1 That is correct-there is a possibility but not proven-its a theory. Just like global warming is a possibility but not proven-its a theory. You struggle between fact and theories and the asoociatedd definitions. You must like being a little pregnant. Either you are or you are not. |

1 You have the square peg round hole thing going on- If you say its a fact, you need to finish with a fact. Facts are truths, theories are basically a guess until proven otherwise. |

Wrong. A scientific theory is absolutely NOT a guess. In science, one begins with an hypothesis, tests it rigorously and either falsifies or supports it. After a long period of support, such an hypothesis is termed a theory, implying an overarching complex of intertwined well-supported hypotheses. In other words, a scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation, as described in the first definition in Webster’s II,“systematically organized knowledge applicable in a relatively wide variety of circumstances.” A good example is “atomic theory,” which refers to the firmly established structure, properties and behavior of the atom. Although atomic theory is at least as factually based as the location of Paris, it is still referred to as a theory. |

Nothing in science is considered "proven"; however, an hypothesis does not attain the status of a theory unless it has been tested over and over again, and no evidence has been uncovered which would tend to disprove it. Gravity is a theory as well as a fact; even so, it is not considered "proven" because some day, somewhere, an apple might detach itself from a branch and float upward. |

1 dummie-this is not hard. if its not proven, then its a theory. Try this; The world was once considered in theory to be flat. It is now a fact that its round. What is your educational background??? |

Wrong. The idea that the earth was flat was never a scientific theory - that idea predated modern science and the scientific method. My educational background: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts, Master of Science, and, so far, all but the dissertation toward a PhD. And those degrees are from quality institutions, like Smith College, Cornell University, Indiana University and Columbia University. What's your educational background? |

1 Dumdum- The earth being flat was once a theory-give it up you moron. The word "theory" has been used well before Columbus you idiot. No different now that global warming is man made based on CO2. |

1 Sigh. As I have explained over and over and over again, there are two different meanings for the word "theory"; only one of those definitions applies to the scientific method, which did not exist before the era of modern science. As for the name calling, as usual, it does nothing to advance your argument. |

1 You can have all the defintions you want about theories-it does not equate to science or the main component of science which is fact. 2+2=4 is a fact. |
