Does the Bureau of Land Mismanagement really think that the American people are so stupid as to think that 33,000 or as some estimates say only 13,500 horses are doing damage to the range when they are outnumbered by domestic livestock 200 to 1. Come on America tell the BLM we see through their lies.

The BLM is incompetent and has proven that by their absurd idea to hold 30,000+ wild horses in pens with no plan for their future. Of course, years later now they have a plan and that is to kill them.

How about this, BLM: Remove the 6 million cattle grazing on Federal lands that "we the people" pay for and return the 30,000+ wild horses back to their natural habitat. Why am I subsidizing the rancher's business?

The BLM needs to be fired - now!

Leave the wild horses alone; they haven't needed management in thousands of years, but somehow you think they do now. Go away!

Re the above comment from the Canadians: "They [the wild horses] were meant to bring companionship to people...." That's one way to look at it. But the free-roaming horses are enjoying their families and their freedom just as much as the tame horses enjoy companioning with caring, responsible human beings. So let's allow them the right to just BE in their home, left in peace!!!(Granted, adopting and taming them with love is preferable to rounding and penning them up, much less to hatefully killing them.)

As for the ranchers pretending to be worried about horses dying on the range, it sounds like the excuse they use to send all "unwanted" horses to slaughter: to ward off the possibility of their being left to starve in fields. Such nonsense. Same ole forked tongues talking.

Deanne Stillman's new book "Mustang: The Saga of the Wild Horse in the American West" removes any doubt that the horses DO belong on our public lands and that they ARE being slowly wiped out by greedy grim reapers -- those monopolizing ranchers and hunters who put monetary gains and selfish pursuits (kill, kill, kill is the name of their game) ahead of the well-being of innocent wild horses and burros.

These wild ones who roam the hills bring profit and pleasure to our very souls; they show us what true freedom looks, feels and tastes like. Their freedom, like ours, disappears when we humans refuse to use our God-given qualities of self-restraint, moral courage, and brotherly kindness toward all.

Life isn't meant to be about competing with and preying upon one another. Real life shines forth when we look out for one another's best interests and learn to live peacefully side by side with all God's creatures (human and nonhuman).

We are made to be "very good," so let's start acting like it!

The BLM has created its own financial problems by subsidizing the corporate ranchers and neglecting to do what they were entrusted to do. The BLM has promoted the slaughter of domestic and now the wild horses/burros in this country going to such lengths as to circumvent an act of Congress to outlaw the horse slaughter industry. The BLM has lied to the public about the actual numbers of mustangs/burros that they hold in captivity from the so-called roundups as well as the numbers of horses actually in the wild that have not been captured again. I stand to accuse the BLM of genocide of these animals and of manipulating the system to destroy all that it was entrusted to care for and all for the good ole boys network (the greedy welfare ranchers who want all of the public lands to themselves). It's high time that someone stepped in and cleaned house on the BLM as it has the smell of an outhouse or maybe a feedlot. The answer to the financial problem (budget cuts) is to release these animals back into the wild or let the ranchers support the mustangs/burros for the remainder of their lives. Mass murder and /or slaughter is not the answer to this issue. Removing all the corruption is though.

Our wild horses are a symbol of American Freedom; our National Heritage. They are icons of the American West.If the Bureau of Land Management, as they say, can't afford to take care of these thousands of horses in the holding facilities then release them and put them back on the range where they belong. They should never have been rounded up in the first place. If they must control the population then geld a percentage of the colts/stallions but let them be wild and free; grazing lush grass with plenty of clean fresh water. The BLM has humane solutions and they should use them. I can't understand how they can say that there is an overpopulation of horses when there were approximately 2 million horses on our public lands in the early 1900's. Now, what is there, aproximately 13,500 in the wild and aproximately 30,000 in the holding facilities. Sounds to me like the overpopulation is with the 6 million head of cattle which are pushing our beloved horses off the land. Release the horses and put them back on the range where they belong. They were there first.

Seems a shame when gentle, domesticated yearlings cannot find homes while people try to gentle these born-to-be raunchy wild things.
Better they become a source of food for people &/or Pets. They need a connection with Alpo. I totally agree that they should be slaughtered (and I LOVE horses!)

I remember seeing some wild horses in Wyoming and thinking they looked rather scrawny. Seems something does need to be done to help them.

I can't understand why the BLM is considering killing
approximately 30,000 horses that are being held in holding facilities when they have humane solutions.
These horses should be released and put back in the wild where they came from. If the BLM must control their populations then geld a percantage of the colts/stallions before they are released. There are veterinary residents that may perform this process at no charge. These horses should not have been rounded up in the first place. How can the BLM say that we have an overpopulation of horses when we had two million of these animals on our public lands in the early 1900's. We the taxpayers are paying for all this killing of horses, burros, bison, elk,
bears, wolves, mountain lions, prairie dogs, etc, etc. Stop murdering our wildlife. This horrific cruelty to animals is a disgrace to our Nation.
