Stephens and Liesure are idiots. I understand that they weren't on the school board when the 32 million dollar barn was built but it's fall where it's been only 70 one time and AC shouldn't be running. You shouldn't be having issues were one class room is freezing and anther is hot.

You have a HVAC issue no need for excerise (you already aren't teaching them anthing other then test taking); and to tell a student "welcome to the real world"... In the real world you can close vents, you the heat up or down, open a window.

I was at the old high school and 2 of the 3 k-6's(back when all 3 were k-6). There wasn't a fluctuation in temps, just leaking roofs.

First of all, how laughable is the comment made by Leisure that students should be exercising in classes like the Chinese do! Did she really make this comment in a public board meeting? Does she even KNOW what happens in a school classroom?

But it appears that Ms. Stephens was downright rude to these students and staff members who took the time to share their concerns. To tell people "Welcome to the real world" is a real slap in the face and it shows that she does not have the best interest of the students in her mind. And then to read she cut off the student to tell him that just because she didn't have AC that he can live with it....I mean, how does someone like this get elected to a position like this? I hope that the voters of Annville-Cleona are starting to see what is happening to its school district under the guidance of individuals like this.

It's good to see that students are speaking up and taking their concerns directly to the school board, but what a shame that when they stand up and say what is wrong, they are treated so poorly.

Ms. Stephens in particular should be ashamed of herself.

Good old AC.... never a dull moment with the idiots they have on the Board. Maybe Gerber can re-live the old days when the colors where red and white. Stephens should be tossed out of office immediately. What a joke of a school board.

You are unfortunately correct, although it's very difficult to get quality board directors when the "pickings are slim." Stephens and Leisure both ran with a very clear-cut agenda (one that stems from the demolition of the old high school building), and they don't have an understanding that they are there to foster learning. By the comments in this article alone, it's clear that they need their own reality-check. I think that in less than 2 years when their term is up, people will be very wise to how incompetent they are in this role (as if that realization isn't already apparent).

Well, both Stephens and Leisure were out of line. Neither woman treated the students with respect, which I believe is a board policy. I would expect an apology from both of them for their degrading remarks. These students came to speak to the school board with a serious concern for their fellow classmates on the temperature of their learning environment. More level heads on the board were able to know this was a real issue and needed to be studied and corrected. WALDHAUSEN just made an excuse - "not my fault, it was a budget cut!" LEISURE: students have the state mandated physical exercise. Our kids are there to learn, not to spend all day exercising to keep warm. STEPHENS: in the "old days" we had large windows that could open, transoms and fans.

To Ms. Stephens...... when you were in school the School Board didn't spend $10,000 for a Superintendent search. They were smart enough to do it themselves. This Board is a disgrace.

Sounds like annville-cleona's school board, and what was ELCO's, could be one in the same. Both think too highly of themselves.

Are you serious? I am having a hard time beleiving that the quotes in this article could possibly be true! If it is true, it is comical! I feel the AC schoolboard, or possibly someone with a higher level of education, mandate emergency elections! This type of disrespect and incompetency is a true disgrace not only to the entire AC school district but to education in general! Where have we been hiding? It's time to act! Now! Before our children come through the AC system with the same level of incompetency!

it's clear to see that we should all be paying much more attention to local government, especially school boards. we need compentent members who will not only look after the student needs, but also - dare i say it - the burden those decissions have on taxpayers. local issues affect us all more directly than national politics and warrent the same attention.

Tom Tshudy for superintendent. I'm serious. He's palatable to the Gerber/Stephens wing nuts, because he opposed the Barn Project, yet he lives in the current century (or at least the 20th, which is one beyond Stephens). He's smart and level-headed, and his background is not in education -- another plus. Seriously.

If my student would have been talked to this way I would be furious. These students that went to the board are respected among their peers and among the teachers. I would like to assume they presented their remarks with respect. The response from the board members shows not only disrespect but also prejudice toward young people of our district. I am very proud of the students that I know in both of the grade levels that are represented in our household. I will continue to encourage my students to speak out for what they believe in. I will teach them to do so with respect to those they are speaking to regardless of how they are treated in return.

If we are using $10,000 to search for a new superintendent, may I suggest we look for one who has been taught the same manners that we are trying to raise our children to have???

This is too funny!! When I went to school, there was no air conditioning... that’s why we had off in the summer… I never had a problem wiping the sweat on my shirt sleeve between test questions on a warm fall or spring day….and it didn’t distract me. In the winter, my parents made sure I dressed appropriately…because it was winter…and in the winter...it’s cold. Parents worked with the teachers and school board… they didn’t complain about everything the school did as though their child was being picked on…. In fact…act up in school and you got your butt whooped…..and then when you got home, it was whooped again because you got in trouble in school…oops, I forgot, somewhere between 1970 and 1990 this became child abuse…silly me. We took our notes from a blackboard.... Oh that’s right, blackboards and whiteboards are a definite sign of racism…now they use chalk board or a dry erase board. Maybe the teachers should go on strike for better working conditions…because everyone knows no one suffers when teachers strike, especially not the children attending the schools. Here is a quote from a sometimes sweating, sometimes shivering, abused child racist that graduated from high school in the 70s
“Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional,
illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream
media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible
to pick up a turd by the clean end."
Now put on some warmer clothing, shut up and do your homework.

I totally agree. What kind of example did this bunch of losers project to the students, teachers and taxpayers of the district. We are paying taxes and thus are their boss. They should give us answers immediately. Stephens should resign at the next meeting... assuming she has any self respect whatsoever.
