i live in the village and my thought is....do not waste my tax dollars on this siren. inman...i didn't give you my vote and i cretainly never would if you continue to want to spend dollars where it is not needed.

would you feel the same if a siren possibly saved you or one you care about. I understand money can be spent in other ways but if were not around or our future generations..........whats it matter?

What is there to debate!?
It can save your butt in a severe storm for a measly $30.000.00 you and your families life not worth 30 thousand?! The lives of my three girls and wife are worth more than any money in the world. The kids don't have that choice to make this choice to protect them that is our job at any price. |

well if you're worth soo much...if there is severe weather you should probably get them in the basement. im sorry but a siren will not help your house from getting mowed down by a tornado. just sayin. me? im worth the 6k i have in the bank. thats it. |
|
Common, this is a no brainer. I can't believe these residents aren't DEMANDING a siren be put in at once.$30,000 comes out to what,$1 per year per taxpayer? For a dsevice that can save your life. Easy call.

Sooo Mr Flyrite07 how are you going to know that tornado is heading your way to get in the basement? With every little T-storm, do you head to the basement? I never said a siren would prevent disaster just possibly preventing death!
Still what is there to debate with a life saving device? |

30K. im sure they will have to layoff a city employee to do that. they have a damn siren that works so why get a new one? oh because some lazy ass cannot turn the handle to sound the horn?

How about 1000 weather radios at $30.00 a piece? That should pretty much cover every home, business, and school in the village of Caledonia and most of the township......

Ok so ONE person loses a job of 30k, I hate to see it yes! BUT this 30k would be a one time thing not 30k every year it would cost to keep the person employed to sit on his ass to flip a switch. Think about it man!! |

i assume the guy that does it now gets paid. plus we never get anything cool like a tornado. if we do i hope it goes right thru caledonia.

I completely agree with you. I think it should be mandatory for every town, village, city to have a siren. Come on get with the times. Forget about the 30k. It's a small price to pay. |

It sounds like a good idea, but the cold hard reality is that in the middle of the night during a storm, you won't hear the siren unless it's less than 1/2 mile from your house.
They test the sirens in Cascade on the first Friday of each month. Unless you are outside and paying attention, you can't really hear them. I know for certain I can't hear them in my office. I can hear them if I am outside in the driveway an nobody is mowing their lawn. While the use of these sirens is widespread, I don't think they are the best available solution. I know I wouldn't' be comfortable with my family depending on one during a storm. IMHO a weather radio is a better choice for a family. It would also be nice if you could get text messages from the NWS, like I get from WOODTV when they close the schools. People should use some skepticism when they are asked to spend money on something just because "it's for safety". Often times everyone want so spend until they feel safe, and sales people are more than willing to oblige. Some of these things come with a hefty price tag, and only provide a facade of safety. Is a siren really the best available solution? |
