I have many friends and some family in Amsterdam, and most are posting that a tornado touched down near Cranesville Block... Not verified. Power still out in many areas.

I can tell you from personal experience, there was most definitely a tornado that passed south of the intersection of Cranesville Hollow Road and Rt. 5 (about 5 miles east of Amsterdam). I sped up while driving east on Rt 5 trying to outrun the tornado. The wind was blowing from Northeast to Southwest across Rt. 5 and then suddenly changed directions and blew from Southwest to Northeast. Just as the wind changed direction, the trees on the South side of Rt 5, about 1/4 mile east of Cranesville Hollow Road, started crashing down on the road like dominos as I passed under them. I steered as far to the left side of the road as I could and I could hear and feel the tops of the trees hitting the roof of my Ford Explorer as I kept going. I wound up in a ditch in the median between the Eastbound and Westbound lane (directly across from the Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department Building). What I experienced was the perimeter of the tornado with mostly straight line winds. There was some evidence of the tops of trees twisted off and other trees just blown over where I came to a stop. While I was waiting for the AAA tow truck I walked back to the corner of Cranesville Hollow Road (across from Valentino's Restaurant) and I saw the evidence of tornado damage to the trees South of Rt 5 across the RR tracks and to the Mohawk River. The large trees were twisted like pretzels and the top 2/3 of the trees were mostly ripped off (not blown over in one direction). I have seen tornado damage to heavily treed areas before and this looked the same. I feel that G-d was kind to me on this day because I did good deeds/ charitable work this morning.

Absolutely horrifying. The video, that is. Upstate is definitely no stranger to tornadoes, but to actually see one in action up here is an entirely different story.

Between 5:45 & 6:15 during a storm in Herkimer I saw a trailing "tail" coming from a very dark cloud formation. My first thought was tornado. I wonder if anyone else caught it?

And no...I don't live in Schenectady. I live in the Town of Amsterdam, on Cranes Hollow Road. I really don't have a clue why my location is coming up as Schenectady...lol
