dominate. I am talking about the fact that you threaten, yell, and intimidate people. It's true, many people are frightened of you physically.

Please think about your role in life, and the fact that you are a large man, and a bully. You are also very wealthy and have a hard time relating to those who are not in your league.

Hi Doug-

That's very cute, calling yourself Bigbub. By the way, photos of damage in the north pacific gyre can be found at algalita.org . When will you get a job, by the way?
